Abstract

Biology is one of the subjects related to nature. Biology subjects covered in the various processes that occur in living things in everyday. Therefore, students are required to engage students actively in the learning process. The Students are expected to find material that is learned and relate it to real life situations, thus encouraging students to be able to apply them in everyday. One of the efforts to bridge the activities of students in the learning process is through the module-oriented approach to character education CTL charged with a mind map. This research aims to generate CTL oriented biology teaching modules loaded with character education mind maps on the matter of human organ systems for VIII grade students of SMP/MTs valid, practical and effective. The research is the development of the use of four-D-models comprising the step of defining (define), the design (design), development (develop), and the spread (disseminate), but the deployment phase is not done. Define phase consists of the analysis of the curriculum, students' analysis and concept analysis. At the design stage to design learning modules loaded CTL biology oriented character education with a mind map. At this stage of develop validated by lecturers and teachers,the practicalities test  of the module, and the effectiveness test of the learning modules loaded CTL biology oriented character education with a mind map the VIII grade students MTsN Tanjung Aur Bonai. The results showed an average validation module (91.58%), the average test the practicalities of modules by teachers (90.10%), the average test the practicalities of modules by students (83.37%), and the effectiveness of the module can be seen from the activity and student learning outcomes. It can be concluded CTL oriented biology teaching modules loaded with character education mind maps on the matter of human organ systems are valid, practical and effective.

Abstract

Biology is a subject directly related to everyday life and requires an understanding of the concept. Therefore, the learning process requires a biological approaches, strategies, methods, and media-related learning with the real world so that students can understand the concepts and learning becomes more meaningful. One of the learning strategies that can help the understanding of the concept as well as activities to direct and stimulate students' thinking is through the use of learning modules accompanied concept map. The aims of this research is to develop a module oriented science technology society on the topic of biotechnology. This Biology Module developed using 4-D models. The results shows that, the modules are very valid with a value of 81.09%. The value of practicalities by teachers are 82.7%, and the value of practicalities by students are 85.5%. The effectiveness of the module can be seen from the motivation of students, activities, and student learning outcomes. It is concluded that the biology module oriented science technology society (STS) accompanied concept map on the topic of biotechnology for junior high school was valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problems found in the preliminary observation done at SMAN 2 Koto Baru Kabupaten Darmasraya. From the observation it was known that the learning process was mainly teacher-centered, the students were less active in learning, unwilling to ask questions and had low previous knowledge. This research was aimed at revealing the effect of using Listening Team active learning strategy and previous knowledge on the students’ learning achievement in Biology in class X of SMAN 2 Koto Baru Kabupaten Dharmasraya. This was a quasi experimental research which used factorial design. The population of the research was the students in class X of SMAN 2 Koto Baru Kabupaten Dharmasraya. By using purposive sampling technique class X5 was chosen as the experimental class and class X1 as the control one. The experimental class was treated by using Listening Team active learning strategy while the control class was taught by using conventional method. After the treatment given, an evaluation on cognitive aspect was given to both classes. The result of the research revealed that 1) learning achievement of the students taught by using Listening Team active learning strategy was betterr than that of students taught by using conventional method, 2) learning achievement of the students having high previous knowledge taught by using Listening Team active learning strategy was better than that of students having high previous knowledge taught by using conventional method, 3) learning achievement of the students having low previous knowledge taught by using Listening Team active learning strategy was better than that of students having low previous knowledge taught by using conventional method, and 4) there was no  interaction between learning strategy and previous knowledge in affecting the students’ learning achievement.

