Abstract

The emerging of inductive wireless power transfer (IWPT) technology provides more opportunities for the electric vehicle (EV) battery to have a better recharging process. With the development of IWPT technology, various way of wireless charging of the EV battery is proposed in order to find the best solution. To further understand the fundamentals of the IWPT system itself, an ample review is done. There are different ways of EV charging which are static charging (wired), static wireless charging (SWC) and dynamic wireless charging (DWC). The review starts with a brief comparison of static charging, SWC and DWC. Then, in detailed discussion on the fundamental concepts, related laws and equations that govern the IWPT principle are also included. In this review, the focus is more on the DWC with a little discussion on static charging and SWC to ensure in-depth understanding before one can do further research about the EV charging process. The in-depth perception regarding the development of DWC is elaborated together with the system architecture of the IWPT and DWC system and the different track versions of DWC, which is installable to the road lane.

Abstract

This research presents a study, modelling and simulation of the piezoelectric material work as filters (piezoelectric filter) used to eliminate the harmonics in power electronic circuits, high order harmonics are generating due to the high switching frequencies and circuit equipment, detailed simulation is achieved for the piezoelectric filter tested in full-bridge DC/DC converter circuit with resistive load works as dc power supply (12 to 48 volt). As a result, the uses of piezoelectric filters have a great impact on harmonics elimination, which leads to reduce the overall total harmonic distortion leads to increase the efficiency, as well as the output voltage from the dc power supply remain constant by varying the load resistance over a wide range. The dc power supply circuit including the piezoelectric filter has been simulated using PSIM (V9.1) power electronic circuit simulation software.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel shunt active power filter (SAPF). The power converter that is used in this SAPF is constructed from a four-leg asymmetric multi-level cascaded H-bridge (CHB) inverter that is fed from a photovoltaic source. A three-dimensional space vector modulation (3D-SVPWM) technique is adopted in this work. The multi-level inverter can generate 27-level output with harmonic content is almost zero. In addition to the capability to inject reactive power and mitigating the harmonics, the proposed SAPF has also, the ability to inject real power as it is fed from a PV source. Moreover, it has a fault-tolerant capability that makes the SAPF maintaining its operation under a loss of one leg of the multi-level inverter due to an open-circuit fault without any degradation in the performance. The proposed SAPF is designed and simulated in MATLAB SIMULINK using a single nonlinear load and the results have shown a significant reduction in total harmonics distortion (THD) of the source current under the normal operating condition and post a failure in one phase of the SAPF. Also, similar results are obtained when IEEE 15 bus network is used.

Abstract

This study is concerned with the analyses of performance on a solar dryer integrated with solid desiccant coloums using water based solar collector. The dryer consists of a solar water collector, two solid desiccant coloums, a water storage tank, two heat exchangers, an air heater, and a drying chamber. The dryer decreased the Centella asiatica L moisture content from 88.3% (wb) to 15.9% (wb) within 12 hours, with an average temperature and relative humidity of 45.4°C and 25.8%, respectively. The rate of moisture evaporation and the specific moisture evaporation rate were in the range of 0.001-1.762kg/h and 0.02-0.482 kg/kWh, with 0.594kg/h and 0.169kg/kWh in average values, respectively. The dryer efficiency was in the range of 0.62%-30.4%, with 15.4% in average value. The energy required for moisture evaporation and total energy input to the dryer were in the range of 26.9-1132.2W and 3638.0-4329.7W, with 601.8 W and 3967.4 W in average values, respectively. The efficiency of collector and the heat exchanger effectiveness were in the range of 38.1-50.5% and 65.1-79.7%, with 45.0% and 73.0% in average values, respectively. The result shows that the dryer is suitable for drying Centella asiatica L, this is due to the low temperature of drying air and high moisture evaporation rate.

