Abstract

Wualae (Etlingera elatior (Jack) R.M. Smith) belonging to Zingeberaceae that spread in South East Sulawesi, empirically used as staple and treatment. The aim of this research to determine the antimicrobial potential of ethanol extract fruit of E. elatior against gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Bacillus subtilis FNCC 0060), and gram negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Salmonella enterica ATCC 14028) using cup-plate method. The antimicrobial activity based on the diameter of inhibition zone. The result shows that extract more potential to inhibit gram positive than gram negative while the highest inhibition illustrate by concentration of 20 mg/mL (inhibition zone= 5 mm). In conclusion, the extract of E. elatior no potent as antimicrobial candidate (category= weak).

Abstract

Infectious diseases still remain a major problem in tropical countries like Indonesia. Uncontrolled of antimicrobials consumption leads to the emergence of resistance. So new antimicrobial searches need to be carried out. One of the plants suspected of having antimicrobial activity was Pazote (Chenopodium ambrosioides L.). Extraction of C. ambrosioides leaves was carried out by maceration with 70% ethanol. Antimicrobial activity was carried out by Kirby-Bauer (modified) at concentrations of 5, 10, and 15% while the inhibitory zone was observed daily for 3 days. The results showed that the duration of contact did not affect to the diameter of the inhibitory zone. The largest inhibitory diameter is indicated by 15% was 12.33 mm. In addition, the ethanol extract of C. ambrosioides leaves has the potential as an antimicrobial against Escherichia coli.

Abstract

Daun Bidens biternata (Lour) Merr. & Sherff digunakan oleh masyarakat secara empiris di Nusa Tenggara Timur untuk pengobatan penyakit liver. Kandungan flavanoid dalam tanaman ini sekitar 60 jenis yang mempunyai berbagai macam aktifitas seperti antioksidan dan anti-inflamasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek hepatoregeneratif ekstrak etanol daun B. biternata pada tikus yang mengalami kerusakan hati akibat induksi parasetamol dengan parameter ALT, AST dan bilirubin. Sebanyak 12 ekor tikus yang dibagi dalam 4 kelompok perlakuan: kontrol negatif (1% Na.CMC); dan 3 kelompok perlakuan (dosis 50; 100; dan 200 mg/kgBB). Berdasarkan analisis statistik, tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara 3 kelompok perlakuan ekstrak (p>0.05), akan tetapi didapatkan perbedaan yang bermakna antara kelompok perlakuan dengan kontrol negatif. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah ekstrak etanol B. biternata pada semua dosis perlakuan dapat menurunkan kadar ALT, AST dan bilirubin yang mengindikasikan bahwa ekstrak memiliki efek hepatoregeneratif pada tikus yang diinduksi parasetamol.

Abstract

One of the plants that are often used to maintain of our healthy body is the star fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.), that high contains vitamin C. Cigarette smoke contains harmful substances such as nicotine, tar, and carbon monoxide are the trigger free radicals. The purpose of this study to evaluate the effect of star fruit juice to physical ability of male mice (Mus musculus) against cigarette smoke-induced. Mice were divided into five groups (n=5/group): standard group where Garcia (1.04 mg /20 g BW), was used as standard drug and 3 test groups were given fresh juice of star fruit (0.2 mL, 0,4 mL, 0,6 mL/ 20gram BW) was used for 14 days via gavage through oral route. All groups were exposed to cigarette smoke during treated (1 cigarette per day). The physical ability was assessed on day 15-forced swimming test (FST) has been done in mice. The results showed a strong and dose-dependent prevention effect and significantly exhibited an increase in mean swim endurance time on day 15 compared to baseline (p <0.05). In conclusion, the star fruit juice possesses a protective effect.

Abstract

Patch formulation studies have been conducted mulberry leaf extract with various concentrations of polyvinyl pirilidon and ethyl cellulose (EC) obtain a patch with good physical characteristics. Physical evaluation includes weight, thickness, and folding endurance, loss on drying and moisture uptake. The results showed that the optimum formula by solvent evaporation method is F3 (PVP : EC = 200 : 400) with average weight (0,76±0.006 g), resilience fold (> 200), thickness (0.411±0.039 cm), drying shrinkage (38.12 > 9.29 ) and absorption (29.06 > 9.79 ).

Abstract

Sukrosa dalam sediaan sabun transparan adalah sebagai bahan transparansi dan sebagai humektan yang dapat melembabkan kulit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas kelembaban sabun transparan ekstrak Sargassum cristaefolium C. Agardh pada kulit dengan variasi konsentrasi sukrosa (20%, 25%, 30%, dan 25%) serta menentukan komposisi terbaik sabun yang memiliki transparansi dan kelembaban yang tinggi . Penelitian ini melibatkan 11 orang panelis wanita yang berusia 20-35 tahun, kelembaban kulit diukur dengan Skin analyzer. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setelah penggunaan hari kelima, kadar kelembaban kulit panelis dari 15-19% (kategori kulit kering) meningkat menjadi 30-50% (kategori normal). Semua formula memberikan efek melembabkan pada kulit namun tidak berbeda signifikan (p>0,05). Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa F3 dengan konsentrasi sukrosa 30% adalah formula dengan komposisi terbaik karena memiliki transparansi tinggi dan memiliki efek melembabkan.

