Abstract

This paper presents a New FOC Approach of Induction Motor Drive using DTC Strategy for the Minimization of CMV (common mode voltage) with the switching tables for the generation of PWM signals. High performance induction motor drives require a better transient and steady state performance. To achieve high performance, there are two control strategies namely, field oriented control (FOC) and direct torque control (DTC) for induction motor drives. Though these two methods give better transient performance, the FOC needs reference frame transformations and DTC gives large steady state ripples. To overcome these drawbacks, this paper presents a novel FOC algorithm for induction motor drives, which combines the principles of both FOC and DTC. The proposed method uses a predetermined switching table instead of a much more time consuming pulse width modulation (PWM) procedure. This approach gives a quick torque response like DTC and gives reduced ripple like FOC. The switching table is based on the conventional DTC principle, which gives good performance with reduced common mode voltage variations. To validate the proposed method numerical simulations have been carried out and compared with the existing algorithms. The simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method. Abstract

This paper presents a new design and performance of single phase permanent magnet flux-switching machine (PMFSM) for electric bicycle application. 8Slot-12Pole design machine were choose by analyzing the highest power density value. All active parts such as permanent magnet and armature coil are located on the stator, while the rotor part consists of only single piece iron. PMFSM have a great advantage with robust rotor structure that make it much higher power and applicable for EV application compared to SRM and IPMSM. The design, operating principles, characteristics of torque, and power of this new topology are investigated by JMAG-Designer via a 2D-FEA. Size of motor and volume of PM is designed at 75mm and 80g, respectively. Based on the investigation, it can be concluded that the proposed topology of single phase 8Slot 12Pole PMFSM achieved the target of highest performance of power density, approximately at 0.113W/mm3 with reduced permanent magnet and size of design motor. Due to the low torque performance of this initial design, further works is ongoing to improve the torque performance. In future work, outer rotor PMFSM structure design will be presented and compared with the “Deterministic Optimization Method” to improve the initial design.

Abstract

This paper proposes a switching control for a cascaded H-bridge inverter structure with reduced switches which is used to improve the THD performance of a single phase five level CHB MLI. The multi level inverter is simulated for the conventional carrier overlapping APOD and the proposed carrier overlapping APOD Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) switching control technique. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output voltages are observed for both PWM control techniques. The performance of the symmetric CHB MLI is simulated using MATLAB-SIMULINK. It is observed that the proposed carrier overlapping APODPWM provides output with relatively low THD as compared to the conventional carrier overlapping APODPWM.

Abstract

The Space Vector Modulation (SVM) technique has gained wide acceptance for many AC drive applications, due to a higher DC bus voltage utilization (higher output voltage when compared with the SPWM), lower harmonic distortions and easy digital realization. In recent years, the SVM technique was extensively adopted in multilevel inverters since it offers greater numbers of switching vectors for obtaining further improvements of AC drive performances. However, the use of multilevel inverters associated with SVM increases the complexity of control algorithm (or computational burden), in obtaining proper switching sequences and vectors. The complexity of SVM computation causes a microcontroller or digital signal processor (DSP) to execute the computation at a larger sampling time. This consequently may produce errors in computation and hence degrades the control performances of AC motor drives. This paper presents a developement of SVM modulator for three-level Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter (CHMI) using a hybrid controller approach, i.e. with combination between the DS1104 Controller Board and FPGA. In such way, the computational burden can be minimized as the SVM tasks are distributed into two parts, in which every part is executed by a single controller. This allows the generation of switching gates performed by FPGA at the minimum sampling time 〖DT〗_2=540 ns to obtain precise desired output voltages, as can be verified via simulation and experimental results.

Abstract

This paper proposes buck-boost capabilities of four quadrant chopper for wide range speed control of DC motor drives using symmetrical impedance network called Z-source network. By controlling the shoot through duty ratio from 0 to 0.5 and non-shoot through techniques, the Z-source four quadrant choppers can produce any desired DC voltage across the DC motor. The switching patterns for both buck and boost operations are presented to achieve four modes of operation of DC motor. As a result, the proposed model will have ride through capability during voltage sags, manage during voltage swells, used in any types of DC voltage sources such as fuel cell and solar cell and improve the reliability by reducing EMI noise. Analysis and simulation results are presented to demonstrate these new findings.

