Abstract

This study tries to analyze the factors affecting students' interest in choosing private vocational high schools in Kediri City, where severe competition in registration continues so that there is a risk of a lack of qualified human resources and sustainable improvement of regional economy. The aim of this study is to find out how educational quality, parental involvement, education costs, major/chosen study subject, and promotion influences students’ intention to register in an institution through cognitive attitudes and affective attitudes. Both the antecedents and consequences of intentions are considered through the application of its components so that it combines two constructs of attitude, namely cognitive and affective attitudes, in order to form a unique research novelty that integrates the Stimulus–Organism–Response (SOR) framework in the context of private vocational education at a regional level where this area has rarely been studied empirically before. Surveys were conducted on 127 ninth graders from a junior high school (ninth grade) and quantitative methods were used. The data were analyzed with the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to validate the proposed structural relationships among variables. The results suggest that major selection and the use of developing strategies have the most influential effects on cognitive and emotional attitudes. Education costs during the enrollment phase also impact students significantly. The findings indicate that meeting students' interest with the study program, providing competitive tuition costs, and leveraging effective persuasive communication strategies for promotion would be critical to gain enrollment in vocational school.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of work motivation, locus of control, and compensation on employee performance through job satisfaction as an intervening variable at the Inspectorate of the East Java Provincial Government. The research employed a quantitative approach using a census sampling technique involving 120 employees and staff members of the organization. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with IBM SPSS AMOS 23.0. The findings indicate that work motivation, locus of control, and compensation have a significant positive effect on job satisfaction. In addition, job satisfaction has a significant positive effect on employee performance. The results also reveal that work motivation, locus of control, and compensation directly and significantly influence employee performance. Furthermore, job satisfaction is proven to mediate the relationship between work motivation, locus of control, and compensation on employee performance. These findings suggest that improving employee motivation, strengthening employees’ internal locus of control, and providing appropriate compensation can enhance job satisfaction and ultimately improve employee performance within government institution. This study contributes to the public sector human resource management literature by addressing the limited empirical evidence on the mediating role of job satisfaction in the relationship between work motivation, locus of control, compensation, and employee performance within a government inspectorate institution.

Abstract

Although WLB has been widely recognized as an important determinant of employee performance, previous studies have reported inconsistent findings regarding its influence on work effectiveness, particularly in the gig economy. Existing research has predominantly emphasized work flexibility, economic outcomes or job satisfaction, while limited attention has been given to explaining whether work commitment and employee well-being strengthen the relationship between WLB and work effectiveness. This theoretical gap remains particularly evident in Indonesia's digital labor sector, where algorithm-driven work systems and flexible employment arrangements create unique challenges for balancing professional and personal life. Therefore, this study investigates the effect of WLB on employee work effectiveness and examines the moderating roles of work commitment and employee well-being among gig workers. This research employed a quantitative associative approach involving JASKU courier employees in Pamekasan, Indonesia. From a population of approximately 125 employees, 95 respondents were selected using probability sampling based on the Slovin formula with a 5% error margin. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and structured questionnaires and analyzed using SEM-PLS with SmartPLS. The findings reveal that work-life balance has a positive and significant effect on work effectiveness (p<0.05). However, work commitment and employee well-being do not significantly moderate this relationship, with significance values of 0.372 and 0.191, respectively (p>0.05). These findings indicate that WLB directly enhances employee work effectiveness regardless of employees' commitment and well-being levels. This study contributes to the WLB literature by addressing an underexplored research gap in the gig economy context and provides practical insights for digital platform companies to strengthen WLB policies that support sustainable employee performance and organizational effectiveness.