Abstract

The problems encountered in this study were lack of student motivation, students have difficulty understanding the subject matter, initial cavability students are not considered, and learning competence was still low. One of the effort made to evercome this problem is by applying discovery learning model assisted with student worksheet.The purpose of this research was to reveal the effect of using discovery learning model assisted with student worksheet on the students learning competence in biology. This was a quasi experimental research, the sample of the research was the students in class VIII2 as the experimental class and VIII5 class as the control class. The experimental class was treated by discovery learning model assisted with student worksheet and the control one was taught by using conventional learning. The data was collected through a test to measure the students cognitive competence and an observation sheet to see their affective and psychomotor competences. The data obtained was analyzed by using t-test, two ways anava test and Mann Whitney U test. Based on the result of data analysis it was figured out that the learning competence on cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects of the students taught by using discovery learning model assisted with student worksheet was better than that taught by using conventional model; learning competence on cognitive aspect of the students having high previous knowledge taught by using discovery learning model assisted with student worksheet was better than that taught by using conventional model; and there were no interaction between learning model and previous knowledge in affecting the students learning competence on cognitive aspect.

Abstract

This research was aimed at explaining the difference between learning achievement of the students taught by using TPS cooperative model assisted with Mind Map worksheet and those taught by using conventional method viewed from previous knowledge in class X of MAN 3 Kerinci. This was a quasi experimental. The population of the research was the students in class X of MAN 3 Kerinci registered in Academic Year 2012/2013. They were distributed into three classes XA, XB and XC. This research applied factorial block 2x2 design. Based on the result of the research, it was found that the Biology learning achievement of the students taught by using TPS cooperative model assisted with Mind Map Worksheet was better than that of students taught by using conventional method. It could be seen from the students’ average score in the experimental class which was 74,28, and in the control class which was 61,97. Learning achievement of the students having high previous knowledge taught by using TPS cooperative model assisted with Mind Map Worksheet was better than that of students taught by using conventional method  in which the average score of the students in the experimental class was 80,41 and in the control class was 67,81. Learning achievement of the students having low previous knowledge taught by using TPS cooperative model assisted with Mind Map Worksheet was better than that of students taught by using conventional method in which the average score of the students in the experimental class was 67,14 and in the control class was 54,02. There is no interaction between TPS type of cooperative learning that includes Mind Map type of LKS to the Biology student’s learning outcomes.

Abstract

One of materials that creates self-proficiency in learning is module. There are many important things in module that can be used for developing materials appropiate with college students’ needs, one of them is research about reproduction physiology. This research is development research by implementing Plomp models. The research was conducted to know the practicallity of nuanced research result module for college students of Biology Department. The validation of the module is categorized valid for didactic, construction, and technical aspect. The practicality of nuanced research result for lecturers is categorized very practical and the practicality for college students is practical in three aspects: ease usage, useful, and time aspect.

Abstract

Discovery process (scientific work) in biology learning in the form of lab activity is necessary to strengthen the student’s understanding of concepts. This study aims to determine the quality of the biology lab activities (planning, implementation process and evaluation), problems of biology lab activity and causes of failure in biology lab activities class X and XI SMAN 10 Padang in second semester  academic year 2012/2013. This research is a descriptive study combining data collection techniques quantitatively and qualitatively. Data of planning obtained from lesson plan (RPP) assessment sheet and interview guide. Data of implementation process obtained from the observation sheet, record product and field notes. Data of practicum evaluation obtained from the interview guide. Data of practicum problems which includes problems faced by teacher obtained from the teacher questionnaire and interview guide, the problems faced by students obtained from student questionnaire and interview guide and the problems. Causes of failure in lab activities data obtained from the interview guide. Based on this research can be concluded about the quality of planning, categorized as medium in terms of suitability of lesson plan with School Based Curricullum, there are teachers who did not prepare lesson plan and practicum guide and did not plan practicum in accordance with the demands of School Based Curricullum. Implementation process on teacher performance aspects categorized as medium, on student activities categorized as good and readiness of facilities and infrastructure aspects categorized as very good. Practicum evaluation is not based on School Based Curricullum. In doing practicum, biology teachers less constrained at planning, quite constrained at the practicum process and evaluation, while students who followed the practicum is quite constrained in the planning, practicum process and evaluation of the practicum. Cause of failure in lab activities is lack of ability in allocating the time to do practicum in accordance with the demands of School Based Curricullum.

