Abstract

The cross and longitudinal section anatomical structure of Aquilaria malaccensis, A. beccariana, A. decipiens, A. microcarpa and Gyrinops versteegii has been studied using paraffin method following Sass (1951) as well as paraderm section and maceration as described in Cutler (1978). The results showed that there were differences in the type of crystal, the number of neighboring cells, the epidermal cells form on upper and lower leaf surfaces and in stomatal index. Further more the differences were also appeared at fingers pith and niche forms. The stomatal index percentage was different significantly with the highest percentage found in A. decipiens 8.47%, followed by A. beccariana 6.73%; A. microcarpa 3.84%; A. malaccensis 3.49% and the lowest percentage was G. versteegiiie 1.60%. Key words: Aquilaria spp., Gyrinops versteegii, plant anatomy, stomatal index

Abstract

At the end of their fertile phase, female under go menopause state where ovaries cease to produce egg cells permanently, causing follicle to stop producing estrogen. The degradation of estrogen concentration in blood has significant undersirable influences on the structure and function of other organs. Some plants believed to have potential estrogenic effect based on several research are herb basil (Ocimum americanum L.) and fennel fruit (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.). This research armed to find out the estrogenic potency and synergic or antagonictic effect of 70% ethanol extract of herb basil and fennel fruit on pre-menopause female rats. Twenty pre-menopause female rats are divide into 5 groups and tested with whitten effect method. Group I as positive control is given peroral ethynil estradiol with 9x10-3g/200g  BB, group II as negative control is given peroral CMC-Na 0,5%, group III is given peroral 70% ethanol extract of basil herb 0,35g/200g BB and fennel fruit 0,0725g/200g BB, group IV is given peroral 70% ethanol extract of herb basil 0,35g/200g BB and fennel fruit 0,145g/200g BB and group V is given peroral 70% ethanol extract of herb basil 0,7g/200g BB and fennel fruit 0,0725g//200g BB. The result shows that administration of 70% ethanol extract of herb basil 0,7g/200g BB and fennel 0,0725g/200g BB gave the most significant effect as compared negative control and better than positive control in the improvement of estrous cycle length, the vascularisation of ovarium and uterus, and the increase in ovarium and uterus weight in female rats. Key words : Estrogenic potential, Herb basil, Fennel fruit, Pre-menopause

Abstract

Hutan mangrove merupakan sumberdaya alam yang penting di lingkungan pesisir, dan memiliki tiga fungsi utama yaitu fungsi fisik, biologis, dan ekonomis (Romimotarto, 2001). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Juli sampai Agustus 2012 di kawasan hutan mangrove Jenu Kecamatan Jenu Kabupaten Tuban Jawa Timur. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi kasus. Tujuan studi kasus adalah memberikan gambaran secara mendetail tentang latar belakang, sifat-sifat serta karakter yang khas dari kasus ataupun status individu yang kemudian dari sifat-sifat khas di atas akan dijadikan suatu hal yang bersifat umum. Daftar pertanyaan kunci disusun sesuai tujuan untuk menjaring data dan informasi dari masyarakat. Penelitian ini menggunakan data primer dan data sekunder. Data primer dijaring secara langsung di lapangan melalui (a) observasi lapangan dan (b) wawancara. Data sekunder diperoleh dari berbagai tulisan dan sumber-sumber data yang relevan dengan penelitian. Manfaat ekosistem mangrove di kawasan Jenu terdiri atas manfaat langsung berupa hasil hutan (kayu bakar), manfaat satwa (“soa-soa” atau biawak, “kusu”), dan penangkapan ikan (kepiting kerang dan ikan); manfaat tak langsung berupa breakwater dan tempat penyedia pakan; manfaat pilihan berupa nilai keragaman hayati ; dan manfaat eksistensi yaitu nilai yang di berikan oleh masyarakat di lokasi penelitian. Nilai Ekonomi Total (NET) hutan mangrove kawasan Jenu dengan luas 3,08 ha pada saat ini adalah sebesar Rp 24.887.887,50/tahun. Nilai tersebut terdiri atas nilai manfaat langsung Rp 11.299.500,00/tahun, manfaat tidak langsung Rp 9.098.077,50/tahun, manfaat eksistensi Rp 4.083.750,00/tahun, dan manfaat pilihan Rp 406.560,00/tahun.  Kata kunci : Hutan mangrove, studi kasus

