Abstract

Febrile seizure rate on toddler was quite high and tended to increase every year. This was because as toddler experiencing febrile seizures they were not properly handled by the parents. Febrile seizure in toddler if not treated quickly can affect the increasing in seizure frequency and can cause death. The capability of mother in handling febrile seizure must be based on the right knowledge of febrile seizure. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge of the mother before and after health education based on 10 steps in handling febrile seizure on toddler in Bandar Lampung Adventist Hospital. Experimental research method with one group pretest-posttest designed with random sampling technique approach involving 80 mothers with 0 to 5 year old who had fever being hospitalized. The researchers prepared 10 images of steps in handling febrile seizures randomly and asked the respondents to arrange the pictures according to their knowledge. The results were observed to determine their knowledge rearranging as pretest data. Afterward, health education was given about 10 correct steps. Thereafter, reobserved was made and the knowledge in arranging 10 images was obtained as post test data. The knowledge score before health education was 20.75% and after was 83.75%. While the analytical test used paired t test. The results showed a significant relationship between knowledge before and after health education. p value = 0.00 < 0.05. The results showed that the value of tcount (14.26) > t table (2.26). Increased knowledge in mothers reduced the risk of recurrence of febrile seizures in toddler and the nurse who had not tought these steps needed to run regularly to the mothers whose child was being hospitalized.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronical community health problem, and mostly suffered by the elderly. The elderly with DM have several symptoms at night that caused a sleep disorder and it may be affected by the poor quality of sleep.  The poor quality of sleep has several negative impacts to elderly including sleepy in the daylight, a lack of attention, memory disorders, depression, easy to fall, and reduce of the quality of life. There is a need for a study that assesses the sleep quality of elderly with DM. This study used descriptive quantitative approach. The samples were chosen using total sampling technique. This study involved 47 elderly with DM in the primary health center (PHC) Garuda. The data were collected using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) Questionnaire that has been adapted for elders. The data were analyzed using distribution frequency. The results showed that the majority of elderly had a poor sleep quality (51%). All elders in this study had sleep disorders, and some of them had behavior that affected   their sleep quality, such as sleeping in a bright room (n=25), sleeping in low temperature room (n=27), and consuming caffeine (n=28). Nurses in the community setting are expected to provide health education to maintenance a good sleep quality, such as the importance of sleeping in the dark and warm temperature room, and avoiding to consume caffeine.

