Abstract

This research examines social conflict related to the patriarchal culture in Batak Toba society and describes how patriarchal culture discriminates, weakens, and shackles Batak Toba women as reflected in the short story entitled "Nyawa Sisa" by Sebastian Partogi. The writer conducted library research using contextual methods combined with the sociology of literature to analyze the social issues in this short story. The results show how "Nyawa Sisa" reflects that the patriarchal culture indirectly oppresses and discriminates against women. Men dominate women physically and non-physically, both in the personal and social aspects. Men with special privileges often use their power to commit violence against women and make them the second class.

Abstract

This study deals with the influence of intelligence quotient (IQ) towards the speed-reading ability among high school students in Garut. It aims to reveal whether an individual’s IQ influences his ability to read quickly. This quantitative study used correlational description methods. To gather the data, a test and documentation study were applied involving 40 high school students that were selected through probability sampling technique. The results of the study revealed: 1) Spearman correlation test was conducted due to non-normal data distribution, 2) the Spearman correlation test, Sig 0,754 > alfa 0,05, means IQ level had no significant influence towards students’ speed reading ability, 3) Other factors contributing to the result might be related to: students’ interest and motivation in reading as well as students’ reading habit or activities that may distract them such as vocalisation, lips movements, head movements, regression, and sub-vocalisation.

Abstract

The technological advancement in this 4.0 industrial era shifts conventional communication into social media communication. One of the preferred social media is YouTube by most Internet users in Indonesia. Thus, it makes YouTube free to use for every on so that many violations of politeness maxim principles. These violations made researchers eager to investigate with politeness theory of Leech. This research aims to find and identify the violated politeness maxim principle in the Skinnyindonesian24 YouTube channel. The researcher used a qualitative pragmatic approach with descriptive analysis. The data sources were from the conversational excerpt that might contain politeness maxim principal violation in YouTube’s Got Talent Part 1-3. Then, the research data sources were from the conversational excerpt in the Skinnyindonesian24 YouTube channel. The researchers collected the data with an observing technique. The advanced techniques were recording and notes. The data validity included data triangulation or data source triangulation and theoretical triangulation. The data analysis techniques of this research were normative and heuristic methods. The analyses showed some violations of tact, sympathy, approbation, generosity, agreement, modesty, opinion-reticence, feeling-reticence, the obligation of S to O, and the obligation of O to S maxims.

Abstract

Behavioral disorder refers to behavioral deviation from the applied norms in a social system. One of them is - sexual disorder. For some novelists, they also use sexual disorder in their novels. One of them is Ashmora Paria by Herlinatiens. The main character of the novel commits sexual disorder due to some factors. This research focused on the character’s behavioral disorder in the novel. This research describes the sexual disorder of the character and the causes. The applied approach is literature psychology with psychoanalysis theory and semiotic method. The applied data analysis techniques were heuristic and hermeneutic reading. The analysis showed that the behavioral disorder of the character in the novel was sexual disorder. The type of sexual disorder was absolute inversion homosexual or sexual-orientation disorder. Characters that had this disorder were Paria, Rie Shiva, Mahendra, and Mahadevi. They suffered from the sexual disorder due to traumas, frustrations, and pleasant homosexual experience

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze a short stories collection of Mata yang Enak Dipandang that contains a variety of living spaces that grow and develop in a civilized environment. The short story collection had presented various social problems. The social problem was the social dynamics of multiple things that did not follow cultural values or human behavior habits in general. The purpose of this study was (1) to describe the shape of social dynamics that appeared in Ahmad Tohari’s short stories collection of Mata yang Enak Dipandang. (2) to describe the social dynamics problems experienced by the characters in Ahmad Tohari’s short stories collection of Mata yang Enak Dipandang. This research used the sociology of literature approach. Data collection in this study used the study of literature and the first level reading technique, namely heuristics. The method of analyzing data had done by hermeneutic reading. The study results showed that a short stories collection of Mata yang Enak Dipandang contained (1) five forms of social dynamics, namely slow changes, small changes, significant changes, desired changes, and unwanted changes. (2) there were two problems: the increase or decrease of the population and the community conflict in the social dynamics of the collection of short stories from Mata yang Enak Dipandang.