Abstract

The expected competency in Biology lesson requires students to be more  in learning. To achieve these goal, this need good effort from teacher and students. The strategy and learning model that have been used before was not able to improve the students’ activity and learning outcomes. There fore it is on effort to increase the activity and learning outcome of student. This is used to inprove the cases are by application of STAD cooperative learning model with the bowling kampus games. This is a Classroom Action Research(CAR) conducted in threecycles. Eachcycleconsistsoffoursteps: planning, action, observation, andreflection. Research subjectswere25studentsinthe classXI Sciene.2 Grade  of Senior High School Number 1 Tambusai Regency. To gether the data, the researcher used observation sheet to observe students’ activity and Biology test to measure students’ achievement. The percentase technique was used to analyze students’ activities of each indicator. Students’ achievement showed by the number of students’ who passed the minimum standard score achievement criteria and the students’ mean score of the last cycle.Result of data analysis in the first cycle, second cycle and three showed that there is improvement of students’ learning activity of all learning activity indicators. Students activity increase was86,69%. It gave positive contribution on the result of the students’ learning. Number ofstudents who pass theappropriate of KKM increase was88.00%. It can be concludedthat the implementation of STAD by using bowling kampus playingcooperative learning model canincrease the activityandlearning outcomesBiology students in classXI Sciene.2 Grade  of Senior High School Number 1 Tambusai.

Abstract

The biology learning process in class XI of IPA 1 of MAN 2 Kabupaten Tebo, was still teacher-centered. The learning methods which were used less varied. It made the students got low activities and competence in learning. There were still many students who were reluctant to ask questions and express their ideas as they were ashamed and did not understand the learning materials explained by the teachers. This research was designed for improving the students’ activities and Biology learning competence through STAD cooperative learning model accompanied with the Student Worksheet on Problem Solving. This was a classroom action research which was conducted collaboratively between the researcher and the teacher teaching in the class. This was conducted in two cycles in which each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subject of the research was the teacher and the students in class XI IPA 1 of MAN 2 Kabupaten Tebo. The instruments of the research were observation sheet on the students’ activities and learning competence, and a test. The data was collected through observation and a learning achievement test. The data obtained then was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of data analysis cycle 1 dan cycle 2 shows the increase in student learning activity and competence. Learning activities of students increased from 49,26% to 70,97%. Cognitive learning outcomes of students in cycle 1 and cycle 2 also increased. The number of students who completed increased from 75% to 87,5%. Affective learning outcomes of student from 58,28% to75,89% and psychomotor learning outcomes of student from 63,08% to 73,75%. The teacher’s activities improved from 74,95% to 93,31%. In general, it was concluded that the use of STAD cooperative learning model accompanied with the Student Worksheet on Problem Solving could improve the students’ activities as well as their Biology learning competence in class XI IPA 1 of Man 2 Kabupaten Tebo.

Abstract

Biology as a part of science has correlate with the laboratory activities, observations, research, experiment and practice. Curriculum 2013 emphasizes constructivist learning with one of the Graduate Competency Standards (SKL) to Junior High School students are able to define problems, propose and test hypotheses, designing and assembling the instrument, process, interpret, and present data systematically. As one of the effort to achieve the SKL is implementing Guided inquiry-based laboratory activities. The purpose of this study was to produce a valid, practical, and effective lab manual based guided inquiry for high school grade 7th in 2nd semester. The type of this research is the development of research. The lab manual based guided inquiry was developed by using a four-D-models. Define phase is to analyze the curriculum for Biology grade 7th at 2nd semester that related to practical activities, the content structure analysis, students analysis and concepts analysis. At the design phase is done the design of lab manual based guided inquiry approach. At develop phase is done by validation the lab manual and did the limited field-testing. Disseminate phase uncommitted coverage. Data collection instrument used in this questionnaire for teachers and students, students motivation questionnaire, observation of students activity sheets and tests students learning outcomes. Tested practical handbook is limited to 30 students of SMP 2 Tanjung Ampalu in grade 7th. The results of this study is the lab manual based guided inquiry for high school grade 7th in 2nd semester. The lab manual is valid, practical, and effective based on validation sheet and field-testing. Â