Abstract

This paper covers the modal analysis application (MATLAB 2019a) for improving the voltage profiles by optimum positioning of the capacitor banks for 6-bus Oman Electrical System because the Oman electricity TransmissionCompany (OETC) is suffering of drop voltage in these 6 buses especially during summer season as a peak period. The Newton-Raphson (N-R) method will help to determine the required reactive power for each load bus and as well the ideal position or point of capacitors. The process aims to maintain the Q-V relations of the electrical grid by correlating the lowest Eigen-values to related Eigen-vectors in obtained Jacobian matrix. It depends on the Eigen-values, if they are positive then the system’s voltage is stable otherwise it is not stable. In a stable system, the potential voltage collapse could be anticipated by checking the participation factors for a group of minimal positive Eigen-values. In general, the critical weak bus is associated with lowerEigen-values. Electrical system collapse is attributable to the weakest bus in the network and it could be avoided by determining the weak buses and providing capacitor banks at suitable locations which will lead to improve the voltage stability margin.

Abstract

A DC motor is applied to delicate speed and position in the industry. The stability and productivity of a system are keys for tuning of a DC motor speed. Stabilized speed is influenced by load sway and environmental factors. In this paper, a comparison study in diverse techniques to tune the speed of the DC motor with parameter uncertainties is showed. The research has discussed the application of the feed-forward neural network (FFNN) which is enhanced by a sine tree-seed algorithm (STSA). STSA is a hybrid method of the tree-seed algorithm (TSA) and Sine Cosine algorithm. The STSA method is aimed to improve TSA performance based on the sine cosine algorithm (SCA) method. A feed-forward neural network (FFNN) is popular and capable of nonlinear issues. The focus of the research is on the achievement speed of DC motor. In addition, the proposed method will be compared with proportional integral derivative (PID), FFNN, marine predator algorithm-feed-forward neural network (MPA-NN) and atom search algorithm-feed-forward neural network (ASO-NN). The performance of the speed from the proposed method has the best result. The settling time value of the proposed method is more stable than the PID method. The ITAE value of the STSA-NN method was 31.3% better than the PID method. Meanwhile, the ITSE value is 29.2% better than the PID method.

Abstract

When the GPV is under partial shading, several peaks appear in the characteristic P-V, namely a GMP and one or more local maximums. The classical algorithm ‘P&O’ MPPT cannot converge on the GMP for low irradiation values and is trapped by tracking down a LMP so making the algorithm ineffective making the algorithm ineffective, in this case under 200 W/m². An alternative objective function is developed to optimize the performance of the FLC by selecting the appropriate gains using PSO. In this simulation the GPV is composed of one hundred modules grouped parallel series (10x10) and subjected to partial shading. The proposed FLC provides better performance for GMP tracking for the chosen shade configuration selected.

Abstract

The article presents the results of experimental studies of the automatic speed control system (ASCS) of an induction motor (IM). Preliminary experimental studies have shown that the stator current minimum (power factor) is a suboptimal criterion. Optimal in terms of control is the rated power factor. Tests of IM with a thyristor voltage converter (TVC), as a power source, were conducted on an installation created at the department. A mathematical model of ASCS IM corresponding to the experimental setup has been developed. To determine the main functional dependences of IM, such as stator voltage, stator current, power factor, torque on the shaft, a program for approximating experimental data by polynomials was developed. Using the developed mathematical model, the regulatory characteristic of IM that was optimal from an energy point of view was obtained. The necessary indicators of IM and TVC are determined (thyristor control angle, stator voltage, stator current) to change existing settings in order to save electric energy. The results of experimental studies are presented, the graph shows an optimized version of the form of the regulatory characteristic according to the criterion of minimum electric energy consumption.

Abstract

This paper presents two solutions to cascade the doubly-fed induction machines in the power generator systems. The first solution is a traditional one with the power control circuit located on the stator-side. The second solution is a new one with the power control circuit located on the rotor-side. After analysis and evaluation, it is shown that the solution with the power control circuit located on the rotor side has advantages over the solution with the power control circuit located on the stator-side. Therefore, the authors chose the solution which is a power control circuit located on the rotor side to study, analyze in-depth and run the simulation. The results show that the proposed solution has a very good quality, the output voltage of the generator always follows the grid-voltage even when changing the gird-voltage or changing the speed of the generator.