Abstract

Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, features a diverse range of languages. The range of languages spoken by the Bima people in Sambori Village, Lambitu District, demonstrates the presence of bilingual and multilingual speakers. This research aims to investigate the elements that contribute to the survival of the Inge Ndai language in the family realm in Sambori Village. The listening approach was employed in this study. The listening approach employs (1) fundamental tactics in the form of tapping techniques and (2) advanced techniques, namely: listening to free involvement and conversation (SBLC), recording, and taking notes. The equivalent procedure is used during the data analysis stage. The matching procedure is carried out in two stages, namely: (1) a fundamental technique in the form of a determining element sorting technique (PUP), and (2) a more advanced technique in the form of an equalizing comparison technique (HBS). In this study, the outcomes of data analysis are presented in a written report. According to the study's findings, the following elements contribute to the survival of the Inge Ndai language in the family realm in Sambori Village: loyalty factors, language pride factors, awareness factors for language norms, age factors, and work factors.

Abstract

Transportation is a service to help facilitate the activities. One of the means of transportation that can be used as a research object is a taxibike online. This study aims to find the types, functions, and factors of directive speech on taxibike online in Demak Regency. Data collection techniques are listening to techniques with tapping techniques, followed by conversational engagement listening techniques, recording techniques, and note-taking techniques. Types of directive speech found direct directive utterances include direct declarative speech, interrogative mode direct speech, and imperative mode direct speech, indirect directive speech includes indirect directive utterance declarative mode, indirect directive utterances interrogative mode, and indirect directive utterances imperative mode, speech literal directive includes literal direct directive speech and literal indirect directive speech, indirect directive speech includes indirect directive speech and indirect directive speech. Speech functions include the functions of requiring, asking, ordering, prohibiting, giving permission, and suggesting. The speech factors were analyzed and described according to Hymes' theory including setting and scene, participant, ends, act sequence, key, norm, and genre. The dominance of the type of directive utterance that is most found is direct directive utterance with interrogative mode. The dominant function that is often found is the directive utterance of the question function. The dominance of the directive speech factor is the speaker participant factor.

Abstract

The autistic children have limitations in their linguistic development. Those limitations caused by the disorder of phoneme pronunciation and lexicon mastery towards the children. This disorder can have the impact in communication. This research aims to describe the form of phoneme pronunciation disorder and lexicon mastery towards autistic children in Autisma Yogasmara Special School and Griya Shada Semarang as the dorm for children in special needs. This is qualitative research with descriptive method. The data collection technique used in this research note are recording, observing, and taking note techniques. The source of this research is obtained from direct recording of the conversation between the autistic children and their therapist. The analysis method used in this research is direct element review with these several ways: 1) transcribing the data that has been obtained, 2) observing and taking note to the data card, 3) classifying and analyzing data, 4) summing up the result of the analysis. The result of the research shows that autistic children in Autisma Yogasmara Special School and Griya Shada Semarang have communication disorder as the effect from the disorder of phoneme pronunciation and lexicon mastery. The form of communication disorder in autistic children is echolalia which is the effect from disorder of phoneme pronunciation, one way communication, and difficulty in saying one word is the effect from low lexicon mastery.

Abstract

One of the most interesting youtube contents in Indonesia goes to Deddy Corbuzier’s youtube podcast. It is caused by the various guests who are invited and the use of several languages in the podcast when they are doing interaction each other. As a youtuber who masters more than two languages, Deddy Corbuzier has to take an action of language choice in order to the interaction in the podcast flows smoothly. The aim of this research is to describe the form of language choice on Deddy Corbuzier’s youtube podcast. The data collection is done using observation method with observe-involve-free-statement and taking notes techniques. After the data is collected then they are analyzed using determining elements choice technique. Hereinafter, the data is presented using informal method or using words. The results of this research are 1) the form of singular variety language in using formal and informal Indonesian language, 2) the form of code-switching from Indonesian language to foreign language and vice versa, 3) the form of code mixing in words, phrases, idioms, and clauses insertion from foreign language to Indonesian language.

Abstract

Readability is the extent of the problem of the discourse goals expressed using class rankings. in the precept of clarity, especially components of language shape or structure, the better the grade level, the extent of complexity of the reading additionally needs to be elevated. accordingly, the proper clarity of books at each grade level or stage of readers isn't always identical. This looks at pursuits to observe the clarity of analyzing books supporting the Gerakan Literasi Nasional published by using the Kemdikbud in 2018 for excessive faculty students. The clarity of studying books helping the countrywide Literacy motion posted via the Ministry of schooling and culture in 2018 for high college students is critical to study due to the fact its existence includes an assignment of individual constructing. GLN assisting studying books for high faculty students is to be had in printed and electronic shape/PDF. the broadcast version of the book is sent amongst/over faculties, libraries, and studying parks, whilst the electronic version can be accessed at no cost via the authentic internet site of the Language employer. consequently, the affordability and availability of the e-book are enough. proper legibility will maintain the life of the e-book amid the proliferation of virtual/digital e-book reading platforms that may be effortlessly accessed via the internet.
