Abstract

The combination of online and offline learning had an impact on students' affective knowledge and skills. This study investigated the relationship between combined offline-online learning method and students’ competency, academic grades, and satisfaction in the Childbirth and Newborn Care Course. This study employed a retrospective cohort design and involved 175 students who completed the Childbirth and Newborn Care Course (attending more than 14 sessions) and the final exam. The data collection utilized the lecturer’s grade records and for the evaluation of students’ satisfaction evaluations the existing academic system was used. Chi-square analysis revealed a significant relationship between the combined offline-online method and students’ skill competency (r = 0.000) and academic grades in the Childbirth and Newborn Care Course. However, no significant relationship was observed between the combined offline and online method and student satisfaction. These findings suggested a need for developing teaching method from conventional to combined offline and online learning. The combined offline-online learning must be well-designed and aligned with learning objectives so that students can be engaged in the learning process properly.

Abstract

Spleen dampness syndrome (Pi Xu Re Yang) characterized by impaired circulation and fluid metabolism exacerbates complications of peripheral neuropathy, peripheral artery disease, and infection in diabetic patients that can lead to limb amputation. The development of diabetic foot ulcers and further nerve damage can be prevented with circulatory treatment and acupressure therapy that can maintain blood circulation to the extremities. The purpose of this case study is to describe the application of acupressure and circulatory care combination to diabetic patients with spleen dampness syndrome. This case study was conducted over three visits in three weeks, using the method of applying foot care, foot exercises, foot spa and footwear selection combined with acupressure techniques on certain meridians to 2 diabetic patients. The results achieved were in the form of decreased complaints of tingling, numbness, and pale skin tone, increased peripheral pulse strength, and improved filling of capillaries and skin turgor. This shows that acupressure-circulation treatment combination was able to reduce neuropathy score from low-risk category to very low-risk category. The case study showed that the application of acupressure-circulation combination was successful in improving peripheral perfusion. Future research was recommended to measure circulation using the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) and doppler methods to get an accurate evaluation.

Abstract

Sleep problems were experienced by around 44.2% of babies in Indonesia. 72% of parents did not consider sleep disturbances as a problem of children’s growth and development, so it did not get maximum treatment. This study aims to determine the effect of baby SPA, screen time duration, and noise on the quality of children’s sleep. The research design was analytical with a cross-sectional study design. The research was conducted from October 1st, 2023 to November 30th, 2023 at Sun Baby SPA and Alodea Baby Care. The number of respondents was 80 mothers of toddlers who participated in the baby SPA. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The variables included baby SPA, screen time duration, noise, and child sleep quality. The data was collected using the Brief Infant Sleep Questionnaire and other specific data was filled out online through a Google form link. The data obtained were then analyzed multivariately using logistic regression. The results showed a significant relationship between baby SPA, screen time duration, and noise on child sleep quality (p<0.05). The logistic regression results showed that screen time duration had a greater influence on child sleep quality (p=0.018, OR=8.058). The duration of screen time must get special attention from parents since reducing screen time exposure in children affects the quality of children’s sleep quality and growth and development.

Abstract

There had been no structured breathing exercise intervention for patients at the beginning of post-extubation after the installation of mechanical ventilation in a hospital in Indonesia. Thus, this study aimed to determine the effects of respiratory muscle exercises on lung function in the early period of extubation. The research design used quasi experimental without control group. Respiratory muscle training intervention is carried out 1 hour after extubation through deep breathing 30 times (rest pause for 10 deep breaths) for 30-60 minutes. The exercises were given once a day for 3 days or according to the patient's condition. The population of this study were all patients after installation of a ventilator at the ICU. The sampling technique was consecutive with a total of 30 respondents. The instrument was an observation sheet, the results of respiratory frequency, and oxygen saturation parameters from the bedside monitor. Bivariate data analysis used Wilcoxson test. The results of the study showed that there were effects of respiratory muscle training on lung function in the initial extubation period with a p-value of 0.000 (p-value < 0.05). The results of the study proved that respiratory muscle training can improve the oxygenation function of the lungs in the early period of extubation.

Abstract

Stunting can be caused by risk factors and pregnancy complications. Both in national and global context, it can disrupt the productivity and quality of human resources in the future. Examining the correlation of factors related to stunting in infants aged 24-35 months is the purpose of this study. This study used a cross-sectional design based on observational analytics. The participants were mothers living around the Saumlaki Public Health Center who gave birth to toddlers. The total samples were 70 mothers with the following variables: age, gestational age, maternal nutritional status, income, education, and knowledge. The Chi-Square test was used to analyze the data of this study. The data collection techniques included surveys and careful observation. This study found that the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-35 months was correlated with factors such as maternal age <20 years (p 0.001), history of gestational age between 20-36 weeks (p <0.001), low education level (p <0.001), low-income level (p <0.001), lack of knowledge (p <0.001), and maternal nutritional status (p <0.001). Health workers need to provide health education about the dangers of stunting-risky pregnancy, such as early pregnancy, premature pregnancy and mothers who experience KEK.

Abstract

The suboptimal knowledge and understanding of patients and their families regarding the triage system in emergency department can lead to conflicts due to the feeling of neglected and not receiving definitive action. Therefore, developing a triage model with active interventions of caring, education, and patient safety is required in triage services at emergency department. This study aimed to determine the effects of caring, education, and patient safety (CEST)-based triage model on the level of patient satisfaction at Hermina Hospital, Indonesia. This study used a quantitative approach with a true experimental design using a post-test only group control design. The samples in this study were 30 intervention groups and 30 control groups selected with simple random sampling techniques. The statistical test used was an independent t-test. The results of this study showed that there was a significant difference in patient satisfaction between the control group and the intervention group. The mean of the control group was 26.07 and 29.70 for the intervention group. The p-value of the effects of implementing the CEST triage model between the control and intervention groups was 0.002 (< 0.05). Developing the CEST-based triage model can improve patient satisfaction by providing a sense of caring, education, and implementing patient safety in the hospital.

Abstract

Hypertension is a growing global health problem that can lead to serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. This condition is often overlooked, necessitating accessible non-pharmacological intervention strategies such as low-impact aerobic exercise. This study aims to explore the effects of low-impact aerobic exercise in lowering blood pressure of hypertensive patients. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design. The study population consisted of 35 hypertensive patients at the working area of Baki Public Health Center with inclusion criteria, namely: patients with mild to moderate hypertension who were capable to do physical activity and not routinely taking medication. The exercise intervention was conducted for 8 weeks with a frequency of 2-3 times per week and a duration of 15 minutes per session. The gathered data was analyzed by using Wilcoxon signed-rank test, obtaining a P-value of < 0.001 for systolic blood pressure and 0.001 for diastolic blood pressure. The result of the data analysis identified that low impact aerobic exercise has a significant effect in lowering hypertension.
