Abstract

Environmental literacy may lead someone to act more responsibly towards the environment. This study aims to analyze gender differences in the environmental literacy of Islamic-based high school students. Although there have been many studies on similar topics, there is not much research found in the perspective of Islamic-based students, where they practice Islamic spiritual values about environmental sustainability. This study uses a quantitative approach using the multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) method to determine the effect of gender differences on students' environmental literacy levels. The sampling technique used is questionnaire distribution to as many as 53 students at a high school in Central Java who are randomly selected. Three dimensions of environmental literacy are analyzed; namely knowledge, attitudes, and pro-environmental behavior. The results of the analysis suggest that the students' literacy level is in a good category, which is at 80.67%. Islamic values that have been attached to students are believed to contribute to the level of environmental literacy of students. Then, the results also indicate those female students have better literacy levels in all dimensions. However, the results of the analysis found there is not enough evidence to suggest that male and female students differ significantly based on environmental literacy.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the practice of siri marriages and patterns of gender relations in the siri marriage family in Pekalongan City. The theoretical argument that has been developed by the local people of Pekalongan City is that siri marriage is the same as registered marriage. This qualitative research with a gender perspective uses data collection techniques, i.e: observations, interviews, and literary studies. The technique of checking the credibility of the data uses triangulation and analysis using an interactive model. The results showed that the practice of siri marriage in Pekalongan City used a model, ie: performing an akad as a legal marriage, the only difference being the absence of a Marriage Registration Officer; came to the Kiai's house together with the guardian and the witness, and 3) the akad was carried out in secret at the Kiai's house. The causes of siri marriage in Pekalongan City, namely: fear of sin, avoiding adultery, economic hardship, polygamy that is not allowed by wives, a pregnancy outside of marriage, there is no fee for legal marriage and understanding of the meaning of marriage. The practice of unregistered marriage has an impact on women and children. The pattern of gender relations in the siri marriage family in Pekalongan City is in the form of a pseudo-vertical-hierarchical relationship pattern, where the husband has a higher position than the husband's wife has the power to regulate and make decisions in the household (subordination), but the roles, functions, and responsibilities of the husband do not implement optimally, or there is a deviation of roles, functions and responsibilities. Therefore, it is necessary to build awareness for perpetrators of unregistered marriages to create a pattern of relationships that are fair and gender-equal.

Abstract

This paper highlights the strategies and efforts of Paciran women in the productive sphere. Even though women have played an important role in the economic life of the household, in fact, they still bear double burdens, they are still burdened and given household responsibilities. This is of course caused by the domination of patriarchal culture which is rooted in society. Women are considered as others who have boundaries, norms, and subordination of women to men in their environment. As a result, the strategy for selecting women's jobs that places the house as the main place is a real effort to reduce the domination of patriarchal culture. This research was conducted on women who work in Nguplik in a village in Paciran District, Lamongan Regency, East Java. Nguplik is the work of separating the shells or skins of cooked crabs from the meat to be sold and processed into food and cosmetics. Nguplik is carried out by individuals and or groups of women. This study uses a qualitative method with a gender anthropological approach, with the data collection process using in-depth interviews and observations. The finding of this study is the acceptance of women as workers.

Abstract

Violence against women occurs in almost all countries and has become a global issue that is often reviewed and discussed at various seminars. The United Nations defines violence against women as "Any act of gender-based violence that results in or is likely to cause physical, sexual, or mental damage or suffering to women, including the threat of such actions, the coercion or deprivation of liberty arbitrarily, whether occurring in the public sphere and private life. The purpose of this analysis is to determine the effect of sociodemographic characteristics and women's involvement in decision-making in the household on permissive attitudes towards domestic violence in women. This analysis uses the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) data source with the unit of analysis being married women aged 15-49 as many as 35,681 respondents. Data analysis was performed descriptively and inferentially. The logistic regression multivariate test was used to analyze the influence of sociodemographic characteristics and women's involvement in decision making on the permissive attitude of domestic violence to women. The results of the analysis found that several variables influence permissive attitudes on domestic violence in women, namely: the role of women in decision making, age, number of children still alive, education level, access to the internet, wealth quintile, and location of residence. While work status does not significantly influence permissiveness towards domestic violence. Proactive socialization, comprehensive policy, and coordination across related sectors on an ongoing basis are expected to reduce domestic violence in the community.
