Abstract

Abstract—The goals of this study was to determine the effect of alkali concentration in the soaking coconut coir fiber (S2K) to changes in coconut fiber diameter. Stages of implementation of the study are (1) the measurement of the diameter of S2K before soaking, (2) immersion S2K in an alkali solution (NaOH) at a concentration of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% for 3 and 5 hours, ( 3) after being soaked, S2K removed and rinsed with distilled water, (4) was dried in a room temperature of 30±2°C for 5 days, (5) the measurement of the diameter of S2K after soaking with digital microscope. Based on the results of tests performed concluded that (1) immersion in an alkali solution resulted in a reduction of the diameter of S2K, (2) on soaking 5 hours at a concentration of 15% NaOH solution obtained reduction diameter S2K largest percentage of 56.08%. Keywords: natural fibers, the concentration of alkali, wettability.

Abstract

Kemacetan Lalu lintas merupakan suatu keadaan kondisi jalan bila tidak ada keseimbangan antara kapasitas jalan dengan jumlah kendaraan yang lewat. Gejala ini ditandai dengan kecepatan yang rendah hingga terjadinya penumpukan kendaran, jarak antara kendaraan yang satu dengan kendaraan yang lain menjadi rapat, sehingga pengemudi tidak dapat menjalankan kendaraan dengan kecepatan yang diinginkannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan titik kemacetan pada ruas jalan A.P. Pettarani dengan menggunakan teknologi GPS. Manfaat penelitian ini untuk mengetahui titik kemacetan dan penyebab kemacetan disepanjang ruas jalan A.P. Pettarani serta menjadi referensi bagi pemerintah dalam mengaplikasikan penggunaan GPS untuk mengidentifikasi titik macet serta penyebab kemacetan sehingga diharapkan dapat memberikan solusi pada titik – titik kemacetan pada ruas jalan A.P. Pettarani. Metode penelitian ini adalah mendeteksi kecepatan kendaraan selama bergerak di jalan A.P. Pettarani dengan menggunakan fitur penjejakan (tracking) pada GPS yang mencatat perubahan kecepatan kendaraan setiap detiknya. Kemudian data kecepatan tersebut dianalisis untuk mendapatkan titik-titik kemacetan disepanjang ruas jalan A.P. Pettarani yang kemudian akan di perbandingkan dengan kondisi geometrik jalan serta kondisi lingkungan disekitar jalan. Kendaraan contoh bergerak setiap 15 menit pada dua arah arus lalu lintas yang dimulai dari jam 6 pagi hingga jam 22.00 selama satu pekan. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat beberapa titik kemacetan pada dua arah arus lalu lintas di sepanjang jalan A.P. Pettarani yang umumnya ditimbulkan oleh kondisi geometrik jalan serta adanya hambatan samping.

Abstract

On one hand, the particular objective of this research is to yield the software program in order to control efficiently the important aspects in electric power systems which can be implemented in industries. In the other hand, the longterm objective is to extend the curriculum, syllabi, laboratory facilities, and to improve the abilities and qualities of graduates continuously either within State Polytechnic of Ujung Pandang or outside. Method used to achieve these objectives is making, design and implementation which will be last for two years. Simulator for generation system in the first stage of the research is balanced six-phase system yielded from the circuit of 3-one phase centre-tap transformers of 220/18 V, 15 A, as the supply of low-tension 3-phase system, which feeds six one-phase transformer of 18/220 V, 20 A, whose output as another balanced 3-phase system with 220 V/phase. From balanced 6-phase system, a balanced 3-phase will simulate generator number 1 and another balanced 3-phase will simulate that of number 2. Interface which is based on Delphi program is to switch all transmission lines. The result of experiment shows that voltages in the two generator busbars experience the significant drop voltage if they work separately, that are 20.5% - 36.4% and 20.5% - 63.6% for generator number 1 and number 2 respectively, for one to three load busbars operated sequentially, which also reveals that greatest voltage drop occurs in the generator busbar with most lines supplied. Simulating the two generators working simultaneously, then voltage drops are more significant, that are 65.9% - 72.7% and 65.9% - 79.5% for generator number 1 and number 2 respectively, for one to three load busbars operated sequentially, which also proves that transformer bank as generator simulator needs to increase its current capacity.

