Abstract

This research was based on the poor state of students’ learning activities which results on the poor learning competence they had. The objectives of this research were to determine the process of  improvement of the  learn activities and competence of grade VIII A students of SMPN 4 Tandun, regarding their knowledge, attitude, and skills, through The Implementation of Stuctured  Inquiry Model by Using LKPD.This research was conducted in two cycles each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection which were started by doing the initial reflection before the first cycle. The subjects of this research were 22 grade VIII A students of SMPN 4 Tandun. The research suggested that there was an improvement in students’ activities and competence after the learning structured inquiry model by using LKPD was implemented.

Abstract

Biology is a subject that requires a lot of understanding of the concept. Because in learning, student are faced with many complicated concepts. To present complicated into simple consept and learning more meanigfull and easily understood by student, one way is through the medium of learning. This research aims to produce interactive multimedia on materials organ structure and function of human for students class XI SMA valid, practical, and effective. This research is the development  research. This research use Plomp model development which stands for preliminary investigation phase, design phase, realization/construction phase, test, evaluation, and revision phase and also implementation phase. The data required to determine practicality was obtained from the observation and practicality sheet of the teacher and students. Then, to know the effectiveness of the data, it was obtained from the activity and the motivation of the students. The result could be seen from the validation average is 85 %. The percentage of practicality consists on: (1) practicality sheet of  multimedia by the teacher is 91,6% , (2) practicality sheet of multimedia  by the students is 90,25%. The effectiveness of multimedia can be seen from the students activities and motivated. The students activitiy sheet show average 90,4 % and the motivation all students to study is 92, 2%.  In conclusion, the research on the multimedia on materials organ structure and function of human  for the eleventh grade students of SMA  has validity, practicality and effectiveness.

Abstract

Teacher as one of component in learning plays an important role to create a learning process such that students can understand the learning well. One way in presenting the material is by using module which is appropriate with students’ characteristics. Through module, students can learn based on their own ability in learning. Module can be used for biology lesson. To facilitate students in understanding the biology lesson which is rich in concept, it takes an approach that focuses on emphasizing the learning concepts, namely concept approach. It is intended to avoid misconceptions of the learners. For all concepts can be mastered by the learner as a whole, it is needed a media summarizing all the material so that it can help students memorize key concepts, namely mind map. The result of study is description of the concept approach-oriented biology lesson modules completed with mind map for 8th grade of Junior High School at the system of plant life.

Abstract

The research aims at producing module containing caracter education which are valid, practical and effective. The research was development research by using 4D models, namely 1) define (specify material) 2) design 3) develop 4) dessiminate (spread). The research only conducted until develop stage due to the limitation of time, fund and power. Subject trial to develop the module was XI grade student at SMAN 2 Padang. The reason for choosing the subject was the pilot schools suit the researcher's need and the school didn't use the module yet. Result module validity development which achieved 78,70% meaning that the module was valid to be used. Average module practicalities that achieved 87%  meant that the module was practical. Average student's practicalities achievement were 86,76% and also considered that it was practical to be used in learning process. Averages tudent's activity achieved 74,4% from five categories observed and it meant that students were active in learning process. Cognitive assesments of test result showed that there were 92% students can solve the problems. Result product module character building education in human reproductive system in XI grade senior high school valid to be used, practical, effective.

