Abstract

The research provided a descriptive analysis of six articles published by Magdalene, an Indonesian publication that resonated with feminists, pluralists, and progressive voices, to identify the subtle tactics men used to silence women. The idea of neutrality in language endured a long-standing debate between scholars in the communication field. In the perspective of feminist thinkers, language served a function of sexual division, placing men in domination and women in oppression. Women were constrained by a social system governed and communicated through a language that did not represent their experience and perspective. Men’s language denied and negated women’s authenticity. Women were only authentic when their voice was narrated by the language unfamiliar to the scream of their anguish and struggles. The language was not only a medium of expression but also a method of silence. In order to resist oppression, one must be critical of the technique men use in silencing women. Using silence methods from Muted Group Theory provided by Cheris Kramare, the research finds that silence dominantly occurs in the form of violence. The overlap of silence methods is mostly followed by censorship towards women. In one case of sexual harassment towards a female university student, the educational institution is considered the embodiment of patriarchal social construction for coercing silence to victims and doubling its function as sources of knowledge and sexual harassment perpetrators. Lastly, another finding suggests that men who strongly associate with feminist traits and whose sexual identification is against the dominant masculine norm are also disempowered.

Abstract

The research aimed to describe and identify the religious value contained in the poetry of Bangilun dance and its pedagogical relevance. Religious values were character values related to divinity: they were the basis of thought, speech, and deed. This value could be found in traditions such as the Bangilun dance as a manifestation of local wisdom. The research applied a the descriptive qualitative method. Data in the research were Bangilun dance poems that contained religious values. The data sources were informants, Bangilun dance poetry notebooks, journals, and books related to the selected topic. Data collection was done by using documentation, observation, and interview techniques. Data analysis technique used the content analysis method. The results show that form of religious values found in Bangilun poetry is a form of human relationship with God, while the pedagogical relevance is the Bangilun dance poetry can be used as teaching material in schools by including it in all school activities (extracurricular and intracurricular), integrating it in all subjects at all levels of education, and cooperation of all elements (school, parents, and society).

Abstract

The research aimed to comprehend the guidance given to inmates to build their mental, good morals, and to be able to absorb positive values of life demands based on the values, norms, and morals implemented in society to prevent recidivists. The problem formulation was how the forms of development of inmates in the Kendari Class IIA Prison of Correctional Institution prevent recidivists. The research was conducted at Kendari Class IIA Prison of Correctional Institution. Descriptive research and a qualitative approach were implement. There were three informants and respondents: the Head of the Kendari Class IIA Prison, the Head of Class IIA Kendari Prison Development, and the Head of Community Guidance and Care of Class IIA Prisons in Kendari, and 30 inmates as respondents and recidivists. The data were collected by conducting library research and field research that consisted of observations, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The results reveal that the forms of guidance for inmates in Kendari Class IIA of correctional officers to prevent recidivists are religious awareness building, intellectual capacity building, legal awareness building, and integration with the community (social). Applying a guidance pattern for the inmates is expected to be a part of the tools for correctional officers, especially for those who work in correctional institutions.

Abstract

The aims of the research were to describe the Ulur-ulur traditional ceremony, the procession, and the values of local wisdom in it. The research applied a qualitative study using a snowball sampling method with passive participant observation techniques and interviews. The researchers conducted in-depth interviews with note-taking and one-on-one interview techniques, namely by asking questions to the informants one by one and then recording the answers from the informants. The data validated by the source triangulation method were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman research method which included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research result shows that (1) the Ulur-ulur ceremony is one of the rituals that manifests the residents’ gratitude for the abundant water sources for the residents’ rice fields. (2) Ulur-ulur traditional ceremony procession consists of the preparation stage, jodhang procession, jamasan of Dewi Sri and Jaka Sedana statues, prayers and kajat, sowing flowers, and closes with a typical art performance of Tulungagung regency. (3) The practice of Ulur-ulur traditional ceremony has local wisdom values: religious, social, educational, historical, and economic values.

Abstract

Deriving from basis of the social identity theory and its development, the research aimed to explore the points of exclusion and how individuals and groups perceived themselves as experiencing victimhood of social injustice. The rise of intolerance in Indonesia was alarming and threatened the diversity and inclusivity of the nation. Throughout several political milestones such as gubernatorial and presidential elections, identity had been used as one of the most efficient ways to segregate and discriminate against people belonging to different groups. Applying a qualitative approach, data were mined from two focus group discussions of university student respondents with various religious and ethnic backgrounds representing the majority and minority groups in Indonesia. Groups sessions were strictly differentiated between majority and minority representatives to minimize the risk of potential conflict. The findings suggest that both groups’ initial perceptions towards members of outgroups are heavily influenced by transferred stereotypes and prejudices from the older generations. While the majority group struggles to counter the prejudices and perceived victimhood through direct exposure, the minority group, on the other hand, takes language into account as a subtle gesture of exclusion.

