Abstract

This study aims to examine how a blind person recognizes and presents the aspects of convenience inside the house. The limited ability to see does not make the blind people weak, but it becomes an advantage and an easy walk when carrying out daily activities at home. The experience of the body and senses of the occupied space opens the blind people's awareness to be able to create a "feeling of home" as part of ways of giving the meaning of life for their days. Through a sense of experience, blind people have the ability to organize spaces including scale, shape, material, and distance according to their body's convenience. The sensory sensitivity of blind people in creating a sense of convenience is one of the parts of the process of forming the orderliness of the space they inhabit.

Abstract

History is the circumstances and events of human life in the past including previous achievements that are disclosed again. The glory, advancement, and fame of a certain nation, state, tribe or community group are often retold to educate, remember, and generate a positive spirit to build the future through various ways with various points of view in accordance with their respective fields of knowledge and passion.Jaza Chehata Hadi, in designing the interior of the Port, seeks to bring back the old Semarang atmosphere with the concept of Venice van Java, the nickname of Semarang city – Central Java Indonesia, years ago, due to many rivers in the middle of the city just like the city of Venice (Italy). The icons, documentation and knick-knacks of the past are presented to bring out the old Semarang atmosphere. The second article is Mahdi Nurcahyo's article, revealing how people with visual impairment or blindness recognize and present some aspects of convenience in the house where he lives in, as a part of giving meaning to everyday life through his sense of experience and sensitivity to arrange space according to his body's comfort. The third article by Muhammad Fadilah Fatah and his friends concerns on the design of a chair as a sitting facility which combines functions of bag, charger, as well as table by utilizing waste as its raw material to reduce environmental pollution. The existence of batik for Indonesian people is as the nation's ancestral cultural heritage. Batik covers various aspects such like philosophy, techniques or production, community economy, batik motifs, coloring, identity and other aspects. In the Edition XI, No. 2 of Pendhapa: Journal of Interior Design, Art and Culture, there are three articles related to batik. Two articles contain the results of some designs of the infrastructure facilities for the interiors to protect and develop batik. The revitalization of a noble's residence that had been neglected into a batik shop and museum in Laweyan village, Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia, is the article of Yosafat Adi Pradipta and Raden Ersnathan Budi Prasetyo. Another article about batik is the interior design of Omah Batik in Bayat, Klaten, Central Java, Indonesia as a means of protecting and developing batik, by Annisa Isma Safitri and Joko Budiwiyanto. The last article is batik motifs as a design idea for hotel design, written by Wahyu Tri Widiyanto and Putri Sekar Hapsari.History stores a lot of knowledge, philosophy, science, wisdom, and many other things. The time span of batik work that has been going on for generations has become a part of the history of the cultural journey of the people, especially in Java. The preservation and development is a shared responsibility. The scholars, the researchers, and the academics morally have the obligation to always be sensitive to various things, especially related to phenomena in their surrounding environment.

Abstract

The design of bags, chairs, chargers and tables is intended for commuter workers who carry out mobility activities every day. Design works that help to support commuter worker activities use a multi-functional system. The multi-function system is indicate by the shape and features attached. This product design method uses several stages including; 1) problem identification; 2) literature study: 3) design sketches, and: 4) design. The design results are turned into chairs, tables for lesehan (sitting on the floor) and bags. In addition, the other things are the storage box to store equipments for commuter workers while doing mobility and a solar cell which functions to capture sunlight which will be converted into electrical energy for energy sources to charge cellphones. Design works can be used in accordance with their respective functions. Design works carry the principle of multifunction, easy use, strong, lightweight and flexible. It is hoped that the design for this multi-functional products can be practical in use in the development of creative industries, and can overcome environmental pollution problems. From a theoretical perspective, it can be a reference for academics and science.

Abstract

Interior design as a scientific discipline related to problem solving is in harmony with the quality of human life, living creatures, to the micro-organisms contained therein. The scope of study of Interior Design, of course, covers various aspects which are interrelated and complementary. The interrelated fields include the conditions of natural environment, social, political, cultural, traditional, and local genius of the community, which also have an influence in interior design. The combination between/of these interrelated aspects can produce unique and distinctive interior design works.Being consistent with the previous editions, volume XI, number 1, Pendhapa: Journal of Interior Design, Art and Culture this edition presents nature-social environment as an idea in the interior design of a music school, written by W Ranta Cosynala and Ahmad Fajar Ariyanto, entitled “The Interior Design of a Music School for Persons with Vision Impairment With the Concept of Landmark Perception in Surakarta, Indonesia”.Two articles in this edition highlight interior design with the integration between natural environments and culture. The natural wealth and biological features of plants that inspire the designers for the making of batik motifs become the themes that, then, are actualized in the design. Anam Nur Cahyono and Indarto captured the potential of the surrounding nature with its natural beauty and cool weather in the design of Candi Loka Restaurant Ngawi, East Java, Indonesia. The unification of interior design with its natural and cultural atmosphere is reflected on the highlighted theme that is batik with tea leaves motif. The shape, color, and character of the tea leaves are explored as elements of unifying designs. The article entitled Interior Designing of Semarang Convention Center under the Theme of Asem Arang-Arang, by Devi Wijiyanto and Sumarno also highlighted thewealth and the uniqueness of local culture associated with natural wealth as its identity. Asem as an icon of the city of Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia is then used as a design idea and design theme. The design based on the natural wealth of culture is unavoidable because it concerns the universality of human-beings in which they grow and develop. Identity is a gift that exists in every human being, as a universal thing. The relationship between culture and universal human nature is very close that the design should also consider its universality aspect.Rangga Firmansyah and his friends researched the importance of a system for interior design to help people with special needs. Interior designs should accommodate the universal characteristics of people with disabilities or special needs to have the same opportunity to access user-friendly and barrier-free facilities. Some limitations are also felt by nursing mothers in breastfeeding their children, especially when they are in public spaces. Siti Badriyah and I Nyoman Suyasa write a research article on the convenience and ergonomics aspects of lactation rooms in public spaces, especially in the several public general hospitals in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. Chief EditorSumarno.

This design aims to create the interior design of a Women’s Health and Beauty Center in Surakarta City which is able to facilitate all activity needs in comfortable and safe ways, and provides excellent beauty care and body fitness services. The interior design of a Women’s Health and Beauty Center adopts Kurtz's programming method consisting of orientation stages, basic program creation, programming repetition, until the design reaches approval. The design foundation used is the aesthetic, ergonomic, and functional approaches. This design, with eclectic concept, is objected to gain attraction from the visitors by the creation of a space with a post-modern style that presents the theme of parang batik motifs. Surakarta's local wisdom in the form of such batik motifs aligned with modern elements with tropical nuances will answer the typical Indonesian comfort within several spaces, including: Main Lobby, Fitness Area Lobby, Gymnastics Studio, Fitness, Beauty Area Lobby, Whirlpool Room, Day Spa Room, Facial Treatment Room, Pedicure &Manicure Room, and Sauna Room.