Abstract

Hasil studi pendahuluan yang dilakukan menunjukkan masih banyak orang tua yang minder dan malu dengan keadaan anak mereka. Selain itu, masih banyak orang tua yang tidak menyekolahkan dan tidak mengetahui informasi terkait terapi untuk anak dengan disabilitas. Jika hal tersebut dibiarkan, maka dapat menyebabkan masalah yang serius, seperti terganggunya tumbuh kembang anak dan kebutuhan keluarga dengan anak disabilitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui gambaran kebutuhan keluarga dengan anak disabilitas di Komunitas Ikatan Keluarga dengan Anak Disabilitas Desa Cimekar Kecamatan Cileunyi Kabupaten Bandung. Penelitian menggunakan deskriptif kuantitatif dengan teknik pengambilan sampel total sampling dari 31 keluarga (ayah dan ibu). Kebutuhan keluarga dengan anak disabilitas diukur menggunakan kuesioner Assessment of Family Needs-FNS versi Jepang yang diadopsi dari Bailey dan Simerson (1988). Analisis data menggunakan persentase nilai setiap domain dan rerata skor yang dihitung dengan menggunakan nilai minimal dan maksimal (1-3) dari setiap item pertanyaan dari setiap sub-kebutuhan. Hasil menunjukkan kebutuhan ibu jika diurutkan dari tertinggi ke terendah adalah kebutuhan informasi dan dukungan profesional 71,0%, pelayanan komunitas 64,5%, menjelaskan kepada orang lain 38,7%, kebutuhan finansial 22,6%, perawatan anak 16,1%, dan dukungan keluarga/sosial 12,9%. Kebutuhan ayah dari tertinggi ke terendah yaitu kebutuhan informasi 71,0%, pelayanan komunitas 64,5%, dukungan profesional 61,0%, menjelaskan kepada orang lain 45,2%, kebutuhan finansial 29,0%, perawatan anak 22,6%, dan dukungan keluarga/sosial 19,4%. Kebutuhan informasi merupakan kebutuhan paling dibutuhkan. Sehingga perlu adanya akses informasi yang dibutuhkan untuk mememuhi kebutuhan informasi tersebut. Dengan terpenuhinya kebutuhan informasi orang tua, maka orang tua akan lebih mengetahui cara merawat dan mengembangkan potensi yang dimiliki anak mereka.Kata kunci: Anak disabilitas, kebutuhan keluarga, orang tua. Parents’ Need of Children with DisabilityAbstractThe result of the preliminary study showed that there were parents who felt embarassed with their children’s condition.In addition, there were parents who did not send their children to schools and education and did not know the information related to therapy for children with disabilities. If it was left it could cause serious problems, such as disruption of child growth and the needs of families with children with disabilities. The purpose of this study was to determine the needs of families with disable children in The Association of Families with Disabled Children at Cimekar Village District of Cileunyi Bandung Regency. The research method used was descriptive quantitative with total sampling technique which consisted of 31 families (31 mother and 31 father). The data analysis used was the percentages of the scores of each domain and the average scores calculated by using the minimum and maximum scores (1-3) of each question item of each subneed. The research findings showed that the needs of families with disabled children sorted from the highest to the lowest rate were the needs for information and professional supports had the same percentage 71.0%, the community services were 64.5%, explaining to others was 38.7%, financial needs were 22.6%, child care was 16.1%, and family and social supports were 12.9%. The needs on father from the highest to the lowest rate were that the information was 71.0%, community services were 64.5%, professional support had the same scores 61.0%, explaining to other was 45.2%, finansial needs were 29.0%, child care was 22.6%, and family and social support needs 19.4%. Thus, the needs for information were the most needed in families with disabilities. It is necessary to provide easy information access for the parents in order to fulfill the needs for information. When they are fulfilled, the parents will know more about how to care for their children and develop their children’s potentials.Keywords: Disable children, family needs, parents.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a chronic disease that requires self-management. Self-efficacy of patients with type 2diabetes focuses on improving management education and support services. This study aimed to determine theeffect of diabetes self-management education and support on self-efficacy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitusin Dr. Soebandi hospital Jember. This type of research was a quasi-experiment using a two-group pre-post-testdesign. The research sample consisted of 30 respondents from 15 controls and 15 consecutive sampling groups.Technique sampling used. Inclusion criteria included 1) diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus; the level ofconsciousness is compos mentis; 2) aged 30–65 years. The statistical test used t-tests dependent and independentt-test. Stages there were 6 sessions. Implementation of 1-4 sessions in the hospital and at home 5–6 sessions patients.The results showed that a score of self-efficacy increased by 17:53 in the treatment group and 4.93 in the controlgroup (p=0.001). The results showed that there was a significant difference between self-efficacy, the treatmentgroup and the control group after administration amounted to 10.495 (p=0.001). The conclusion suggests that thereis a significant influence on the self-efficacy of patients with type 2 diabetes in Dr. Soebandi hospital Jember. It isexpected that this study found is a recommended intervention for health workers to improve the self-efficacy ofpatients with type 2 diabetes so as to improve healthy lifestyles, reduce complications, and improve quality of life.

