Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the effect of using question strategy on students’ reading comprehension in Prima Indonesia University, Medan, academic year 2019/2020. In this research, the subjects were 2 classes of second semester with 30 students each class. This research was a quasi experimental with two groups pretest and post test design. The procedures of collecting data are divided into three parts, they are pretest, treatment and post-test. The  data can be calculated by scoring two groups paper are count answer get 1 point from 20 questions. The hypothesis is proved the value of t-observed is higher than t-table they are ( 3.21>1.671) at the level of significance alpha 0.05 and the degree of freedom (df)= 58. It can be concluded that the students were taught by using question strategy significantly affects on students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

The paper discusses shifts occurred in the Indonesian translation of Little Match Girl. This research aims to investigate those translation shifts. Furthermore, researchers aimed to describe and calculate the frequency of shifts. This research methodology was descriptive qualitative. Data collection was done by collecting words, clauses and sentences that experienced a shift in translation. The data in this research are short story text ‘Little Match Girl’ in English by Hans Christian Andersen in 1845 and ‘Gadis Penjual korek Api’ in Indonesian by Harum L Wibowo in 2015. The results showed that: (1) all types of shifts occurred; level shifts, structure shifts, class shifts, unit shifts, and intra-system shifts (2) unit shifts counted as the most common shifts occured in the Indonesian translated version of Little Match Girl with 42 cases out of 121 units found. The present study may provide information in translation matters and could be considered as a contribution of a research-based samples to similar research in translation deals.Keywords: translations shifts,Little Match Girl, short story.

Abstract

Since March  2020, teaching and learning at schools have come to a new reality that both teachers and students should be able utilize any model of online learning due to the outbreak of Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19). Google Classroom is a online learning platform has been considered the possible approach to continue the teaching and learning process during this pandemic. Referring to this case, this research was intended to find out students perception of using Google Classroom as English teaching media during Corona Virus 2019. The implementation was observed engaging 34 students of 11-PMIA-2. Survey research was used to find out students perception of using Google Classroom in online English class. Questionnaire  was used to collect the data about students’ perception. The results showed students have positive perception toward Google Classroom. It was online teaching media which able to support students English learning activities and made students engaging in learning English,useful and helpful for the students  in order to achieved English learning goal by using  the system distributed ,managing-grading task,teacher intervention on feedback and evaluation task of students which helped students learnt and understand English during Corona Virus 2019.

Abstract

AbstractLearning Vocabulary is an important and basic part of mastering language skill. The students are able to master language skills if he has good vocabulary. On the other hand, there is a big challenge for the English teacher in the remote area to make the students enthusiastic in learning English Vocabulary. Teacher needs to use something that is close to students’ life in teaching new vocabulary. Nowadays, mobile phone and games are something that cannot be separated from for students’ life. The teacher can use online mobile games like “Clash of Kings” as an alternative media to make students interested in learning English vocabulary. This research was conducted to know whether or not there is an influence of playing “Clash of King” online mobile game in teaching English vocabulary at the seventh grade of MTs. Al Fattah Banyuurip Ujungpangkah Gresik. The result of the research indicated that there is an influence of online mobile game “Clash of King” in teaching English vocabulary.

Abstract

An English textbook has an important role in teaching and learning process, to support the learning process in the classroom. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the English for Specific Purposes of Nursing bachelor program and diploma program. This study was conducted by using qualitative approach and analyses in descriptive method. The samples were 92 respondents and was divided from 62 students of 3rd grade of nursing bachelor program and 30 students of 3rd from diploma of nursing of STIKES Pemkab Jombang who are getting the English subject in this semester and the sampling technique used total sampling. The instrument of this study used questionnaire and the interview guideline in form of closed – ended question. The data analysis was descriptive analysis in the form of number. The result of this study revealed that the English for Nursing Textbook was well designed and encouraged the students’ ability to improve the skills in Nursing English language. English subject help the students to communicate in English to support their career in field of nursing Education. Although this english textbook is good enough, there are some evaluations, such as provided the listening comprehension for listening activity, so the lecturers have to open a youtube to improve the students’ ability in listening and speaking.

Abstract

This article is the study of magical girl in the novel using magic theory and descriptive qualitative as the method. Through such a method, the researcher analyzes and describes the words and the author’s description regarding magical girl in the novel; Luna’s childhood that is full of magical life, the elements of fantasy potrayed in the novel, andcomparison of Luna’s magic to Xan’s magic. The finding is that Luna as the main character learning magic from her foster parent, Xan, is really a magical girl since her magic is stronger than her teaching foster parent, Xan, the witch. Besides, the elements of fantasy shows magical situation in which Luna lives.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims at finding out level is the students listening ability on English Song categorized and at describing the difficulties faced by the students in listening ability on English Song. Therefore, this writer applied listening  test. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. There are 10 students taken to do the test. The writer use two items for measuring; missing word and multiple choice. The results showed that the students' listening ability toward songs reached a minimum standard of completeness (83%). Then from research testing conducted by the author shows that the ability to listen of the second year  in SMA Negeri Noemuti Timur can reach the minimum standard of achievement (83%) using songs because the songs are easy for students to improve their listening abilities. The data shows that there are 10 students attended in the listening test and all the past in the test. The students have mastered listening using English Songs in the missing word. The students’ average score is 81% and the level of ability is very good. The students have mastered listening using English songs in the Multiple Choice test. The student’s average score is 85% and the level of ability is very good. Keywords : Listening, Ability, English Song.
