Abstract

This writing is based on a fieldwork research conducted in 1993 in the village of Bayan, Bayan sub-district of West Lombok regency. In general it discusses on the proliferation of Islamic teaching in Lombok. It is unique that the process of Islamisation in Lombok has created two segments of the Sasak society into the Wetu Telu and the Waktu Lima. The Wetu Telu are the Sasak who, although acknowledging themselves to be Muslims, still believe strongly in the ancestral animistic deities as well as anthropomorphized inanimate objects. In other words, they are pantheists. The Waktu Lima, on the other hand, are those Sasak Muslims who follow more strictly to the standardized Islamic rules (syari’ah) as prescribed by the Qur’an and the hadith. This reality had instigated some leading figures, the Tuan Guru, to Import pure Islamic teachings. The Tuan Guru’s religious activity, called misi dakwah has intensively entered into various Wetu Telu areas to purify Islam from what seems to them animism and other diverse local cultural practices which are pre-Islamic. This activity has been successful in converting many Wetu Telu villagers all over Lombok to be stricter Islamic proctitioners or the Waktu Lima. If the earlier dakwah led by Tuan Guru was characterized by the use of miracles, the more recent Islamic mission, especially since in the beginning of 20th century, is marked by the cooperation of Tuan Guru with local government authorities, and other international organizations. Such cooperation has increased the quality of the dakwah. Dakwah not only seeks to improve the religious affiliation of the Wetu Telu, but at the some time is also intended to improve the living standard of the people in all aspect of life.

Abstract

Keywords: Minahasa, cooperative system, mutual help.

Abstract

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) has proclaimed Salt Self-Suficiency since 2011 and established Salt Producing Community Empowerment Program (PUGAR) under the Directorate General of Coastal Marine and Small Islands (KP3K) to support it. This article was based on a research conducted in Sampang and Sumenep Districts from February to August 2012. Data was collected by using purposive sampling and analysed by descriptive method. Climate gives huge contribution to salt production because the process uses evaporation techniques onto salt ponds that depends on the weather and climate. Rainfall is one of the decreased of elements that influence salt production. The research shows that without an adaptation strategy, the rain might cause significant reduction in salt production. In addition, strong winds and hurricanes destroy the indmills and salt warehouses; tide high waves damages the ponds; and soil abrasion will reduce the number of salt ponds. This research recommends an adaptation strategy based on the knowledge about climate that can be used to forecast the volume of salt import and to determine the time frame and the amount of PUGAR needed. Keywords: climate impact, salt farmers, dry season, forecasting, adaptation strategy.

Abstract

Abstract

Coastal villages in eastern Indonesia have food diversity. Public consumption of staple food consisting of a mixture of rice and tubers, and bananas, which are cooked separately. Food habits indicates the diversity of food, has become a tradition and a part of the culture. This Food habits and food diversity in addition to support food security, also serves to keep the balance of nutrition. Food habits and food diversity owned coastal communities can be used as a model for the implementation of the diversification policy of food and nutrition balance for the community. Due to this movement launched by the government to diversify the food center has not shown tangible results, especially in Java, whereas in other parts of eastern Indonesia has a culture of food habits and food diversity practice is good. In that context variable ecosystems changes (ecological typology) and social typology is important to consider. While the conclusions obtained, the staple food habits mixture has reduced dependence on rice, and fish consumption and nutrient intake of protein is essential. Keywords: foodhabits, diversity of food, coastal community and food security.