Abstract

Sudden deaths from acute myocardial infarction have been  a current trend of health care problem of Indonesians. This condition may have impacted on the patient’s quality of life. The aim of this literature review was to identify factors that affected quality of life patient after acute myocardial infarction event. This review used a scoping review method. Literature searching was conducted using Google Scholar, Pubmed and Science Direct utilizing keywords: acute myocardial infarction, quality of life and questionnaire. The inclusion criteria were quantitative or qualitative study, peer-reviewed, published in 2008 – 2018. There were 18,035 papers retreived, only 19 papers met the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using content analyses. The findings of this study indicate that the quality of life of patients has decreased after experiencing acute myocardial infarction. Quality of life is influenced by 5 major factors, namely biological factors, emotional factors, physical factors, social factors and psychometric factors.  There are 5 major factors that are proven to still affect the quality of life of patients with acute myocardial infarction. Further research is needed to determine psychometric factors in influencing quality of life. The instrument that can be used is macnew quality of life after myocardial infarction because it meets the psychometric criteria.

Abstract

Introduction, early detection of cancer is an important action in addressing the high incidence breast cancer cases. The easiest early detection that women could do is breast self-examination(BSE). Previous research indicated a gap between knowledge and behavior towards breast self-examination. Intrinsic motivation is needed by women to perform breast self-examination. This study aimed to identify the intrinsic motivation of women reproductive age in performing breast self-examination in Kebonwaru District Bandung. Methods, this study was a descriptive quantitative study, the study population was women in reproductive ages. The samples were chosen using the simple random technique (n = 344). Data was collected using Intrinsic Motivation Inventory instrument which has been back-translated. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis of frequency distribution and percentage. The results showed that the proportion of respondents who had the high intrinsic motivation and low intrinsic motivation were almost the same (54.1% and 45.9% respectively). The majority of respondents (84% of) had a high perception of importance and usability of BSE. 66.3% of respondents had a perception of suitability and interest along with high competence perception. In addition, 56.4% of respondents had a high perception of effort and choice. However, 57.4% of respondents reported an increased sense of stress and nervous when performing BSE. Conclusion, there is a need to maximize cancer prevention and promotion programs.  For example, health education related to cancer prevention and treatment,  accompaniment, and counseling, and providing information about the importance of early detection.  That information could increase the intrinsic motivation of women to perform breast self-examination so a number of women’s mortality caused by breast cancer could be decreased and breast cancers could be detected earlier.

