Abstract

Puppetry or the shadow puppet performance has gone into a decrease in its  qualiry and .frequency. This transformation, of course, has positive and negative  impacts. The present puppetry has little chance of being a source of lift guidance for  the Javanese. Unlike puppetry in the past, puppetry as ordinary entertainment does  not take the balance between entertainment and guidance into consideration and is  market-oriented which entertains instantaneouslY so long as it is new and salable.  The importance is that it is livelY and funny and if it is necessary it does not matter  when it creates a pornographic impression. The shadow puppet peiformance has  changed into a commodiry or merchandise. Keywords: Puppetry, commodity, transformation

Abstract

Kata kunci: film, perempuan, Bali, budaya, sistem, bentuk.“Desak Terdesak” is a film of short fiction based on the issues of the lack of “appreciation” towards Balinese women. This work tells about the position and status of Balinese women in the custom that they are always under the men’s power. It is closely related to and based on the most Balinese belief, the patrilineal kinship system, wangsa system, and the parental teachings. In the short fiction film, the creator tries to present the sharper social conflict by combining the problems of domestic violance, economic depression, and thehelpnessness against customary law that makes Balinese women namely Desak is more distressed. Sinceyoung, Balinese women have been educated to be independent, working hard, and not to be a poor being that mustbe protected. Parents teach to always uphold dignity and to be ready to sacrifice in the name of family’s reputation. Balinese women have been given similar rights in getting education, employment and proposing opinion, on the other hand, they are tied by various systems held in Bali. “Desak Terdesak” has 20 minutes duration using Realism and Classical Hollywood approach as a form of work with linear plots corresponding to the action of events. Dialogue in the film uses Balinese language with Singaraja dialect to strengthen settingand characterization built in the story. Library sources like Eastern Philosophy, An Introductory To Hinduism AndBuddhism, Balinese Women, Balinese Custom, Hereditary Right Of Balinese Women And Misconceptions Of Caste is used as a reference in creating this work. The film that has been inspired by a real storyprovides little knowledge, informations, the reader as well as the audience understanding related to the women position in law and in customary intercommunication of Balinese community that follow patrilineal kinshipsystem. Keywords: film, woman, Bali, culture, system, form.

Abstract

Nature is one of God’s unique creations. Nature, with its perfect structure and balanced system, isable to maintain the continued survival of all creatures in the earth and to offer a variety of possiblecultivation for human welfare. On the other hand, nature also becomes the reference of people inresponding to life. Nature, with its phenomena, becomes an unwritten reference which can be readby anyone who is willing to read it. It is also true in the life of art that nature becomes the referenceand the source of inspiration in creating a work of art. Nature as man’s environment is made useas a sery theme, espeeidlly when the destruction of nature and its environment is getting worse atpresent. Nature gradually sustdins destruction because of human behavior. Consequently, naturewhich should be a blessing turns to be a disaster for human beings. This could happen as theeffect of improper behavior of a creature named a man to his environment. The relation of natureto human beings presented above forms the principle of the idea in creating the painting entitled“The Harmony of Nature in lmage” in the form of an interesting visual image which represents acertain meaning symbolically. The painting is visualized using kerok (scraping) technique andrefers to the combination of natural and expressive style although it seems to be decorativedepending on the idea so that an artistic, symbolic and representational form is created. Throughnew metaphors, the writer improvised innovatively based on the metaphors and then representedit in painting. In other words, the creation of the painting “The Harmony of Nature in lmage” is theresponse to the phenomenon of natural destruction existing in the writer’s surroundings.

Abstract

Women, in one hand, have a respected position in the matrilineal culture of Minangkabau society and, on the other hand, they are restricted when they want to express themselves in performing art. The efforts made by the female to demand that the Minangkabau society should tolerate women taking part in performing art, especially dancing, cause the pros and cons. However, the choreographers like Huriah Adam, Gusmiati Suid, Syofyani Bustamam, and Ery Mefry help the female gain wider access to take part in Minangkabau performing art. This research aimed at. finding out a rite using a folk dance. The data were collected using  observation, interview and documentation techniques. The data were processed using the technique  of qualitative data triangulation consisting of data reduction, data reformation and conclusion. The  research result shows that the village purifying ritual is a traditional custom that is still kept alive by  the villagers living on the slope of Merbabu mountain. The ritual is held annually on Friday Kliwon  on Jumadilakir (the sixth month of the Javanese calendar). A certain performing art is always  presented during the ritual. Lembu Sena is one of the folk dances presented as a means of the  ritual by Wahyu Budoyo group of art at dusun Ngagrong, Ngagrong Village, Ampel, Boyolali. For  the completion of the ritual, an offering is served together with a prayer and its intention. Here  acculturation takes place because the ancestor worship is mixed with Islamic beliefs. Traditional  Rodhat is presented before the presentation of Lembu Sena dance. And after the presentation of  Lembu Sena is over, Rodhat Kalijaga is performed. There are some supporting factors, internal  and external ones.Key words: Lembu Sena, ritual, village purifying ritual, acculturation.
