Abstract

In this research, battery charger based on Photovoltaic (PV) system consists of buck converter as useful PV module interface was fabricated. Since output power of PV module changes quickly due to changing solar radiation, optimization is required. One of the easy and cheap optimization techniques is by implementing Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm for controlling switch of the buck converter. The P&O algorithm tracks maximum power point by generating suitable duty cycle for switching of the buck converter. The objective of this paper is to present the experimental proof of the P&O algorithm implementation in optimizing performance of the buck converter. The experimental results prove that the P&O algorithm can optimize the work of the buck converter and support shorter charging time by producing higher output voltage and power.

Abstract

Speed control of induction motor can be obtained by closed loop system which require speed sensor. Speed sensor system is less effective for wide plant system, because the sensor location is too far from the main control system and measurement result is less accurate. This paper presents the development of speed sensorless field oriented control (FOC) of induction motor by using the rotor flux and speed observers. The observers only required the stator voltage and current of induction motor to obtain the rotor flux and speed estimation. The observers based on recurrent neural network (RNN) methods are implemented. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation. Simulation results show that RNN observer can produce well the rotor flux and speed estimation. MSE values of the rotor flux estimation are between 0.000087 and 0.000264, whereas MSE values of the speed estimation are between 43.0552 and 156.0798. Keywords: field oriented control, induction motor, observer, and recurrent neural network.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v1i1.65

Abstract

Multiphase electric drives have been developed due to numerous advantages offered by those machines when it compared with the conventional three-phase machines. Multiphase motor drives are considered for applications, where the reduction of power per phase for both motor and inverter and high reliability are required. High performance control techniques are developed for multi-phase drives. The performances of the high performance controller and flux observers may be degraded during the operation. Since the parameters of Induction Motor (IM) varies continuously due to temperature variation and heating. Thus it is significantly important that the value of rotor resistance is continuously observed online and adapted by the control algorithm in order to avoid detuning effects. The efficiency and performance of an induction motor drive system can be improved by online observation of the critical parameters, such as the rotor resistance and stator resistance. Among the parameters of IM, rotor resistance is a decisive one for flux estimation, and also the stator resistance becomes critical in the low-speed operation condition. This paper presents a new online estimation method for the rotor resistance of the IM for sliding mode observer. This method generally based on theories of variable structure and is useful in order to adjust online unknown parameters (load torque and rotor resistance). The presented non-linear compensator afford a voltage inputs on the articulation of stator current and rotor speed measurements, and engender an estimates for the unknown parameters simultaneously, the non-measurable state variables (rotor flux and derivatives of the stator current and voltage) that converge to the corresponding true values. Under the persistent excitation condition, the proposed method estimates the actual value of rotor resistance, which guarantees the exact estimation of the rotor flux. Non-linear Backstepping control and adaptive sliding mode observer of a five-phase induction motor drive is presented. The accuracy and validity of the method is verified by MATLAB simulation model.

Abstract

Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is an important objective needed to gain maximum power from solar photovoltaic panel during the weather condition variation. Many studies and solutions are proposed in literature, most of them focus on the type of algorithm which adopted for MPP tracking through using same driver i.e. DC-DC Boost converter. Among these algorithms, Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) demonstrates high quality performance by fast tracking response and robust effectiveness. This paper proposes a FLC by a new harmony of the input and the output variables through comparative study to the controller tracking behavior. To track the MPP, the proposed solution controls the change of duty cycle for PWM gate drive pulses width variation to drive the designed Buck-Boost DC-DC converter. MATLAB/Simulink software is selected to simulate the introduced controller. The simulation results are reflecting the promising indications to adopt the presented proposal as an effective MPPT system for practical applications.

Abstract

Sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA) is a reliable method for detection and diagnosis of faults in the active part of transformers. However, although SFRA is widely employed, the interpretation of SFRA signature is still a challenge and require experts to analyse them. This is due to lack of guideline and standard for SFRA signature interpretation and clarification. This paper presents the interpretation of SFRA signature by classification and quantification on inter-turn short circuit fault on the transformer winding. The short-circuited turns fault on HV winding phase “A” was practically simulated on three different units of three-phase transformers. The results of simulated fault are presented and discussed. A conclusion was drawn which provides the interpretation of the SFRA response due to inter-turn short circuit fault case by using a statistical indicator which is NCEPRI algorithm.

Abstract

Speed Estimation without speed sensors is a complex phenomenon and is overly dependent on the machine parameters. It is all the more significant during low speed or near zero speed operation. There are several approaches to speed estimation of an induction motor. Eventually, they can be classified into two types, namely, estimation based on the machine model and estimation based on magnetic saliency and air gap space harmonics. This paper analyses the effect of incorrect setting of parameters like the stator resistance, rotor time constant, load torque variations and also Voltage unbalance on various adaptive control based speed estimation techniques fed from the machine model. It also shows how the convergence mechanisms of the adaptation schemes are affected during these conditions. The equivalent models are built and simulated offline using MATLAB/SIMULINK blocksets and the results are analysed.

Abstract

This article presents the new control structure for a Direct Current Motor (DC Motor) using the flatness-control principle. Basic on the mathematical model of DC Motors, the author demonstrates the application ability of the fatness-control theory to control the DC Motor, and then calculates the parameters and proposes the structure of the flatness-controller. The proposed structure is built and ran on Matlab-Simulink software to verify the system efficiency. The simulation results show that the quality of the control system is very good, especially in case of the flatness controller combined with PID controller to eliminate static error when the parameters of the DC Motor have been not known accurately.

Abstract

This paper presents sensorless position and speed control for a four-switch three-phase inverter (FSTPI) fed induction motor drive. Accurate knowledge of stator resistance is of utmost importance for correct operation of a number of speed sensorless induction motor control schemes in the low speed region. Since stator resistance inevitably varies with operating conditions, stable and accurate operation at near-zero speed requires an appropriate identification algorithm for the stator resistance. The paper proposes such an identification algorithm, which is developed for the rotor flux based model reference adaptive system (MRAS) type of the speed estimator in conjunction with a rotor flux oriented control scheme. In this speed estimation method only one (out of the two available) degree of freedom is utilized for speed estimation. It is utilize the second available degree of freedom as a mean for adapting the stator resistance. The parallel stator resistance and rotor speed identification algorithm is developed in a systematic manner, using Popov’s hyper stability theory. It increases the complexity of the overall control system insignificantly and enables correct speed estimation and stable drive operation at near-zero speeds. The proposed speed and position estimator with parallel stator resistance identification for FSTPI fed induction motor at very low speed under high load operation is verified by simulation and experimental results. The results show the robustness of the proposed method with FSTPI.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v4i2.5057