Abstract

School activities and socialization consume a lot of time for adolescents and leave a little time for adolescents to rest or sleep. Changes in environment, independence and changes in sleep patterns commonly occur for students who undergo pesantren activities, thus affecting the quantity and sleep quality of students. Sleep deprivation is associated with poor sleep hygiene behaviour. This study used descriptive quantitative method with single variable. Sampling technique used at this study is stratified random sampling. This study involved as many as 161 adolescent moslem students at the age of 11-20 years in Pondok Pesantren Darul Hikmah Tanjungmekar Tanjungkerta Sumedang Distric. Data collected by using Adolescent Sleep Hygiene Scale Questionnaire and analyzed by using mean value. The result of this study showed that more than half of the respondents had good sleep hygiene practices (68,3%). There are four aspects of adolescent moslem students sleep hygiene in good category : cognitive/emotional aspect, sleep environment aspect, sleep stability aspect and substance use aspect. Two aspects of sleep hygiene in bad category are in the daytime sleep aspect and bedtime routine aspects. Meanwhile physiological aspect and behavioural arousal aspect have an almost balance values. Monitoring moslem students sleep schedule not to exceed 24.00, providing separate room for moslem study self study, habits of toothbrush before bed, monitoring of cigarette use in cottage environment, not providing tea at dinner time, and monitoring of moslem students activity outside school or cottage Pesantren is a thing that should be attention.Keyword: Adolescent, moslem students, sleep hygiene. Gambaran Sleep Hygiene Santri Remaja Pondok PesantrenAbstrakAktivitas sekolah dan sosialisasi yang dilakukan oleh remaja mengakibatkan banyaknya waktu yang tersita dan hanya sedikit waktu yang disisakan untuk beristirahat ataupun tidur. Perubahan lingkungan, kemandirian dan perubahan pola tidur yang tajam biasa terjadi bagi siswa yang menjalani kegiatan pesantren, sehingga berpengaruh terhadap kuantitas dan kualitas tidur siswa. Kekurangan tidur ini berhubungan dengan buruknya perilaku sleep hygiene. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran 8 aspek sleep hygiene, serta gambaran sleep hygiene berdasarkan latar belakang demografi santri. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif kuantitatif dengan variabel tunggal. Adapun teknik sampling yang digunakan yaitu stratified random sampling. Penelitian dilakukan terhadap 161 santri remaja usia 11-20 tahun di Pondok Pesantren Darul Hikmah Tanjungmekar Kecamatan Tanjungkerta Kabupaten Sumedang. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner Adolescent Sleep Hygiene Scale serta dianalisis menggunakan nilai mean. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sebanyak 68,3% responden memiliki praktik sleep hygiene yang baik. Aspek-aspek sleep hygiene santri yang berada dalam kategori baik terdapat pada aspek kognitif emosional, aspek lingkungan tidur, aspek stabilitas tidur dan aspek penggunaan substansi. Adapun 2 aspek sleep hygiene yang berada dalam kategori buruk terdapat pada aspek tidur siang dan aspek rutinitas sebelum tidur. Sedangkan aspek fisiologis dan aspek perilaku penggugah memiliki hasil yang hampir seimbang. Memantau jadwal tidur santri agar tidak melebihi pukul 24.00, menyediakan ruangan terpisah bagi santri untuk belajar mandiri, pembiasaan sikat gigi sebelum tidur, pemantauan penggunaan rokok di lingkungan pondok, tidak menyediakan teh pada saat jam makan malam, dan pemantauan kegiatan santri diluar jam sekolah ataupun pondok pesantren merupakan hal yang sebaiknya pengurus pondok pesantren perhatikan.Kata kunci : Remaja, santri, sleep hygiene.

Abstract

Generation Z is a generation that has grown in the digital era and is dependent on the internet. One of the features of the internet that is most accessed by this generation is social media. Social media as the information source has a negative impact, especially related to academic processes in the university, namely the learning concentration disorder. Students as part of the Z gene is a population that uses various gadgets (gadgets), so that they are at risk of experiencing learning concentration disorders. The purpose of this study was to describe the level of concentration of learning in students of the Nursing Faculty of Padjadjaran University. This research is quantitative descriptive. The sample was taken using the proportionate stratified random sampling technique from the population of the Nursing Faculty of Padjadjaran University (n = 240). Data were collected using concentration learning questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that 40 students (16.7%) had low levels of learning concentration, 166 students (69.2%) with moderate learning concentration levels and 23 (14.2%) with high levels of learning concentration. The conclusion of this study is that most of the Nursing Faculty students of Padjadjaran University have a moderate level of learning concentration. It is recommended to apply varied methods and learning styles in learning activities so that the level of concentration of student learning can be increased.

Abstract

In Indonesia, thalassemia is a major disease which increases its number every year.  There were 7,238 patients of thalassemia major in Indonesia in 2016. The highest number was from West Java, 3,039 patients. Thalassemia is preventable. The increasing number of Thalasemia patients impacted the bigger cost of supportive treatment such as blood transfusion, iron chelation for a lifetime, and the cost of treatment when complications occur. In addition, patient and family also should deal with the psychology burdens. This study was to identify parents’ awareness of thalassemia towards thalassemia prevention in a public hospital in Bandung. This study applied quantitative descriptive method. It involved 99 parents of thalassemia children. The samples were chosen using the accidental sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistic. The data were collected using a modification of Thalassemia Awareness Quesionnaire (TAQ). The results showed that the majority of parents 53 (53.4%) had low awareness of thalassemia, and 47 (46.5%) of parents had high awareness. Similarly, the majority of parents had low awareness of thalassemia prevention 58 (58,5%), and only 42 (41,4%) of parents had a high category of awareness. Developing of strategy or program to improve the awareness of parents with thalassemia towards thalassemia prevention is needed. Nurses have a role as a provider and educator of thalassemia health information and prevention.

