Abstract

This study examines how the symbol “Tembok Ratapan Solo” (Solo Wailing Wall) was constructed and given meaning as a form of political satire and criticism within the digital public sphere. It addresses three interrelated questions: how the symbol’s meaning is constructed at the textual level through diction, metaphor, and layers of denotation, connotation, and myth; how discursive practice produces, distributes, and consumes the discourse across platforms; and how the discourse reflects the sociocultural contest between hegemony and counter-hegemony in post-Jokowi Indonesian politics. Using a constructivist paradigm and a qualitative descriptive approach, the study employs Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional Critical Discourse Analysis as its sole method. Within this framework, Barthes’ semiotics and Berger and Luckmann’s social construction serve as analytical tools for the textual dimension, Habermas’ public sphere for the discursive dimension, and Gramsci’s hegemony for the sociocultural dimension. The renaming of former President Joko Widodo’s residence on Google Maps, amplified through Instagram, TikTok, and mainstream media, transformed a private home into a contested political symbol. The findings show that the symbol functions as grassroots criticism of political dynasties and the continuity of Jokowi’s post-presidential influence, conveyed largely through connotation and the intertextual borrowing of a global religious symbol. The study’s central contribution is its identification of a paradoxical logic: contemporary Indonesian digital satire is among the most effective expressions of grassroots critique, yet also the most vulnerable to commodification and re-appropriation by the very power it criticizes, as indicated by reports of an orchestrated “Wailing Wall tourism.” Keywords: political satire, critical discourse analysis, digital public sphere, political symbol, hegemony.

Abstract

The practice of corruption in Indonesia remains highly resilient due to the deeply entrenched influence of the oligarchy within the bureaucracy. Consequently, the president utilizes political communication as a strategic instrument for policy intervention. This study aims to examine the anti-corruption discourse embedded in President Prabowo Subianto's speech delivered on December 24, 2025, with a particular focus on the coinage of the neologism "Serakahnomics." Adopting a qualitative approach, this research employs Norman Fairclough’s model of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to analyze the textual data derived from the speech transcript. The results indicate three primary findings. First, at the textual level, the deployment of the term "Serakahnomics" concretely frames grand corruption as an existential threat capable of devastating the state. Second, in terms of discursive practice, the delivery of the speech is strategically designed to demonstrate the government's legal decisiveness while simultaneously mobilizing widespread public support. Third, within the broader sociocultural context, this discourse actively seeks to dismantle the dominance of corrupt corporate entities and foster a spirit of nationalism aimed at safeguarding state assets. This study concludes that the neologism coined in the presidential speech transcends mere rhetorical device; rather, it functions as a potent instrument of political communication intended to combat bureaucratic corruption and undermine oligarchic power. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the social media platform TikTok on the consumer behavior of teenagers in the Penjaringan toll underpass area, North Jakarta. The research uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory survey method on 30 active TikTok-using teenagers. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using simple linear regression with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 25. The results show that TikTok has a significant impact on teenage consumer behavior with a significance value of 0.008 (<0.05). The regression equation obtained is Y = 21.048 + 0.364X, indicating a positive relationship between TikTok usage and consumer behavior. The coefficient of determination (R Square) value of 0.225 shows that TikTok contributes 22.5% to teenage consumer behavior, while 77.5% is influenced by other factors outside the study. These findings indicate that the higher the intensity of TikTok use, the higher also the tendency for teens to have consumptive behavior. Keywords: TikTok, social media, consumptive behavior, adolescents, Penjaringan.

Abstract

The shift in regional language use among adolescents has predominantly been examined from a sociolinguistic perspective, emphasizing language frequency and the factors driving language shift. However, limited attention has been given to adolescents’ subjective experiences in constructing the meaning of regional language use. This study aims to explore the meaning of Javanese language communication among adolescents in Blimbing Village, Sambirejo District, Sragen Regency through Alfred Schutz's phenomenological perspective. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed involving eight adolescent informants and two parents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using phenomenological procedures. The findings reveal that adolescents construct Javanese as a cultural identity, a medium for maintaining social relationships, and a cultural heritage worthy of preservation. These meanings emerge from the stock of knowledge developed through everyday interactions with family, peers, and the surrounding community. Furthermore, adolescents’ language choices are influenced by motives rooted in past experiences and in-order-to motives oriented toward achieving communication effectiveness while preserving social harmony. Although Indonesian is increasingly dominant in educational, peer, and digital communication contexts, this shift reflects communicative adaptation rather than the erosion of cultural identity. This study contributes to communication and phenomenological research by demonstrating that the sustainability of Javanese is shaped not merely by the frequency of language use but by the meanings constructed through adolescents' lived experiences and intersubjective social interactions. Keywords: Javanese language, phenomenology, Alfred Schutz, cultural identity, adolescents

Abstract

Sustainable infrastructure development requires not only technical solutions but also effective environmental communication to balance environmental protection, social legitimacy, and community welfare. This study examines how Eco-Dialogue communication supports the sustainable development of the Semarang–Demak Toll Road Section 1, a National Strategic Project integrating a toll road and sea wall for tidal flood mitigation. A qualitative single instrumental case study was conducted using semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis involving nine informants representing government agencies, project contractors, local authorities, and fishing communities. Data were analyzed through the Miles et al. interactive model and pattern matching based on Cox's Environmental Communication framework. The findings reveal that Eco-Dialogue operates through seven interconnected communication domains that collectively shape stakeholder relationships and sustainable development outcomes. Environmental rhetoric strengthened the project's legitimacy through a tidal-flood mitigation narrative, while participation, collaboration, and community-based risk communication enhanced social acceptance and conflict resolution. However, environmental education remained fragmented because of institutional divisions of responsibility, limiting community adaptive capacity. The study introduces Eco-Dialogue as a novel analytical perspective that integrates Environmental Communication with Sustainable Development by conceptualizing communication as a continuous process of dialogue, negotiation, collaboration, and shared meaning-making in strategic infrastructure governance. The findings extend the application of Environmental Communication theory beyond conservation contexts and highlight the importance of institutional coordination, inclusive stakeholder participation, and continuous environmental education to strengthen the sustainability of future infrastructure projects.