Abstract

The research aimed to explore the relation of work-home and home-work interactions on employees’ psychological condition while working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic had led various organizations to implement work-from-home measures. This rapid change in working arrangements might affect employees’ psychological condition as they navigate both their work and home responsibilities at the same time and place. The research involved 2.288 employees at one government institution in Indonesia. Data were collected in April 2020, using the web-based tool Survey Monkey. The data were analyzed by logistic regression analysis. The results show that Negative Work–Home Interactions (NWHI) are significantly associated with psychological meaningfulness and psychological safety, while Negative Home–Work Interactions (NHWI) are significantly associated with the three psychological dimensions. Positive Work–Home Interactions (PWHI) are significantly associated with psychological safety, while Positive Home–Work Interactions (PHWI) are significantly associated with the three psychological dimensions. Based on the results, it can be concluded that positive and negative experience that happens at work spill over to the home domain and vice versa, which could, in turn, impact on employee sense of meaningful, safety, and sense of having the physical, emotional, and psychological resources to perform tasks at work during working from home. Therefore, organizational support is important in maintaining employees’ psychological condition while working from home during the pandemic.

Abstract

The research addressed a psychological orientation of young people towards politics (Psychological Orientation towards Politics/POTP). It focused on three primary variables: Political Efficacy (PE), Political Interest (PI), and Political Knowledge (PK) in relation to gender identity (male and female), ethnicity (Tionghoa & non-Tionghoa), and educational background (socio-political science and non-socio-political science). As a young democratic country, Indonesia faced various challenges while pursuing robust democracy like another developed country. One big challenge faced by Indonesia was related to the awareness of political participation, the most central element for a democratic country where people must be aware that they have legitimate power. To overcome these challenges, investigation on variables related to psychological dimensions of humans was needed to start developing a behavioral map of political behavior in Indonesia, particularly concentrating on young people as the next generation of Indonesia democracy. Data were collected from the online panel. Results from descriptive statistics and linear regression models with three blocks have shown that these three variables have played an important role in determining POTP in young people. PK is the most affected variable compared to the other two variables. In conclusion, the identification of ethnicity (Tionghoa vs. non-Tionghoa) and educational background are possible factors that may affect the degree of POTP in the female group.

Abstract

The research was inspired by accounting students’ failure to put their knowledge in line with their career choice in the accounting field, which in turn became a concern to higher education providers and accountant associations to be solved. The research aimed to discover accounting students’ intention to be an accountant in accounting education in Indonesia. Data were gathered through a survey with questionnaires involving accounting undergraduate students of both universities and colleges of private and govern as of vocational education in Indonesia. The 311 collected questionnaires were analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS). The research proves that the learning environment is the main factor influencing students’ intention to pursue their careers in the accounting field. The learning environment as an external factor can alter either perception or perspective of accounting students concerning the accounting profession, affecting students’ intention to pursue a career in the accounting field. Another finding of the research is that perception of students’ beliefs built through interaction and experience of the learning environment elements can affect their satisfaction and intention to pursue a career in the accounting field.

Abstract

The research aimed to explore the implementation of the war on drugs program in the municipality of Alfonso Lista, Ifugao. The research utilized descriptive qualitative research design to determine the interrelated factors affecting the implementation of the war on drugs program, setbacks encountered by the implementers thereof, the mechanism employed to counter the challenges in its implementation, and the suggestions for efficient implementation. Thematic analysis was used to determine the themes derived from the interview. The barangay chairmen, community members, church and educational officers, Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel, and Local Government Units (LGU) officials served as the key informants through purposive sampling technique. In addition, the researchers wanted to venture on the binding foundation program or a localized war on drugs program, which would significantly predict support for the anti-crime and anti-drug campaign as encountered by the police officers, LGU officials, and the community in the municipality of Alfonso Lista, Ifugao. Given all these, the result of the research relatives to the factors and setbacks encountered by the police officers, LGU officials, and community, including the mechanisms employed among them to counter the challenges in the implementation of the war on drugs program, will be the basis in crafting a localized war on drugs program.

Abstract

The research intended to develop an ideal learning module using constructive alignment theory on Project Managerial course. It seemed difficult to draw firm conclusions about constructivism due to the various interpretations both pedagogically and epistemically. The mixed-method was used to survey 56 students participating in the Project Managerial course. Moreover, qualitative methods were implemented for deeper analysis. The methods provided an overview of the students’ level of understanding of the material, what they can do at the end of the lesson, as well as learning activities that can help students be actively involved in class. It was also to find out whether students have achieved the expected outcomes. The results prove that students’ understanding of the Project Managerial course is good, with an average score of 59,80 before the test and 85,88 after the test (n = 56). Students’ feedback shows that group assignment remains lacking of students’ participation with an average value of 3,4. In every relationship between the client and the designer, there are more or less the same systematic phases so that the results can be consistent. Different designers may have different terms. The research provides a big picture of the ideal design project management pattern. Whatever term is used later, of course, every successful design project must be managed properly and consistently.