Abstract

Diet is one of the main factors related to various diseases including Diabetes Mellitus (DM). High carbohydrate, fat, protein, and low fiber diets can increase the risk of type 2 DM occurrence, especially in the patient’s family as a risk group. Previous research on students with DM families in Central Java still had a high-calorie food consumption pattern. The diversity of population, culture, and age may affect the results. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the diet in the family of patients with type 2 DM in the working area of Puskemas (Community Health Center) Garuda Bandung.This research used a quantitative descriptive method by purposive sampling technique. The respondents in this study involved 46 people who were the children of type 2 DM patients in the working area of Puskesmas Garuda. Dietary data obtained from the food record sheet for 3 days and was calculated using Nutrisurvey software in kilocalories (kcal) as the unit of measurement then the results were categorized based on Consensus Perkeni 2015. Data analysis was using frequency distribution.The results showed that 39 (84.8%) respondents in the diet category less than body requirements, 37 (80.4%) respondents in the category of sufficient carbohydrate intake, 39 (84.6%) respondents in the category of excess fat intake, 45 (97.8%) respondents in the category of adequate protein intake, and 41 (89.1%) respondents in the category of less fiber.The conclusions from this study that almost all families of patients with type 2 DM in the work area of Puskesmas Garuda were in the diet category less than body requirement but with the excess fat intake and less fiber. Based on these results, the nurses in Puskesmas are expected to optimize the outreach programs by addressing families of DM patients to make the diet as an attempt to prevent the risk in the family of patients with type 2 DM.Key words: Diet, DM patients’ families, food record. Gambaran Diet pada Keluarga Pasien Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2AbstrakDiet adalah salah satu faktor utama yang berhubungan dengan berbagai penyakit termasuk Diabetes Melitus (DM). Diet tinggi karbohidrat, lemak, protein, serta rendah serat dapat meningkatkan risiko kejadian DM tipe 2 terutama pada keluarga pasien sebagai kelompok berisiko. Penelitian sebelumnya pada mahasiswa dengan keluarga DM di Jawa Tengah masih memiliki pola konsumsi makanan yang tinggi kalori. Perbedaan populasi, budaya, serta usia mungkin akan mempengaruhi hasil. Oleh karena itu, tujuan penelitian ini untuk menggambarkan diet pada keluarga pasien DM tipe 2 di wilayah kerja Puskemas Garuda Kota Bandung.Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif dengan teknik purposive sampling. Responden dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 46 orang yang merupakan anak kandung pasien DM tipe 2 di Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas Garuda. Data diet diperoleh melalui lembar food record selama 3 hari dihitung mengunakan software Nutrisurvey dengan hasil ukur dalam kilokalori (kcal) yang kemudian hasilnya dikategorikan berdasarkan Konsensus Perkeni 2015. Analisis data menggunakan distribusi frekuensi.Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa sebanyak 39 (84,8%) responden dalam kategori diet kurang dari kebutuhan, sebanyak 37 (80,4%) responden dalam kategori asupan karbohidrat cukup, sebanyak 39 (84,6%) responden dalam kategori asupan lemak berlebih, sebanyak 45 (97,8%) responden dalam kategori asupan protein cukup, dan 41 (89,1%) responden dalam kategori serat kurang.Simpulan dari penelitian ini bahwa hampir seluruh keluarga pasien DM tipe 2 di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Garuda berada pada kategori diet kurang dari kebutuhan tetapi dengan asupan lemak berlebih dan serat yang kurang. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, maka perawat puskesmas diharapkan dapat mengoptimalkan program luar gedung dengan menyasar keluarga penderita DM untuk menjadikan diet sebagai upaya untuk mencegah risiko DM pada keluarga pasien DM tipe 2.Kata kunci : Diet, food record, keluarga pasien DM.
