Abstract

Cowrie shells and pork was instrumental in the life of tribes in Papua. Shellfish and pork cowries used as a medium of exchange, dowry, and death rituals. This paper aims to describe the relationship with the coastal areas of the mountainous region of Papua, as well as the influence of Lapita in the mountains. Data collected by literature study and qualitative descriptive analysis. Shellfish and pork cowries were introduced by Austronesian speakers to the indigenous people in the mountains of Papua. ABSTRAKKerang cowrie dan babi sangat berperan dalam kehidupan suku-suku di pegunungan Papua. Kerang cowrie dan babi digunakan sebagai alat tukar, mas kawin, dan ritual kematian. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan keterkaitan wilayah pesisir Papua dengan wilayah pegunungan, serta pengaruh Lapita di pegunungan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi pustaka dan analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Kerang cowries dan babi diperkenalkan oleh penutur Austronesia kepada penduduk asli di pegunungan Papua.

Abstract

Repatriation of the skeletal remains of Japanese soldiers who died during World War II in Indonesia has been conducted since 2009. In 2013 repatriation activities carried out in Biak, West Papua. The purpose of repatriation in 2013 is to identify the human remains that assumed as Japanese soldier. Identification methods follow the protocol of forensic anthropology. The results indicate the identification of mixing between the Japanese soldiers with local residents. Furthermore, we found also subadult human remains. Individualization analysis showed pathological conditions of bone, that also assumed suffered infectious disease (yaws or syphilis). AbstrakRepatriasi sisa rangka tentara Jepang yang tawas selama Perang Dunia II di Indonesia telah dilakukan sejak tahun 2009. Di tahun 2013 kegiatan repatriasi dilakukan di Biak, Papua Barat. Tujuan repatriasi tahun 2013 ini adalah mengidentifikasi temuan sisa-sisa rangka yang diduga sebagai tentara Jepang. Metoda identifikasi sisa rangka mengikuti protokol ke~a dalam antropologi forensik. Hasil identifikasi mengindikasikan tercampumya sisa rangka tentara Jepang dengan penduduk lokal dan adanya sisa rangka anak-anak. Analisis individualisasi menunjukkan kondisi patologis tulang, yang diduga efek dari infeksi penyakit yaws atau sifilis.

Abstract

Economics in the past as the reflections of the economics act such as the activities of food and huntered gathered, fish catching, even farming activities either. To fulfil of their various needs that were also made an exchange activities by barter system. The exchange is the central concept in archaeology, when referring to material goods, to commodities, it’s means much the same as trade. Tradding and economics activitivities that were happened in Pasemah plateau be recognized by the artifacts as the clues of their trading in the past.

Abstract

Especially prehistoric tradition of hunting and gathering tradition has continued until today in Bauzi tribe in Mamberamo Raya. This paper aims to discuss the tradition of hunting on Bauzi tribe, hunting equipment used and the strategy used in hunting. This study is descriptive and exploratory. Data collection was done of the literature study and interviews. Hunting animals is an activity undertaken Bauzi tribe throughout the year. Hunting methods used by individuals that hunt, hunt groups, and hunt groups using dogs. The strategy used in the hunt that is trapping, reconnaissance and attack suddenly, diving and attacked the crocodile in the water. Animal bone as a tool used in everyday life Bauzi tribe. ABSTRAKTradisi prasejarah terutama tradisi berburu dan meramu masih berlangsung hingga saat ini pada suku Bauzi di Mamberamo Raya. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk membahas tradisi berburu pada suku Bauzi, peralatan berburu yang digunakan dan strategi yang dipakai dalam berburu. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dengan bentuk penalaran induktif dan pendekatan kualitatif, serta pendekatan etnoarkeologi. Pengumpulan data yang dilakukan yaitu dengan studi kepustakaan, observasi lapangan dan wawancara. Berburu binatang merupakan aktivitas suku Bauzi yang dilakukan sepanjang tahun. Metode berburu yang digunakan yaitu berburu yang dilakukan individu, berburu kelompok, serta berburu kelompok menggunakan anjing. Strategi yang digunakan dalam berburu yaitu pemasangan perangkap, pengintaian serta penyerangan mendadak, menyelam dan menyerang buaya dalam air. Tulang binatang buruan dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan alat dalam kehidupan sehari-hari suku Bauzi.

Abstract

As Sultan Agung’s reign in the teritory of Islamic Mataram Kingdom occured Pajang’s people mobilization at the centre of the royal government. The presence of Pajang’s people in the Islamic Mataram Kingdom can be seen from politic and economic side. The Pajang Kingdom which is master in early, became gradually fell after the death of Hadiwijaya, and turned into a vassal state of Islamic Mataram Kingdom. This political condition’s change coused pros and contras among the Pajang’s people theirself. This article tries to reveal the history and background of the existence of Pajang’s people at their new place, in the centre of Islamic Mataram Kingdom government.

Abstract

Research on Islamic civilization in Papua has been implemented since 1996. Starting with limited exploration in the area of Raja Ampat Sorong regency. Then proceed in Fak-Fak regency and Kaimana. Study conducted found that the influence of Islamic civilization was stimulated by trade dynamics, especially the Islamic empire in the Moluccas, the Kingdom of Ternate and Tidore. In its development, the kingdom of Tidore absolute power and give a big hand in the formation of Islamic civilization color via satellite countries in the Bird’s Head region along the surrounding islands to colonial entered. Many archaeological remains indication, other than oral sources and the tradition continues. Archaeological remains were found, including the mosques, tombs, pottery, ceramics, religious symbols, and ancient manuscripts. This paper will focus the discussion on three things: (1) a review of Islamic civilization studies conducted Jayapura Archeology, particularly the constraints and problems that still contain the debate to date, (2) the elements of Islamic civilization are essential, such as cultural character and government (petuanan), network scholars, and elements of material culture, and tradition, (3) Islamic cultural traditions inherited colored Muslim communities in certain pockets on the coast. Thirdly it is expected to provide information and research results that will be developed within the framework of the Islamic era in Papua theme.
