Abstract

Smoking behavior is still a health problem globally and in Indonesia. Smoking is a behavior that is a risk factor for various types of non-communicable diseases. Based on the results of community diagnosis, smoking behavior at home is 27%, and this includes groups of men and teenagers. Based on this problem, education is needed about the dangers of smoking through community service activities. This activity aims to provide an understanding of the dangers and impacts of smoking. The method used is direct counseling, assisted by leaflets and posters so they can be read again at home. The results obtained were an increase in knowledge before and after being given counseling regarding the dangers and impacts of smoking (sig. 0.000). It can be concluded that education about the dangers and impacts of smoking is effective in increasing public knowledge, so it is hoped that this understanding can influence smoking cessation behavior.

Abstract

Common non-communicable disease such as hypertension or diabetes mellitus is often found in elderly. Irregular medical check-up and uncontrolled medicine could lead into complications such as stroke and kidney failure. Elderly is also considered vulnerable and fragile, thus memory disturbance also sometimes occurs. Although these problems are inevitable due to ageing process, many strategies can be applied to prevent to complications. For example, by giving regular check-ups and knowledge transfer through health promotion, as well as early screenings. Thus, the aims for the community service are increasing the elderly’s understanding, forming proactive elderly and providing laboratory screenings. The method used is interactive presentation about non-communicable disease, medical check-ups for blood glucose, uric acid and total cholesterol level, and memory to quality of life assessment for elderly. The target of this service is elderly congregate of Jihad (Pengajian Ahad) Pagi of PCM (Pimpinan Cabang Muhammadiyah) North Banguntapan, Bantul Regency, DIY (Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta). The result of the implementation of the service activity is increasing knowledge and awareness in regards of non-communicable and mental disease in elderly, as well as medical screenings data for next service project.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah has grown rapidly throughout the world in quantity through special branches as well as quality by targeting the Dawah model, including digital Dawah. Muhammadiyah realizes that the development of digital dawah requires quality human resources and continues to develop to increase its capacity to promote dawah using digital technology. The leadership of the Muhammadiyah Special Branch Taiwan is one of the overseas branches that has developed digital dawah since its establishment. The purposes of the service are to help Muhammadiyah Special Branch Taiwan enhancing the dawah by applying digital technology and to help to transform digital consumers into digital creator. We expect this service will strengthen Muhammadiyah Special Branch Taiwan networking. This program contributes to the Muhammadiyah Special Branch in Taiwan to manage membership and activities, to link with other Islamic Organizations, and to spread the dawah internationally through an informatics system developed by the UAD team.

Abstract

This paper aims to describe how the Council for Libraries and Information of the Regional Leadership of Muhammadiyah in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (MPI PWM DIY) organized a cadre journalism school to equip Muhammadiyah cadres and administrators in the Muhammadiyah organization in Yogyakarta with journalistic skills aligned with the values of Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah (AIK). The training was conducted in a workshop format, where participants were provided with ideal academic writing techniques and then introduced to AIK-standard journalistic principles. Subsequently, participants were guided to produce journalistic scripts ready for publication in the Muhammadiyah DIY-affiliated news media.

Abstract

Implementing food safety and quality practices at the household level is crucial to preventing foodborne illnesses and ensuring family health. This community service program focuses on promoting food safety and quality awareness in Banjarsari Village, Samigaluh District, Kulon Progo Regency, based on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) 5 Keys to Safer Food protocol. The program aimed to educate local communities on essential food handling practices to reduce foodborne illnesses and analyze the success factor prioritization of food safety and quality implementation. The community service activities encompassed conducting technical meetings, packaging all safe food items, executing the program, identifying the success factors for food safety and quality using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and evaluation. The trainer explained in detail that the five keys to safer food include keeping clean, separating raw and cooked foods, cooking thoroughly, keeping food at safe temperatures, and using safe water and raw materials. According to the AHP analysis, factor 6 (choosing food processed for safety) had the highest weight (0.285) and the alternative of keep foods at safe temperature showed the most desirable values on the vertical axis (0.279). All participants expressed enthusiasm in this community service program and anticipated its continuation in the future.