Abstract

Sinar matahari mengandung sinar ultraviolet (UV) yang dapat membahayakan kulit. Sinar UV ini dapat menimbulkan berbagai kelainan pada kulit seperti eritema, pigmentasi, penuan dini, kekeringan, keriput, bahkan menyebabkan kanker kulit. Sehingga diperlukan perlindungan baik secara fisik dengan menutupi tubuh misalnya menggunakan payung, topi, atau jaket dan secara kimia dengan menggunakan tabir surya. Telah dilakukan penelitian uji aktivitas tabir surya ekstrak ubi ungu secara spektrofotometri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memperoleh data mengenai aktivitas tabir surya ekstrak tersebut dengan parameter persentasi transmisi eritema, pigmentasi dan sun protection factor (SPF) pada panjang gelombang 292,5–372,5 nm. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak ubi ungu pada konsentrasi 100 – 300 ppm sebagai suntan reguler, proteksi ekstra, dan tanning fast sedangkan pada konsentrasi 400ppm memiliki aktivitas sebagai tanning fast, sunblock; dan SPF proteksi sedang.

Abstract

The leaves of Clerodendrum minahassae Teijsm. & Binn. hasmany pharmacologica leffects as traditional medicine. Rawmaterialof traditional medicine should be standardized. Standardization of simplicia and ethanolic extract of C. minahassae leaves was performed to determine the standard parameters both of simplicia and extract. Determination ofquality standard extract include specific and non-specific parameters.The extract of C. minahassae obtained by maceration from C. minahassae leaves (C. minahassae folium) using ethanol with the acquisitionofrendement about 22%. The macroscopic obsevations showed that simplicia of C. minahassae leaves is greenish brown, egg-shaped, sharp edges, blunt stem, slippery surface, flat-brimmed, generally there are six pairs of pinnate bone leaves, the average leghth is 11,1 cm and the average width is 5,3 cm.The organoleptic of ethanolic extract is thick, brownish-black, has the distinctive smell and tastes bitter. Fragment identifiers of C. minahassae leaves such as crystalline calcium oxalate with stiloid shaped, file vessels with thickening ring, hair coverings conical and has a hair tip pointy, stomata with stone cell, the upper epidermis with stomata anomocytic types and lower epidermis with irregularly polygonal. Content of water-soluble compounds of simplicia is 19,932% and 52,096% of extract, while the content of ethanol-soluble compounds of simplicia is 11,776% and 35,108% of extract. The extract contains alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids and tannins​. Simplicia and extract, each containing ≤ 10% of water. Total ash content of simplicia is 27,783% and 12% of extract, while the acid insoluble ash content of simplicia is 4,242% and 2,518% of extract. The loss of drying of simplicia is 12,399% and 24,603% of extract. The density of extract is 1,055 g/ml. Total bacterial and fungal contamination of extract are qualified, with the values are 5.4 x 102 colonies/g and 5.0 x 102 colonies/g respectively.

Abstract

Temu giring (Curcuma heyneana Val & Zijp) memiliki kandungan flavonoid, minyak atsiri dan kurkumin yang mampu menghambat pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus. Bakteri jenis S. aureus merupakan salah satu bakteri penyebab jerawat. Bentuk masker gel peel-off dipilih dalam formulasi untuk mempermudah penggunaan, dan mampu memberikan pelepasan zat aktif yang lebih baik. Sedangkan karbopol 940 mampu meningkatkan karakteristik fisik dan difusi zat aktif dalam sediaan gel. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi karbopol 940 (1,00; 1,25 dan 1,75%) dalam sediaan masker gel peel-off ekstrak C. heyneana yang menghasilkan karakteristik fisika yang baik. Evaluasi fisika meliputi: organoleptis, homogenitas, daya sebar, daya lekat, viskositas, pH, waktu mengering, dan elastisitas serta aktivitas antibakterinya terhadap S. aureus. Berdasarkan uji statistika menunjukkan bahwa karbopol 940 sebagai basis gel dapat berpengaruh signifikan pada karakteristik fisik sediaan dan aktivitas antibakteri pada sediaan masker gel peel-off ekstrak C. heyneana. Konsentrasi optimum yang didapatkan dalam penelitian ini adalah 1,25%.

Abstract

Fagocytosis is a process characterized by phagocytic cells ingesting good, pathogenic foreign cells commonly carried out by macrophages. This study aimed to determine the phagocytic activity of a combination of crown extract of turate kasumba (Carthamus tinctorius L.) and dayak onion tuber extract (Eleutherine palmifolia) as immunostimulant. The study was experimental, the number of mice used in the test was 21 individuals and randomly divided into 7 groups (n = 3); K1 was given C. tinctorius extract 1% w/v; K2 was given E. palmifolia extract 2% w/v; K3 was given E. palmifolia extract 4% w/v; K4 and K5 was given syrup combination C. tinctorius and E. palmifolia extract = 1 : 2 and 1 : 4% w/v; K6 was given Stimuno®; while K7 as negative control. Phagocytic activity was carried out on the 11th day using the carbon cleaning method. The results showed that the highest phagocytic activity was shown by K4 significant (p <0.05) on K1, K2, K3, K5, K6, and K7. This shows that K4 has better immunostimulatory activity than other groups.
