This paper deals with an advanced design for a pump powered by solar energyto supply agricultural lands with water and also the maximum power point is used to extract the maximum value of the energy available inside the solar panels and comparing between techniques MPPT such as Incremental conductance, perturb & observe, fractional short current circuit, and fractional open voltage circuit to find the best technique among these. The solar system is designed with main parts: photovoltaic (PV) panel, direct current/direct current (DC/DC) converter, inverter, filter, and in addition, the battery is used to save energy in the event that there is an increased demand for energy and not to provide solar radiation, as well as saving energy in the case of generation more than demand. This work was done using the matrix laboratory (MATLAB) simulink program.

The present work includes a study of the impact of varying pitch angles and angular velocity on the performance parameters of a horizontal axis wind turbine using computational fluid dynamics. Simulations have been made using commercial Ansys 15 software. Seven pitch angles are chosen for study, i.e., 0° , 5 ° , 10° , 15° , 20° , 25° , and 28°, and two angular velocity values of 1.57 rad/sec and 2.22 rad/sec are used for simulation. The turbulence model used is shear stress transport (SST) K-ω. A detailed study of the influence of pitch angle on the aerodynamic characteristics of the wind turbine is highlighted. Performance parameters like torque and power have been found to exhibit random variability with a change in wind velocity and pitch angle. The verification of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with the standard empirical formula is highlighted. The best pitch angle is noted for the best power coefficient.

In this paper, using a neural controller and a genetic optimization algorithm to control the voltage as well as, control the frequency of the grid along with the management of the reactive power of the micro-grid to control the output power during islanding using Simultaneous bilateral power converters with voltage/frequency droop strategy and optimization of PI coefficients of parallel power converters by genetic-neural micro-grid algorithm to suppress AC side-current flow that increases stability and improvement of conditions frequency and voltage are discussed. Given the performance of the micro-grid in two simulation scenarios, namely transition from on-grid to off-grid, the occurrence of a step change in load in island mode as well as return to working mode is connected. The ability to detect the robust performance and proper performance of two-level neural controller. The controller performance time was also very good, indicating the appropriate features of the method used to design the controller, namely two-level neural, genetics. The main advantage of this method is its simplicity of design. The method used is also efficient and resistant to changes in the system, which results from the simulations.

The main theme of the paper which deals with the enhancing steady-state and dynamics performance of the power grids by Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) based on computational intelligence. The proposed technique will be applied to solve real problems in a power grid. The FACTS device, which will be used in the paper, is the most promising one, which known as the Distributed Power Flow Controller (DPFC). The paper achieves the optimization of the type, the location and the size of the power and control elements for DPFC to optimize the system performance. The paper derives the criteria to install the DPFC in an optimal location with optimal parameters and then designs an AI based damping controller for enhancing power system dynamic performance. In this paper, for every operating point genetic algorithm is used to search for controllers’ parameters, parameters found at certain operating point are different from those found at others. ANFISs are required in this case to recognize the appropriate parameters for each operating point.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i2.6311

In this work, the design and analysis of new Li-Ion battery charger interface using the switching-based technique is proposed for high efficiency, high speed charge and low area. The high efficiency, the lower size area and the fast charge are the more important norms of the proposed Li-Ion battery charger interface. The battery charging is completed passes to each charging mode: The first mode is the trickle charge mode (TC), the second mode is the constant current mode (CC) and the last mode is the constant voltage mode (CV), in thirty three minutes. The new Li-Ion battery charger interface is designed, simulated and layouted in Cadence software using TSCM 180 nm CMOS technology. With an input voltage VIN = 4.5 V, the output battery voltage (VBAT) may range from 2.7 V to 4.2 V and the maximum charging battery current (IBAT) is 1.7 A. The peak efficiency reaches 97% and the total area is only 0.03mm2 .

A new bidirectional multilevel inverter topology with a high number of voltage levels with a very reduced number of power components is proposed in this paper. Only TEN power switches and four asymmetric DC voltage sources are used to generate 25 voltage levels in this new topology. The proposed multilevel converter is more suitable for e-mobility and photovoltaic applications where the overall energy source can be composed of a few units/associations of several basic source modules. Several benefits are provided by this new topology: Highly sinusoidal current and voltage waveforms, low Total Harmonic Distortion, very low switching losses, and minimum cost and size of the device. For optimum control of this 25-level voltage inverter, a special Modified Hybrid Modulation technique is performed. The proposed 25-level inverter is compared to various topologies published recently in terms of cost, the number of active power switches, clamped diodes, flying capacitors, DC floating capacitors, and the number of DC voltage sources. This comparison clearly shows that the proposed topology is cost-effective, compact, and very efficient. The effectiveness and the good performance of the proposed multilevel power converter (with and without PWM control) are verified and checked by computational simulations.

Electric vehicle seems largely based on electrical machines. Finding the best motor type seems be important for having more performances and a transport system robustness. In this work, we present an analytical model of the synchronous machine with variable reluctances in linear and saturated modes. The angular position of the rotor (θ) and the phase current (i) will beused as parameters. The analytical model of this machine will allow us to determinate its magnetic characteristics such inductors, magnetic flux and electromagnetic torque. The results obtained by the analytical model are compared with those obtained by the finite element method. So, basing on Matlab/Simulink tool and by working with finite element method, these results are depicted and the paper objective is illustrated.

This paper is devoted to the state of the art in photovoltaic (PV) conversion chains and their architectures. Two major characteristics are considered to classify these chains. These are the galvanic isolation and the number of stages; characteristics generally localized around the DC-AC converter (inverter) at the end of the PV conversion chain. Therefore, this paper deals with a comprehensive review of the different inverter topologies that can be integrated into PV conversion chains, distinguishing between the transformer based and the transformer-less conversion chains. The paper demonstrates that to this date, transformer-based inverters are very common and widely used, have a long record of accomplishment as a component of solar energy systems, in particular for residential applications because of their greater efficiency, smaller size, and lower costs. Nevertheless, transformer-less chains are touted with some problems and shortcomings. Moreover, solar energy storage devices, wireless charging systems in stations and along the highways require the re-examination of the existing solar PV conversion chains, their architectures and possibly new conversion chains suitable for all distributed generation including electric cars and storage devices.

This paper presents archimedes optimization algorithm(AOA) and dispersive flies optimization(DFO) to optimally tune gain parameters of PID control scheme in order to regulate DC motor’s speed. These suggested techniques tune the controller by the minimization of the fitness function represented by the integral of time multiplied by absolute error (ITAE). The modelling and simulation are carried out in MATLAB/Simulink. The transient response of unit step input obtained from AOA-PID-ITAE andDFO-PID-ITAE controllers were compared to those obtained from Ziegler-Nichols (ZN) method and particle swarm optimization(PSO). The results indicate that AOA-PID-ITAE and DFO-PID-ITAE are more efficient than ZN method and PSO in reducing rise time and settling time. Likewise, DFOconverge faster to the optimal solution with lower overshoot than AOA and PSO.
