Abstract

The fermentation of cocoa beans is an important part of cocoa processing. Fermentation of cocoa beans increases the quality and price of the beans and the resultant cocoa. Although the fermentation of cocoa beans can increase the quality and income of cocoa farming, few farmers in Indonesia implement this fermentation process. This research therefore, focuses on the way Indonesian farmers assess whether or not to ferment their cocoa beans. A total of 284 cocoa farmers were sampled in Central Sulawesi Indonesia. The results showed that out of the more than 50% of farmers who did not ferment their cocoa beans, a majority were simply not interested in increasing the quality of the resultant cocoa. The quality of cocoa beans produced from smallholder plantations, therefore, was continually poor. The decision of cocoa farmers to ferment their cocoa beans, meanwhile, was significantly affected by the gender, age and education level of the head of the household, the number of productive family members, the quantity of cocoa bean production, and the resultant price of the fermented cocoa beans in the market. The resultant price of the fermented cocoa was the most dominant factor.

Abstract

The keen research objective is to develop a quality system in the Supply Chain Management geared to the agribusiness sector. The Supply Chain Quality Management (SCQM) proposed for blueberry companies must improve their operational performance. This study includes micro and small agricultural enterprises located in the Caete region of Peru, where thanks to the interviews and questionnaires, it was possible to determine the critical practices, which will be applied in the agribusiness sector. An important point of this research is the literature review found to enrich the methodical procedures that are the most important practices of the innovative SCQM model. The research shows that the critical practices to develop the quality management in this sector are Customer Relationship Management, Supplier Relationship Management, Process Management and Human Resources Management. These correctly designed and implemented practices will lead to operational improvement and other qualitative advantages. This research turns out to be completely innovative because the use of the recently proposed technique of Quality Management into the Supply Chain combined with the best practices will be very useful knowledge to the agribusiness sector. The implementation and development of quality systems for the main practices of SCQM is a differentiating factor that is rare to find in similar research. On the other hand, the development of the Peruvian case study focused on the blueberry industry provides great practical value to supply chain operations management of quality. Finally, the knowledge embedded in SCQM applied to small blueberry companies in an emerging country can provideadded value to management to increase the competitiveness of the agribusiness sector.

Abstract

The assessment of the success of organizations throughout history has been done using performance metrics. Performance measurement quantifies effectiveness and efficiency of action using metrics. Proper selection of key performance variables allows for major consideration in improvement, problem identification, and gauging performance against plans, norms, or best practices, and so giving directions for improvement plans. The concept paper predicts that supply chain management is practical in developing economies and to improves performance of organizations in the chain. Furthermore, it hopes to help firms that embraced supply chain management to used balanced sets of measures coupled with appropriate performance measurement practices (PMP) to increase performance results. Additionally, the proposed framework will be useful in any environment as it resulted from the synthesis of past literatures and studies. This study is one of the first to identify and discuss conceptually the relationship between performance measurement practices and overall firm performance.

Abstract

Education plays a major role in the progress and development of any country and it helps raise equal opportunities and develop human resources. Education in Iraq suffers from many problems, including a lack of technology, school buildings, and school facilities, and a lack of training for principals and teachers. It is the responsibility of the ministry of education to tackle this situation and it can only possible when authority maintains its relationship with institutions. The supply chain is a flow of material, information, and finance. The ministry of education has to convey the material, information, and finance to the high school for their operations. After through literature review, it has been revealed that there is the significant relationship between TQM factors and performance. This study examines the application of TQM in the supply chain of schools. Therefore, the Iraq government is working to improve the quality of the flow of information, material, and finance in schools through the implementation of TQM. A number of previous studies have focused on the importance of implementing TQM in Iraqi schools for continuous improvement and eliminating the problems facing education. The aim of this study is to highlight the problem and propose a framework on the effects of TQM on performance. This framework needs empirical verification so for future study the data will be collected from the management of Iraqi schools. Base on literature review authors proposed framework of TQM. Habitually, it will assist high schools in improving their practices TQM.

Abstract

One of the most critical issues of inventory management is Customer demand (intermittent demand, request for change in product, process or phase in / out). Variation in demand increases the difficulty of determining the precise amount of inventory both to avoid stockout and to satisfy the customer fill rate. The inventory control problem is getting complicated by the fact that demand is uncertain or the variation of demand is highly volatile. [1]. Many practical systems such as manufacturing and inventory systems applications are mostly used to model categorical data sequences. [2]. Results indicate that firms that focus on flexibility, quality, and delivery should develop strategic collaboration with suppliers & customers to achieve market and innovation improvement. Cost- and quality-focused firms should develop operational collaboration to achieve resource efficiency. The model allows understanding the right alignment of external suppliers and customers being pursued to for key performance development and continuous improvement insight.

Abstract

Outbound tourism primarily concerns air travel due to the limited options for transportation. Many studies related to aviation and tourism have been conducted. However, most studies are in the US and European context, with only a few cases having been studied in Asia. The purpose of this research is to focus on the development of Low-Cost carriers (LCCs) in major Asian nations. Particularly, it aims to study the influence of LCCs on Thailands tourism. To investigate if LCCs contribute to an increase in Thailands tourism demand, multiple regression analysis with key indicators is employed using monthly data from January 2013 to December 2017. The findings reveal that LCCs have a positive impact on Thailands tourism. Furthermore, LCCs are the main factor in Thailands tourism demand. It is necessary to consider the future development of LCCs and whether LCCs can play an important role in the tourism supply chain in the future.

Abstract

Accountability has long been the major focus of government-linked companies (GLCs) as these firms are directly accountable to the taxpayers. While studies examining accountability of GLCs are widely available, very little evidence exist in investigating how these GLCs achieve accountability through supply chain management (SCM). Thus, the aim of the present research is to gain insights into how SCM practices create value to the firm, which in turn enhance accountability of the GLCs towards its ultimate stakeholders. A single case study approach was used whereby key research issues were mainly addressed through semi-structured interviews, observations and document reviews. Findings revealed that, consistent with the financial and social obligations of the GLC to its stakeholders, the firm was able to create value through supplier involvement, strategic supplier relationship and supplier development practices. The findings provide valuable input for similar companies to emulate these practices in order to achieve accountability through SCM practices.
