Abstract

Pregnancy and childbirth are physiological processes that influence maternal mortality and morbidity risk factors. Proper mental and physical preparation is essential to prevent pathological conditions that may affect pregnant women. One effective intervention is engaging in physical activity, which positively impacts both the mother and fetus. This literature review aims to examine the relationship between physical activity and the health of pregnant women in physical, psychological, socio-economic, cultural, and environmental aspects. This study employs a literature review methodology using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and MetaAnalyses) approach. Article selection was conducted using the PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) framework, with keywords such as “pregnant women,” “physical activity,” “sports,” “benefits,” and “exercise” in Indonesian and English. The literature search was performed using Sage Journals, Scopus, and Google Scholar for articles published between 2019 and 2024 also free full-text. A total of six relevant studies were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings indicate that physical activity offers significant benefits for pregnant women and fetuses, particularly in improving their quality of life both physically and mentally. Pregnant women in rural areas tend to be more physically active than those in urban areas, and light exercises such as walking or yoga help reduce the body’s burden, enhance sleep quality, alleviate stress, and prevent pregnancy complications. Further longitudinal research and education are necessary to understand the long-term effects of physical activity on pregnant women and to raise awareness of its benefits, especially in urban areas. Keywords: Maternal well-being, Pregnancy, Physical activity

Abstract

Background: Cognitive changes in the elderly are a natural consequence of the degenerative process. In this process, sleep quality becomes an important factor affecting cognitive function. While it is known that prolonged sleep disturbances can increase the risk of cognitive impairment in the elderly, few studies have specifically explored the relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in the context of the elderly in elderly residents. Aim: To determine the relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in elderly residents. Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a descriptive-analytic design and a cross-sectional approach. The research population comprised all elderly residents of Tresna Werdha Social Institution Budi Mulia 3 in Jakarta, totaling 282 individuals, with a sample size of 80 elderly individuals selected using simple random sampling. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires, and data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. Results: The results showed that the majority had good sleep quality (55%) and normal cognitive function (51.2%). There is a significant relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function (p=0.000) with an OR value of 19.444. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in the elderly. Recommendations: Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that nurses carry out community-based interventions, such as sleep health education activities and stress management, to support comprehensive elderly health. Further research is recommended to develop and test the effectiveness of non-pharmacological-based interventions, such as cognitive behavioural therapy and meditation techniques, in improving the quality of elderly sleep. Keywords: cognitive function; elderly; sleep quality.

Abstract

Choking in toddlers can be fatal, underscoring the importance for mothers to be well-versed in first aid and to exhibit a supportive attitude when responding. However, there are still gaps in mothers' understanding of proper first aid techniques and psychological factors that influence their responses in emergency situations. This study aims to determine mothers' knowledge and attitudes regarding jfirst aid for choking children. The research design was descriptive quantitative with Cross Sectional approach. The sample in this study was 100 mothers. The sampling techniques used are proportional sampling and convenience random sampling. The researched collected data in January 2024 using knowledge and attitude questionnaires, and then analyzed using univariate analysis. The results showed 66% of participants answered important statements incorrectly, namely first aid for choking by only giving a drink, 43% of participants answered abdominal thrust is not the first aid for choking in children over 1 year old. Participants' attitudes showed that 97% would give back blow or abdominal thrust, and 81% would give chest trust. The conclusion of this study is that the mother's knowledge is lacking in several crucial statements regarding choking management, although the attitude of most mothers agrees to provide back blow, abdominal thrust and chest thrust actions, so education, simulation and training are still needed. For further research, it can compare whether there is an increase in knowledge and attitudes after providing education and training according to the needs of mothers in handling choking.