Abstract

Erosion that occurs in revetment by waves and currents is a serious problem along coastal and inland shore 1. The aims of the study are to obtain influential parameter, to reduce the height of run up in the revetmet and get a non dimensional parameter of the relationship between the wave height and the wave run up on the revetment. The research is an experimental research with 2D physical model simulation, conducted in the laboratory of with some configurations of screen layer breakwater configuration models made from textile fabric with density and number of layer of different models. The model scale was 1:10 with three variations for models ((M1SL, M2SL, and M3SL) with variations of wave length and wave height, on some level of depth: 20, 15, and 10 cm. The results of the research indicated that the parameters found in this study are wave period (T), wave height (H), water depth (d), screen density (), the number of layers (N) and the distanceof the screen (Xm). The run up tend to decrease as the screen density value has smaller number of layers (N) and the distanceof the screen (Xm). In general, the study indicated that the stake of the screen layer can reduce the height of the run up in the revetment structure . The slope tan300 was 33% and produces non regression equation that shows the relationship between the dimensionless parameterwith run up (Ru/H), obtained Ru/H =, where= (); a and b respectively 2.9935 and 0.1293.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of soaking the coconut fiber in alkaline fluid on absorption capability of the coconut fiber on polyester matrix. The coconut fiber is soaked in natrium hidroksida (NaOH) fluid with concentration of 20% for duration range of 1, 3,5, 7, 9 and 11 hours, then dried in room temperature then matrix polyester is given on several parts of the coconut fiber. After dried, wet ability angle is measured using digital microscope to investigate the absorption capability of the coconut fiber on polyester matrix. Every single variable will be examined for three times. Obtained data will be analyzed statistically using discriminative method and will be demonstrated in table form. Based on experiment, soaking of coconut fiber in 20% natrium hidroksida (NaOH) fluid affects on absorption capability of the coconut fiber on polyester matrix. After soaked, wet ability angle is decreased compared to without soaked. The smallest wet ability angle of 15,327o is obtained for 5 hours soak duration.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve theproduction process of brick craftsmen. Brick production processconsists of four stages: printing, drying, burning, and cooling. Ofthe four stages, which will be completed in this research is theprocess of printing bricks. The printing process still uses simpleequipment that is a rectangular wooden beam with a size of 20cm x 10 cm x 5 cm. The printing process includes: preparation ofraw materials by hoeing the soil, making the dough by tramplingto the shape of a paste, printing using a printing tool. For thismethod, for 4 people craftsmen can print bricks as much as 2,000pieces / day (8 hours work / day). The number of bricks is idealfor once combustion of 40,000 pieces. For reach that amount ittakes 20 days. The method applied in improving the productionprocess of brick craftsmen is the application of brick machine.The operation of the brick printing machine requires 4 personswith their respective functions: 1 person to insert the soil into theprinting machine, 1 person to cut the brick bar, 1 person to movethe bricks from the printing machine, 1 person to bring thebricks to the drying place. Based on the result of the test, it isconcluded that by using the brick machine, the dough making iseasier and shorter, the production capacity increased to 6,780bricks / day, the time required for the production of 40,000 piecesof bricks is 6 days.

Abstract

Scouring occurs along the streams and generally increases in their bend areas. This occurence threaten the stability of buildings and facilities built around those areas. This study was conducted by experimental model tests in a laboratory using an artificial channel made of sand with diameter of 0,47 mm and the sand layer density of 1,47 gr/cm3. To assess the effect of river bends on the extent of scours, the water flow was simulated on the artificial channel in 9 times i.e.; 3 variations in the angle of river bends (α) and 3 variations in the flow discharge (Q) for each river bend variation. This study revealed that the volume of scours positively correlated to the angle of river bends. The volume of scours decreased more 20% when the angle of river bends decresed from 60º to 30º. The increase of the flow discharge also enlarged the volume of scours more than 100% at the river bends with small angles

Abstract

Energy audit is an activity to identivy how muchenergy is used as well as the steps that are needed in order toconcerve energy on an energy user facility. PT. Daikin AirConditioning Makassar using air conditioning equipments thatuses electrical energy nearly 60%. This study aims to determinethe used of electrical energy and energy saving opportunities inPT. Daikin Air Conditioning Makassar. Reseacrh is started withprocessing of electrical equipment data for lighting, airconditioning and other electrical equipments data. Researchresult pointed that the used of electric energyin PT. Daiking AirConditioning Makassar is 111.3 kWh/m2 /year and still below thestandart of IKE and can be savingabout 44 kWH/month forlighting system. Recommendations are to perform load balancingeach phase, turn on the light and air condioning only whenneeded.

Abstract

Rice bran oil is the oil extracted from rice bran. This is edible oil that is very good for health so that potential as a functional food, and can be develop the agroindustry. Solvent extraction process is done using n-heksane and ethanol. The purpose of this study was to determine the best ratio of rice bran with n-heksane and ethanol to obtain the highest percentage of the oil. The main ingredient of this study is rice bran, n-heksane and ethanol. The extraction process is done at a temperature of 55° C, 200 rpm for 5 hours. The results showed that the best ratio of bran and n-heksan to produce  the ultimate percentage of oil is 1: 7 that is equal to 7,53%, as well as the best ratio of bran and ethanol to produce the ultimate percentage of oil is 1: 6 that is equal to 8,49%.

Abstract

Mesoporous silica SBA-15 is an interesting material having highly ordered nanopores and large surface area, which is synthesized by sol gel and hydrothermal methods. In this study, mesoporous silica SBA-15 was synthesised with two different methods and the characteris was using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). SBA-15 was prepared TEOS as precursor and Pluronic 123 as surfactant. Thermoporous mesoporous DSC thermogram results of the SBA-15A mesoporous silica is (Tg 79oC and Tc 158oC). This is relatively lower than SBA-15B (Tg 86oC and Tc 158oC). The measurement of low angle X-Ray Diffraction SBA-15A has a crystal size 9.46 nm and SBA-15B has a crystal size 9.96 nm. The synthesis of SBA-15 using the hydrothermal method needs to be studied further to obtain thermal characteristics and a more stable crystal structure
