Abstract

Managing classroom behavior is a global challenge, with disruptive actions like talking out of turn and physically disturbing peers undermining both teaching effectiveness and the learning experience. Traditional disciplinary methods often fall short, sometimes exacerbating the very behaviors they aim to curb. This study introduces a novel approach: storytelling-based play therapy, designed to reduce specific disruptive behaviors within the classroom. Focusing on an 8-year-old child identified as frequently disruptive, the intervention involved four consecutive days of 30-minute storytelling sessions, each crafted to enhance social skills, empathy, and self-regulation. The results were compelling a 25% reduction in talking out of turn and a dramatic 62.5% decrease in physical disturbances. These findings suggest that storytelling is not only an engaging and non-punitive strategy but also one that can bring about significant behavioral improvements. While the study's single-subject design limits generalizability, the promising outcomes open the door for further research across diverse educational settings. This research underscores the potential of storytelling as a transformative tool in classroom management, offering educators a creative and effective alternative to conventional disciplinary practices. By fostering a more positive and inclusive environment, storytelling could become a cornerstone of modern behavior management strategies in schools.

Abstract

Individuals with agoraphobia disorder tend to be afraid of being in open spaces and have difficulty leaving the house and driving alone. Systematic desensitization is one of the treatments considered effective in treating agoraphobia. The case study aims to determine the application of systematic desensitization in patients with agoraphobia through a single case study design. The participant was a 28-year-old female patient diagnosed with agoraphobia. Systematic desensitization intervention is carried out by following the steps of relaxation exercises, arranging anxiety hierarchies, and gradual exposure to the anxiety sources. The main measurement is carried out through the patient's self-report SUDS (Subjective Units of Discomfort Scale) score for each source of anxiety about open space. The results showed a change in SUDS scores before and after systematic desensitization. Discussion and limitations about this case study are provided for practitioners and researchers interested in systematic desensitization, supported by the explanation of the intervention stages.

Unemployed individuals are highly susceptible to depressive disorders that impact their cognitive dynamics. Rumination, commonly observed in individuals with depressive disorders, reinforces depressive affect. Addressing rumination is crucial for cognitive management, ultimately alleviating depressive symptoms. This single-case study investigates the effectiveness of rumination-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (RFCBT) on a 24-year-old unemployed female. Assessments involved interviews, observations, the PHQ-9, and EPPS, followed by 10 intervention sessions, including 8 therapy sessions. Post-intervention results, measured using the Reliability Change Indicator (RCI) on pre-and post-treatment PHQ-9 scores, demonstrated a significant score reduction of 17 points (89.47%). Descriptive data from semi-structured interviews corroborated these findings.

Abstract

Digital mental health platforms are increasingly emerging. These platforms provide psychological interventions and offer mental health-related content through their social media accounts on Instagram. While this content can raise awareness about mental health, it may also lead to misunderstandings and increase the risk of self-diagnosis. A recent study utilized content analysis to describe the characteristics of mental health-related content on Instagram. The results showed that the most dominant content category is romantic and family relationships, followed by life problems and psychological disorders, recovery and self-love, social media engagement, psychological knowledge, and finally, work and social relationships as the smallest category. Further investigation into science-based content is needed.
