Two decades or more, in the global scheme, Islamic studies have been enforced to take broader paradigms from dogmatic-theology to popular-religious. Islamic studies is not merely discussing on sacred corpus only, but everyday life of Islam also. In academic space, this field has increasingly been an intersection -if not a contestation- across disciplines, such as political science, anthropology, sociology, history, economics, media, and cultural studies.

Abstract

The revitalization of productive waqf assets remains a significant challenge in management of waqf at local level. This challenge is attributable to three: limited managerial capacity, low waqf literacy, and inadequate coordination among stakeholders. The objective of this study is to propose a multi-stakeholder synergy model for revitalizing productive waqf at the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) in Lumajang Regency. A qualitative approach, employing a case study design, was utilized. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis involving BWI, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, waqf trustees (nazhir), Islamic financial institutions, and academics. The thematic analysis was guided by the model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The findings indicate that the regulatory and administrative foundations are relatively robust. However, they are not supported by sufficient technical capacity on the part of the nazhir to manage productive waqf. Islamic financial institutions play a pivotal role in financing innovation, particularly cash waqf, while academics contribute to strengthening literacy and management models. However, stakeholder collaboration remains limited and not yet systematically integrated into a collaborative framework. This study proposes an integrated multi-stakeholder synergy model at the local level to strengthen waqf governance and optimize waqf assets for community economic empowerment. The proposed model makes a significant contribution to the existing body of literature on waqf governance, offering a practical framework that can be adapted by other regional waqf institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the Islamic boarding school community (jama'ah) in building and maintaining business sustainability in Islamic boarding schools located in the Tapal Kuda region of East Java, namely Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School in Paiton, Salafiyah Syafi’iyyah Islamic Boarding School in Sukorejo, and Zainul Hasan Genggong Islamic Boarding School. Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) not only function as institutions of education and Islamic propagation (da'wah), but have also developed into centers of economic empowerment capable of supporting institutional self-reliance and improving the welfare of surrounding communities. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method in several Islamic boarding schools in the Tapal Kuda region. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and were subsequently analyzed using interactive analysis techniques, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the business sustainability of Islamic boarding schools is determined by the strength of their communities, which involve kiai (Islamic scholars), administrators, students, alumni, parents of students, and local communities within mutually supportive social networks. Social capital in the form of trust, Islamic values, charismatic leadership, and a culture of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) constitutes the primary factor in sustaining pesantren enterprises. Furthermore, business unit diversification, strengthening institutional governance, human resource development, and the utilization of alumni networks contribute significantly to the economic resilience of Islamic boarding schools. The business model developed is not solely oriented toward economic profit but also emphasizes social aspects and benefits for the wider community. These findings confirm that the integration of community strength and business strategies grounded in Islamic values is capable of creating institutional sustainability while enhancing the contribution of Islamic boarding schools to local economic development. This study provides a conceptual contribution to the community-based business sustainability model within Islamic educational institutions. In addition, Islamic boarding schools play an important role in creating employment opportunities and developing human resources who embody Islamic ethical values.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital technologies has transformed Islamic Religious Education by generating ethical challenges such as cyberbullying, misinformation, online hostility, declining empathy, and irresponsible digital behavior. While previous studies have examined Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah, local wisdom traditions, and digital ethics separately, their integration as a framework for digital learning ethics remains underexplored. This study aims to reconstruct digital learning ethics in Islamic Religious Education through the integration of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah and Huma Betang values. Employing a qualitative library research design, the study utilized thematic content analysis, comparative analysis, and hermeneutical interpretation. The corpus comprised 63 scholarly sources, including classical Islamic legal and maqāṣid texts, contemporary studies on Islamic ethics, research on Huma Betang philosophy, and empirical studies on digital ethics and Islamic education. The findings indicate that contemporary digital challenges cannot be adequately addressed through legal compliance alone. Although Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah and Huma Betang differ in their epistemological foundations, they converge in promoting justice, human dignity, compassion, collective welfare, cooperation, and social responsibility. The study proposes Cultural Maqāṣidization as a conceptual framework explaining how Islamic ethical objectives are translated into culturally grounded educational practices through local wisdom. This framework contributes to Islamic ethics, maqāṣid studies, and Islamic Religious Education by advancing a culturally mediated model of digital learning ethics that is both normatively grounded and contextually relevant.

Abstract

The Quarter-Life Crisis (QLC) is a crisis phase in early adulthood characterized by anxiety, uncertainty about the future, low self-confidence, and feelings of being left behind due to social comparison, particularly through social media. This condition is closely related to cognitive distortions that influence how individuals perceive themselves. This study aims to examine verses from the Qur’an that are relevant to Cognitive Restructuring techniques within the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach as a means of managing negative thought patterns in individuals experiencing a Quarter-Life Crisis. The study employs a library research method using a qualitative-descriptive approach and thematic interpretation analysis. The primary data source is the Qur’an, with the main references being Tafsir Al-Misbah by M. Quraish Shihab and Tafsir Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka, while secondary data sources come from psychology journals and research related to CBT as well as the phenomenon of social comparison. The analysis was conducted through theme identification, the collection of relevant verses, an examination of the verses’ meanings based on the commentaries, and the mapping of Qur’anic concepts to the principles of Cognitive Restructuring. The results of the study indicate that QS. An-Nisa’/4:32, QS. Ibrahim/14:7, and QS. At-Taubah/9:51 align with the principles of Cognitive Restructuring. QS. An-Nisa’/4:32 guides individuals to avoid social comparison and focus on their own efforts; QS. Ibrahim/14:7 instills a mindset of gratitude as a form of positive emotion regulation; while QS. At-Taubah/9:51 emphasizes the importance of tawakal as a form of acceptance of Allah’s decree after making one’s best effort. This study contributes by offering a conceptual framework for the integration of Qur’anic values and Cognitive Restructuring techniques in CBT to understand and address the phenomenon of QLC. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for the development of Qur’an-based counseling approaches and to open opportunities for empirical research to test the effectiveness of this integration among individuals experiencing QLC.