Abstract

Longan plants (Dimocarpus logan L.) are generally used by the community only for their fruit. Longan leaves contain secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, polyphenols, saponins, and tannins. Flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds and have antioxidant properties that are not heat-resistant, therefore a suitable method is needed for extracting flavonoids, especially methods that do not use heat. Maceration extraction method is an extraction method by immersing simplicia at room temperature, while the Microwave Assisted Extraction (MAE) extraction method is an extraction method using microwave radiation. The study aims to determine the most effective method for flavonoid content of longan leaves using 2 extraction methods, namely maceration and MAE. Determination of flavonoid content was done using Aluminium chloride reagent whose absoption was measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The results showed that the best extraction method to produce the highest flavonoid content in 70% ethanol extract of longan leaves was the Microwace Assisted Extraction method which produced flavonoid levels of 1.32 ± 0,09%.

Abstract

This research was aimed to create aromatic candle, infused with cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmanii) bark essential oil, which is a potential repellant for house fly (Musca domestica).  The distillation of akar wangi samples was carried out at the Spice and Aromatic Research Unit by vapor distillation method for 9-12 hours. The aromatic candles were based on a mixture of solid paraffin and stearin in a 2:8 proportion, respectively, enriched with fragrant root bark essential oils with 5 formulas, namely F1 (placebo), F2 (fixative), F3 (1% essential oil), F4 (2% essential oil), and F5 (3% essential oil).  The repellency test was carried out by inserting 20 house flies in a of 50x50x50 cm container that contains a lighted aromatic candle according to the doses mentioned above, and shrimp scalps located 15 cm from the candle that functions as a bait. The calculated parameters were the hourly number of flies that were allured to the bait for 6 hours, which were related to the candles repellency and the house flys preference of candle. The repulsion ability result were 89.724%, 75.28%, 68.06%, 49.17%, 9.72% for F5, F4, F3, F2, and F1, respectively. The result also showed that the F4 sample was the most preferred sample.

Abstract

Aquaculture of nilem fish needs parent and larvae. The good parent is available from research station with good facilities and management, so it can distribute to farmer by transportation. The important factors that should be notice in transportation process is usage of anaesthetic ingredients to exhilarate fish during transportation process. This research was used nutmeg bean oil contained of miristisin that able to exhilarate. The result of main research showed that the more nutmeg bean oil concentration the more fast nilem fish will be insensible, the lowest concentration (75 mg/l) sensible time of 97,11 minutes while the highest concentration (150 mg/l) showed insensible time of 10,13 minutes. The result of conscious time observation showed that 75 mg/l  resulted conscious time of 17,5 second while 150 mg/l resulted concious time of 740 second. 150 mg/l concentration is the best concentration because it has the fastest insensible time of 10,13 minutes, the longest concious time of 740 second, has hatch value degree and the longest larvae-life and  effective for exhilarate nilem fish. Nutmeg bean oil has influence towards sperm quality, but all of the treatments have the same effect (not significant) towards sperm quality, egg-impregnation degree, egg hatch and nilem fish larvae-life.  Keywords:  nutmeg bean oil,  anaesthetic ingredients in delivery process,  spermatozoa quality for spawning, nilem fish

