Abstract

Among the many religions in the world, Islam is the only religion that explicitly declares the notion of human rights known as al-Bayàn al-`Alam ‘an Huqùq al-Insàn fi al-Islàm (Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Islam). Therefore, it is clear that Islam truly respects human rights. However, the use of the term "Islam" in the declaration implies that the declaration was based on sharia. Even though the principles of sharia in question tend to discriminate against other religious groups, slaves, and women. This article will explain some of the ambiguities in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Islam and suggest more adequate ideas in the enforcement of human rights campaigns in the Islamic world.

Abstract

This article explores the meaning and existence of Hadith in the fatwa of the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI). In this case the Hadith is not merely as a source of law in deciding a fatwa, but also reflects the basis of an argument about religion. As an influential religious institution, MUI determines a perception of the truth of religion offered to the community. At the same time, the paradigm of religio-centrism seems to prevent the institution from deciding on more inclusive fatwas. Therefore, the criteria of the hadith in the fatwas are based on the Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama'ah. In other words, the fatwa tends to be oriented towards the Shafi'i which is approved by the majority of Muslims in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article examines the ideas of W.B. Sidjabat on the study of religion which is hardly discussed by scholars. Most scholars focus their studies more on the thoughts of Mukti Ali, Rasyidi, and other comparative religious figures, whereas Sidjabat tends to be more objective in building the paradigm of religious science. According to Sidjabat, religion is a neutral scope of study so that a religious researcher must not be subjective in his research and use several methodologies. Likewise with the perspectives used, so the methodology used in religious research will be relevant to the scope of religious studies. Thus, the study of religion aims to build a close personal relationship between religions, foster religious ethics among religious communities, deepen knowledge about the teachings of other religious communities, and stimulate cooperation among religious believers in practice.

Abstract

Every religious person has an equal space for spirituality to exercise, feel, and express his beliefs, but then this faces obstacles such as social class, gender bias, and especially disability. This research elaborates on the concept of an ideal-inclusive Islamic spirituality space in the Qur'an and Hadith, and also the spirituality space for people with disabilities in popular mosques in Yoyakarta. This study uses a hermeneutic approach to the Qur'an and Hadith and descriptive-analytic methods through critical observation and interviews with managers of popular mosques in Yogyakarta. As a result, the concept of spiritual space in the Koran, Hadith, even early Islamic history, has been very 'friendly' for people with disabilities, although historically this effort has been constrained by social factors such as majority-minorities, budget facilities, traditions and established culture. Therefore, the writer tries to classify the mosque into: a public mosque, a mosque towards a disabled person, a mosque with a disability awareness, and a mosque that is friendly to people with a disability.