Abstract

This  study   aimed  at  analyzing  the  quali ty   of  the  laboratories  provided  in  the schooland the obstacles  faced  by the  school  in  facili t at ing the students to do practical act ivi t ies  ingrade VIII  at  School  in  Kecamatan  Lubuk Begalung  during  the  first  semester  in academicyear  2014/2015.  This  study   was  a descript ive  study   in  which  both  of  the  quali tat ive andquanti tative  approaches  were  used  as  the  data  collect i on  techniques.  This  study  was done  in  Grade  VIII  at  j unior  high  school  in  Lubuk  Begalung  during  the  fi rst  semesterof2014/2015.    The data    and    the    data    sources    in    this    study    were    taken    from    the program planning,   the implementation,    the practical    evaluat ion,    and    the    obstacles    of practical act ivi t ies  for  Biology  class.  Data  about  the  planning  was  taken  from   the  lessonplan  score list and  interview.  In  addit i on,  data  field  notes.  Moreover,  the  data  about  the obstacles  faced  by the teachers  in  facili tat ing  the students  with  practi cal  act ivi t ies  were derived  from   teacher questi onnaire  and interview.  Meanwhile  the    difficult i es faced bythe  students were  also known  from   the  student  questi onnaire  and  interview.  The  resul t sof  the  study   indicated  that the practical plans  showed moderately  compatibili ty wi t h the curri culum available. It was found  that  there  were  teachers  who  had  not prepared  for  thepractical in the  form  of  specific lesson  plans  and  practi cal  guide  materials  or  books.  In  theimplement ati on,  it  was found  moderately.  Related  to  t he practical  evaluat ion,  there weresome  teachers  who  still  had  not  known  the  evaluation  strategies  for  practicum  act ivi t ies.Besides  that,  there were  also  some obstacles  in  the  implementation  of  the  practicalactivi t ies.  Some of  them  were  the  t ime-  all ocat ion  management  for  practical act ivi t ies, teacher controls, and  inco mpleteness of the tools and practical materials.

Abstract

Biology competence of students grade XI science in senior high school 1 Sungai Tarab is still low because the teacher has not used an apropriate learning model 2013 curriculum-based yet. It makes students felt difficult to understand the concept, less-motivated, less active in the class, shy to ask, and give opinion. The characteristics of the topic should be considered in choosing a model which suits to the concept and princip of the topic. Based on the overview on the characteristics of the topic, Guided Discovery Learning an Problem Based Learning models can be used in teaching and learning processes. Therefore, this research is conducted related to the comperative study of biology competence of XI MIA students between Guided Discovery Learning and Problem Based Learning models in the topic of digestion system. The purpose of this reseach is to find differences between biology competence of the students who use Guided Discovery Learning model and the ones who use Problem Based Learning model in the topic of digestion system in senior high school 1 Sungai Tarab students grade XI science the academic year 2014/2015 Type of the research was quasi experimental research with The Static Group Comparison design. The population was three classes of the XI MIA senior high school 1 Sungai Tarab in the academic Year 2014/2015 and the sample which using Purposive Sampling technique was XI MIA2 as the first experimental class and XI MIA3 as the second experimental class. Instruments used were objective test and observation sheet. Data analysis used was t test with criteria: if tcount>ttable, hypothesis was accepted and vice versa (cognitive aspect), and u test with criteria: if Zcount>Ztable, hypothesis was accepted and vice versa (affective and psychomotor aspect). Data analysis of cognitive aspect in a significant rate (α) = 0,05 with dk 37 was tcount= 3, 0749 >ttable= 1, 6905, the hypothesis was accepted. So did affective and psychomotor aspect, Zcount= 1, 756>Ztable= 1, 6905 (affective) and Zcount= 1,8820>Ztable= 1, 6905 (psychomotor), the hypothesis was accepted. The results indicated that the students’ biology competency were significantly different between Guided Discovery Learning and Problem Based Learning model. Students’ biology competency using Problem Based Learning model was better than Guided Discovery Learning model.