Abstract

In this paper, latest technology is introduced in substitution to conventional voltage and current type inverter with Transformer based impedance (Z) source inverter in voltage sag assessment and mitigation and compared with voltage source inverter based dynamic voltage restorer. Transformer based impedance source inverters (Trans-Z source inverters) are newly proposed inverters that can be used to overcome downside of voltage source inverter, current source inverter and impedance source (Z-source) inverter. T-Z source inverter consists of transformer with high frequency and low leakage inductance along with low reactive component compared with conventional Z source inverter. In case of T-Z source inverter, voltage stress throughout Z-source capacitor is reduced along with inrush current limitation at startup. This paper presents modeling of T-Z source inverter based dynamic voltage restorer using MATLAB/SIMULINK software along with its THD analysis which is compared with VSI based dynamic voltage restorer. Here abc to dq0 control algorithm is employed. The control technique which is employed for simulation shows excellent results for voltage sag and swell compensation.

Abstract

Fault-tolerant capability of electrical motor drives is an essential feature in applications such as automotive, aeronautic, and many others. A multi-phase permanent-magnet BLDC motor exhibits a high fault tolerant capability hence increasing the reliability, as it can be designed to reduce the fault occurrence as well as to operate indefinitely in the presence of fault. With multi independent phases, in the event of failure of one or more, the remaining healthy phases let the motor to operate properly. Abstract

This paper describes the Grid connected solar photovoltaique system using DC-DC boost converter and the DC/AC inverter (VSC) to supplies electric power to the utility grid. The model contains a representation of the main components of the system that are two solar arrays of 100 kW, boost converter and the grid side inverter. The paper starts with a system description, in this part we have given a definition and a short overview of every component used in this system and they are taken separately. The PV cell model is easy, accurate, and takes external temperature and solar radiation into consideration. It also proposes a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm. The algorithm incorporated in a DC/DC converter is used to track the maximum power of PV cell. Finally, the DC/AC inverter (VSC) of three- level is used to regulate the ouput voltage of DC/DC converter and connects the PV cell to the grid. Simulation results show how a solar radiation’s change can affect the power output of any PV system, also they show the control performance and dynamic behavior of the grid connected photovoltaic system.

Abstract

This paper presents a developed logical tripping scheme to improve conventional protection performance. Adaptive single pole auto reclosure (ASPAR) system is proposed that considers, automatically tripping and reclosing of a multi-shot independent pole technique of a circuit breaker at a predetermined sequence, which can be used to boost the synchronization of the power grid under the transient fault conditions. Moreover, the ASPAR can be utilized to enhance the electrical system stability and reliability at the same operating conditions. Based on the three-phase system, the Artificial neural network (ANN) in this work has been done in order to diagnose and detect healthy and faulted phases. The proposed ANN fault classifier method consists of the logic gates, router circuits, timers, and positive and negative sequence analyses circuit. In addition, it is used to give the ability to recognize a fault type, which by training on the sequence angle values and coordination of the transmission line. Three-phase overhead transmission line including the proposed ASPAR is built in MATLA \SIMULINK environment. Thus the performance ANN-fault classified is tested under different fault conditions. Simulation results show that the proposed ASPAR based on ANN is accurate and well performance. Whereas resultant tripping and reclosing signals of ASPAR are successfully provided that enhances the circuit breaker mechanism under these operating condition.

Abstract

 The reliability, efficiency, and controllability of Photo Voltaic power systems can be increased by embedding the components of a Boost Converter. Currently, the converter technology overcomes the main problems of manufacturing cost, efficiency and mass production. Issue to limit the life span of a Photo Voltaic inverter is the huge electrolytic capacitor across the Direct Current bus for energy decoupling. This paper presents a two-phase interleaved boost converter which ensures 180 angle phase shift between the two interleaved converters. The Proportional Integral controller is used to reshape that the controller attempts to minimize the error by adjusting the control inputs and also real coded genetic algorithm is proposed for tuning of controlling parameters of Proportional Integral controller. The real coded genetic algorithm is applied in the Interleaved Boost Converter with Advanced Pulse Width Modulation Techniques for improving the results of efficiency and reduction of ripple current. Simulation results illustrate the improvement of efficiency and the diminution of ripple current.
