Abstract

This study examined the role of hardiness, friendship quality, and loneliness on first-year college students. 333 participants completed three scales: hardiness scale, friendship quality scale, and loneliness scale. A multiple linear regression test was used with hardiness and friendship quality as an independent variable and loneliness as a dependent variable. The result showed that hardiness and friendship quality simultaneously were significant predictors of loneliness (F = 101,03; p <,001). Loneliness variance was explained by both hardiness and friendship quality of 38% (R2 =,38). When given separately, hardiness was significant predictor to loneliness with variance explained of 26,22% (R2 = ,2622 ; p < ,001) and friendship quality was significant predictor to loneliness with variance explained of 11,25% (R2 = ,1125 ; p < ,001). It can be concluded that improving the hardiness and friendship quality of the first-year college students will lead them to reduce loneliness.

Abstract

Ruqyah Syar'iyyah is an Islamic healing that uses recitation of the holy Koran, dhikr and prayers. Diseases that can be cured through ruqyah syar'iyyah with the permission of Allah are physical and mental illnesses or physical and spiritual diseases, in other terms are physical or psychological illnesses. The basis for this Islamic healing is found in the Koran and the hadiths of the prophet. Even though there is a basis, the attitude of the Muslims towards ruqyah is divided into three parts, namely ifrath, tafrith and mu'tadil. For patients who suffer from the law, asking for meruqyah is only permissible, while peruqyah for circumcision is to help people who ask for help. The scholars agree that the use of this ruqyah with the holy Koran verses and believe that humans are only as intermediaries, the problem of healing is the permission of Allah SWT. Rasulullah practiced three types of divine medicine, namely Ruqyah Sayar'iyyah, Thabi'iyyah and Al-Jam'u baina huma. These three are summarized in a system called Thibbun Nabawi. This Ruqyah with Allah's permission makes a sick person become healthy, or a person who was originally unconscious becomes conscious. In the past, in our area it was known as batatamba, which is to treat illnesses to healers who use the holy Koran, dhikr and prayers. Now the term ruqyah syar'iyyah is popular. Nowadays, ruqyah is practiced or practiced on TV, Youtobe and in certain places that provide official medical treatment. Apart from ruqyah for sick people, there are also people who are healthy, conscious and suspect that they have jinn, so they ask for diruqyah. In the end, he was unconscious as if he was possessed by spirits, and some even vomited and urinated after being recited by the peruqyah recitation of the ruqyah. This situation collides with the aim of ruqyah which is to heal a sick person or awaken an unconscious person. Not a person who is conscious of being forced to become unconscious (a kind of trance). If he died at this time, of course he would forget Allah.

There is ‘haulan’ tradition in every 14 of Sha’ban, at that time HA is busy to communicate to the STT’s spirit, showing his encounter with the spirit of the dead in ‘conscious’ condition. According to al-Jauzi, the alive people can meet the spirit of the dead through dreams/ conscious based on the al-Zumar verse 42. It said that death is not lost but it is the separation of the body with the spirit. Their meeting is based on Ali ‘Imron verse 169-171 when he gets the blessing from Allah and when his brother who livedin the path of His. This is recognized by the Sufism as Liqa Barzakhi, as experienced by al-Tijani, it is out of ratio range. Abstract

This article is aimed at analyzing critically George Caspar Homans’s theory of exchange. The critical analysis that may be called here simply as “maping ideology” embodied in theory is needed to place the theory within the specific social and political condition, intellectual background, school of thought having great influence on it, and so forth, and also to assesses its limitedness as a theoretical frame-work of scientific research to explain complicated social phenomenon or human interaction. Influenced by psychological and economic theories, Homans’s theory of exchange has been intended at the beginning by the author as attack against Marxism domination that addressed criticism to capitalism as macro-structure oppressing the proletariat by the ruling class and against Durkheimian structural functionalism. By addressing the attack against Marxism and because of his intellectual and social background, Homans’s theory then has been regarded as an explanation justifying the existing situation. Being attributed as psychological reductionism, as neglecting the important role of structure, and deterministic are some of the objections addressed to his theory.

Abstract

This article analyses some prophetic sayings (hadith) considered misogenic, by comparing commentaries of the medieval ulama and the contemporary Muslim feminists in Indonesia. The first hadith is about woman leadership. Based on this hadith, many traditional ulama do not allow woman to be the leader. However, some medieval ulama such as Jalaluddin al-Sayuthi, al-Tabari and Abu Hanifah, do allow woman to become a leader. In line with this view, Indonesian Muslim feminists argue that woman deserves to be a leader like man, and the hadith should be understood in its specific context, namely that it talks about Persian Imperium which was led by a woman, so that it cannot be generalized. Morever, the hadith is ahad, reported by one line of transmitters. The second hadith is about God’s condemnation on a wife who refuses her husband for sexual intercourse. The traditional medieval ulama and Indonesian Muslim feminists agree that this hadith is also applied to man, that is, if he refuses his wife. Finally, the hadith stating that woman is less intelligent, according to the traditional ulama, means not to humiliate her, but to be aware of her temptation.