Abstract

  The learning process in class VII5 of SMP Negeri 14 Padang was not able to create a condition as it was expected yet. The student’ activities in asking questions, answering questions, taking note on the learning materials, paying attention to the teacher’s explanation, discussing, presenting, expressing ideas and completing the Student Worksheet as well as their achievement in learning were still low. This research was designed for describing the improvement of the students’ activities and Biology learning achievement through the use of Think Pair Share cooperative learning model accompanied with Student Worksheet in class VII5 of SMP Negeri 14 Padang. This is a classroom action research. The subject of the research is the student in class VII5 of SMP Negeri 14 Padang registered in Academic Year 2013/2014 that consisted of 32 people. This research was conducted reflecting. The Instruments of the research were observation sheet and the students’ learning achievement. The data was colled through observation and learning achievement test. The data of the research was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of the research indicated thet the use of Thin Pair Share cooperative learning model accompanied with Student Worksheet could improve the student learning activities in which the student’average score in the first cycle was 70,33% and in the second cycle was 91,8%. In addition, making use of Think  Pair Share cooperative learning model accompanied with Student Worksheet could improve the students learning achievement in which the students’ average score in the first cycle was 74,19% and in the second cycle was 86,6%. Based on these results, it was concluded that there was an improvement on the student’ activities and learning achievement in class VII5 of SMP Negeri 14 Padang after Think Pair Share cooperative learning model accompanied with Student Worksheet applied. Abstract

Biology is one of the subjects that requires skills and students’ understanding of concepts related to natural surroundings. In biology, subjects are required in to develop their potentials in finding the concepts in the subject matter. The teacher as facilitator of learning is responsible for the provision of instructional media in the form of teaching materials that will be used by students. The instructional materials used must be in accordance with the needs and characteristics of the students as well as to provide convenience for students in studying learning materials. One effort that can be done is by the use of contextual teaching and learning with mind maps on the system in plant life topics for students in grade viii of junior high school. The module is an instructional materials that contain materials in a systematic and purposeful that the modules can lead students to be able to learn independently. This research aims to produce a module-oriented contextual teaching and learning equipped with valid, practical and effective mind map. This type of research is the development of research. The model and the procedure of development uses 4D models comprising the step of define, design, develop. Data collection instruments used in this research is the validation module sheet, questionnaire practicalities for teachers and students,  effectiveness, student activities and student learning out comes of cognitive, affective and psychomotor. The design of the module has been designed and validated by experts and practitioners later in the trial limited to the class VIII2 of SMPN 22 Padang. The results showed that the modules developed are very valid, very practical and very effective. The average value of validation module if 86.7%, the average value of the practicalities is 90.4%; the testing of the effectiveness of the module can be seen from the students’ activities and students’ competencies. It can be concluded that the module oriented the contextual teaching and learning equipped mind maps on the material systems plant life for junior high school grade VIII is valid, practical and effective.

Abstract

The function and purpose of national education is not only to develop the academic skills, but also to form the characterized generation in the future. To realize these it is important develop learning instruments that can support students' character development. So far, teachers are not able to develop learning instruments in accordance with the criteria and conditions of the school and students. This research has purpose to develop the learning instrument of Biology-with character and guided discovery approach for teaching material and worksheet on animal tissue materials for grade XI Science SMA / MA that are valid, practical, and effective. Learning instruments was developed by using a four-D models. Data collection was done by the validation and testing for the instrument that be develope. The design of the instrument that has been designed, validated by three experts and practitioners then tested on a limited basis in the Class XI IPA MA Kampar Timur to know the practicalities and effectiveness of the instruments had been developed. From the results of research conducted in mind that includes lesson plans, Teaching Material and worksheets are on valid category. Based on limited testing, known to its appropriateness in the category of good. The response of teachers and students after using this learning instruments showed positive results with an average response is valid. Observations of student activity enough. Assessment of the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor indicate mastery beyond the minimum. Conclusion of research is the study of biology-oriented character education with guided discovery approach to animal tissue materials for class XI Science SMA / MA is valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

One aspect in learning that is related with the quality of learning is the availability of materials for students in learning process that assist students learning material independently. One of materials which can help students lead to independence learning is module. Through module, students can learn based on their own ability in learning. Module can be used for biology lesson. To facilitate students in understanding the biology lesson which is rich in concept, it takes an approach that focuses on emphasizing the learning concepts, and can apply in daily activity namely CTL approach map concept. The result of study is description of the CTL approach biology lesson modules equipped with map concept for 11th grade of Senior High School at the human regulatory system and human reproduction system material.