Abstract

Mustard production in indonesia from 2017 to 2019 had been decreasing year by year, while market demanded for vegetable production had increased.  On the other handed, shallot production in 2017 to 2019 increased, resulting in an abundance of shallot waste.  Natural resources in the form of organic materials and organic waste that exist around farmers and the community in general could been made as organic fertilizer.  Based on this, it was necessary to studied the effectiveness of liquid organic fertilizer (poc) of onion peel waste on the growth of pakcoy plants.  The purpose of this studied was to studied the effect of onion peel waste on the growth of pakcoy.  This studied used an experimental method with a completely randomized design (crd) consisting of 5 treatments and each treatment consisted of 5 replications, so the total number of experimental units was 25 experimental units.  The concentration given to each treatment was p0 (0%), p1 ( 20%), p2 (40%), p3 (60%) and p4 (80%).  Growth parameters observed was number of left, plant height and wet weight.  The results showed that the administration of red onion peel waste had a significant effect on the growth of pakcoy on the three parameters observed.  The optimal treatment for the number of left was p1(20%), plant height p3 (60%) and wet weight p1(20%) Keywords: Liquid Organic Fertilizer, Pakcoy, Shallots

Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare the potential of ethanolic and water extracted of teki grasstuber on   white  male  rat strain Sprague  Dawley  at  two  months of age and ± 200 g of body weight. The rats were divided among four groups. Each group consists of six rats. The  groupswere ethanolic and water extracted  of  teki  grass tuber, positive control group (Paracetamol) and a negative control group (distilled water). Analgesic potency was tested by inducing pain stimuli previously to the animals, in the form of  heat stimuli  by putting it ona hot plate with  the temperature of 55°C. The responses of rats observed were licking and moving or lifting of their legs. Observations  were made for 1 minute, before  and  after  administration  of  pain stimulus at 15, 30, 45  and 60 minute. The results showed that ethanol and  water  extract  at an effective dose of 49 mg / 200 g of BW, gave relatively the same effect as an analgesic or   positive control group. Keywords : analgesic, ethanol and water extract of teki grass tuber, pain

Abstract

In Bogor district as an Indonesian taro central production, recorded that it has almost 57000 ton taro each year in 2008. Bogors taro which is abundant in Bogor is still limited its use. Diversity the use of taro necessary to maximize available resources and make it becoming alternative processed products in market. Carbohydrat content in Bogors taro depends on data from Nutrition Directorate of Ministry of Health in 2008 is 23.79%, the high content of carbohydrate makes taro can be processed to a characteristic food such as tapai. This research aims to knowing type of taros effect to product and optimum fermentation time to make best tapai product. Research method begins with making tapai from three kind of taro, they are bentul taro, mentega taro and sutra taro. Then it fermentated at different time length, 48 hours, 72 hours and 96 hours. After get the best product that liked by the panellist, conducted quality testing seen from moisture, ash content, total fat, protein, pH, reduction sugar, carbohydrate content, alcohol content and dietary fibre. Tapai bentul taro with fermentation length 48 hours is chosen and it use as a remain variable. The result of chemical analysis tapai bentul taro (B1) are moisture 59.27%, ash content 2.11%, total fat 1.78%, protein 2.96%, pH 5.48, reduction sugar 12.13%, carbohydrate 21.94%, alcohol 6.03% and dietary fibre 2.28%.

Abstract

Menopause is a condition in which menstrual cycles stalled due to gland gonadotropin no longer carry out their duties in work affecting the ovaries to produce estrogen. Will halt production of estrogen can lead to osteoporosis (bone loss), kolesterolemia and heart disease. Basil herbs contain chemicals suspected of having estrogenic activity. This study aims to determine the optimum dose estrogenic activity and n-hexane extractof herbs basil (Ocimum americanum L.). animal testing is used 25 female rats were divided into 5 treatment groups. The result showed that all three doses of n-hexane extract of basil herbs have estrogenic activity. The average increase in estrous cycle in groups III, IV and V was 143 hours, 144,6 hours, and 148,6 hours, while the average of scoring against ovarian and uterine vascularitation in group III, IV and V are 2,2; 2 and 2,4. In weighing the ovaries and uterus weights on average in groups III, IV and V are 1,36 g, 1,72 g and 1,7 g. From the above result it can be oncluded that n-hexane extracts of basil herb can cause estrogenic activity with an effective dose of 0,2 g/200g BW. Key words: Basil (Ocimum americanum L.), estrogen wung, n-Heksan