Abstract

The increasing demand for globally competent nurses has prompted many Indonesian nurses to pursue international licensure, such as the NCLEX-RN in the United States. Understanding the motivations behind this pursuit is essential for informing nursing education, workforce planning, and international migration policies. This hermeneutic phenomenological study explored the lived experiences and motivational drives of Indonesian female nursing graduates pursuing the Registered Nurse (RN) licensure by passing the NCLEX-RN examination in California. Utilizing in-depth interviews with ten Indonesian female nurses who have successfully obtained their RN licenses and are practicing in California, the research aimed to uncover the complex interplay of personal, professional, economic, and socio-cultural factors shaping their decisions and experiences. The study revealed five overarching themes “Economic aspirations and the pursuit of financial stability,” “Professional growth and the desire for advanced opportunities,” Familial responsibilities and the drive to support loved ones,” “The allure of western healthcare systems and improved working conditions,” and “Navigating cultural adjustments and maintaining identity in a hew environment.” The findings provide valuable insights into the motivations, challenges, and resilience of Indonesian female nurses seeking international opportunities, ultimately contributing to a deeper understanding of the global nursing migration phenomenon. The implications of the study address the need for culturally sensitive support systems and policies to facilitate successful integration and retention of international nurses in healthcare settings.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that causes the second-largest number of deaths after Covid-19. There were 1,627 cases of TB in children in Jambi Province in 2021, while in the city of Jambi, the highest number of cases were in the Puskesmas Familiar Besar area with 159 cases. The impact of TB disease on children will disrupt growth and development. There is a need to address the impacts and new cases of TB in various ways, including health education for children's parents. This study aims to determine the effect of health education on parents' knowledge in preventing tuberculosis in children. This research is quantitative research with a pre-experimental design. The research subjects were parents who had children With a sample of 34 people, the sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected from 5 to 24 June 2023. The intervention provided was TB prevention material with video tools and leaflets. Data was collected using a questionnaire and analyzed univariately and bivariately using the T-Test. The results of univariate analysis showed that the average value of maternal knowledge before the intervention was 6.38 and the average value of maternal knowledge after the intervention was 8.15. The results of the bivariate analysis showed the influence of health education on parental knowledge in preventing tuberculosis in children with a p-value of 0.001. It is hoped that Puskesmas officers will provide health education in various activities to prevent the transmission of tuberculosis to children. This research can be developed with a digital education application to prevent TB in children.

Abstract

Ventilator weaning disorder is the inability to adapt to the reduction of mechanical ventilator assistance that can hinder and prolong the weaning process. Meningitis is strictly defined as inflammation of the meninges, while encephalitis is defined as inflammation of the brain. If both are inflamed, the patient experiences meningo encephalitis. Ventilator weaning (or ventilator weaning) is the process of gradually reducing the mechanical respiratory support provided by the ventilator to the patient. Successful weaning is defined as effective spontaneous breathing without any machine support for 24 hours or more. Study was to analyze ventilator weaning in post evd patients e.c communicating hydrocephalus, me tb brmc grade ii in the icu room of prof. Dr. I.g.n.g ngoerah bali hospital. The method used is a quantitative case study method. The data source of this study is primary data that has been interviewed with the patient’s family and also refers to medical record data as secondary data. The results obtained in this study are that the success factor of ventilator weaning is related to the patient’s age. In early adulthood, it is easier to achieve successful ventilator weaning because the body’s immune function, respiratory muscles and lung function are stronger compared to late adulthood. Then, oral hygiene measures will reduce the incidence of vap and avoid oral infections. Because these measures can kill bacterial growth in the oropharynx. The application of the vap bundle for the prevention and control of vap is stated in the regulation of the minister of health (permenkes) of the republic of indonesia number 27 of 2017 concerning guidelines and prevention of infection which includes hand hygiene, bed position 30-45°, oral hygiene, management of oropharyngeal and tracheal secretions, daily sedation assessment, and administration of deep vein thrombosis (dvt) prophylaxis. The conclusion of this study is that age factors and vap bundles can support the success of ventilator weaning in post-evd patients e.c communicated hydrocephalus, me tb brmc grade ii in the icu room of prof. Dr. I.g.n.g. Ngoerah bali hospital
