Abstract

The elderly have hypertension due to an increase in arterial pressure. Hypertension that is not treated properly can cause complications such as stroke, coronary heart disease, diabetes, kidney failure and blindness. One of the non-pharmacological treatments for hypertension in the elderly is citronella aromatherapy. Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus) contains monoterpene alcohol such as linalool and geraniol, which function as analgesics, calm and balance stimulation, and have a vasodilator effect. Treatment of hypertension in the elderly at the research site is still limited to administering drugs (pharmacological therapy). The provision of non-pharmacological therapy to treat hypertension has not been carried out at the research site This study aimed to determine the differences in the effectiveness of citronella aromatherapy on blood pressure in hypertensive older people in Karet, Pleret, Bantul. This study used a Quasy experimental pre-post without control group design method. In addition, the researcher used the bivariate Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results obtained are p-value of 0.00, meaning there is a significant difference in the mean value before and after the citronella aromatherapy intervention was given. Therefore, it is hoped that this intervention can be used as a reference to reduce blood pressure in the elderly who have hypertension. Keywords: Citronella Aromatherapy; Blood Pressure; Elderly

Abstract

The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is important for nurses when providing services to patients to avoid infectious diseases including COVID-19. However, continuous use of PPE can cause physiological problems such as headache, facial dermatitis, difficulty breathing, irritation, and discomfort. This study aims to determine various physiological disorders due to the use of PPE on nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic based on the results of a critical review of scientific articles. The search for scientific articles was carried out through the search engines Google Scholar, Pubmed, and EBSCO with the keywords personal protective equipment, physiological disorders, nurses, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The search is limited to 2020-2021, which is accessible in full text for free. The results of the literature study found 13 suitable articles. It is known that the use of PPE has effects such as headache, dermatitis, itching, rash, difficulty breathing, irritation, reactions to body skin tissue, acne and discomfort when used continuously for an indefinite period of time. It can be concluded that the use of PPE has a negative impact on the physiological condition of nurses if PPE is used continuously without regard to safety management in the use of PPE. Abstract

One of the disorders in the elderly is stress. The stress elderly will have an impact on health. Stress elderly can arise because in the elderly there are changes in body composition, muscles, bones, and joints. The preliminary study showed that from 6 elderly, all elderly experienced a decrease in leg muscle strength. 2 elderly experienced mild stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between muscle strength and stress in the elderly in Banjar Samu, Singapadu Kaler, Sukawati, Gianyar, Bali. This research is non-experimental quantitative research with an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design. The sample of this study was the elderly, as many as 46 elderly. It used the total sampling technique. Data collection tools using a questionnaire and chair stand test. Data analysis used Fisher Exact analysis. The statistical test of the relationship between muscle strength and stress showed a p-value of 0.009 <0.05. The majority of the elderly have abnormal muscle strength, namely 33 people or 71.7%, the majority of the elderly have normal stress levels, namely 33 people or 71.7%. There is a significant relationship between muscle strength and stress in the elderly in Banjar Samu, Singapadu Kaler, Sukawati, Gianyar, Bali. Keywords: Elderly; Muscle strength; Stress

Abstract

The Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Bantul Regency has risen in 2020. Triharjo Village has the highest percentage of high-risk pregnant women in the Pandak II Health Center's target region (30.48%). Currently, insufficient information sources for pregnant women can promote stress, anxiety, and low maternal awareness, increasing the chance of exposure to Covid-19. During the COVID-19 pandemic, effective promotional media are needed to increase pregnant women's knowledge and resilience. This study will measure the effect of interactive video media in increasing pregnant women's knowledge and resilience to the COVID-19 pandemic. The research design is a quasi-experiment using consecutive sampling. The study sample comprised of 38 pregnant women who satisfied the criteria. The knowledge instrument was modified based on the literature review WHO recommendation, POGI and construct validity test was carried out while the resilience instrument uses the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). This study used paired t-tests to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. The results of the paired t-test for knowledge of pregnant women showed p-value of 0.000 <0.05 and p-value of the effect of interactive video education on resilience of pregnant women. of 0.000 < 0.05. This study concluded that interactive video media can increase pregnant women's awareness and resistance during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Along with many physiologic changes seen with aging, significant changes also happen in sleep and circadian rhythm across the lifes. Insomnia is a form of sleep disorder that is often experienced by the elderly. Insomnia is difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep. Treatment for insomnia usually begins with the elimination of habits (moving beds, using the bed only to sleep and others) if it doesn't work, it can be treated with hypnotic drugs. In fact, the elderly with all the functional decline of their bodies will make the work of their organs more difficult when they often consume these drugs. Therefore a therapy that is progressive relaxation therapy is expected to overcome these problems in the elderly. Progressive relaxation provides a way to identify specific muscles to differentiate between feelings of tension and deep relaxation. The purpose is to analyzing the effect of progressive muscle relaxation to elderly with insomnia in Pucangan Village, Kartasura. This study uses a pre-experimental approach with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. Techniques Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique as many as 30 elderly people who suffer from insomnia. The statistical test used was the paired samples t test with a p value of < 0.05. The results using the paired t test show the mean value of the pretest was 13.10 with a standard deviation of 5.08 and the post-test value was 11.07 with a standard deviation of 5.09, with the result p value = 0.001. The conclusion in this study shows that progressive relaxation therapy has a significant effect on the elderly who experience insomnia. Keywords: Elderly; Insomnia; Progressive Relaxation

Abstract

During the pandemic diabetes itself becomes the most dangerous comorbid because diabetes increases the risk of more severe complications when infected with the Corona virus. With restrictions on activities outside the home during the pandemic, inevitably many people have to do all activities at home, but precisely because of this, many people are neglectful of lifestyle management which ends up running a sententary life. Thus, people with diabetes mellitus do not carry out one of the pillars to stabilize blood sugar levels, namely physical activity. In addition, many diabetics do not know that controlling blood sugar levels can be done non-pharmacologically, one example is relaxation techniques. Most people with Diabetes Mellitus never apply this management because they are considered to have no function. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation on blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The design of this study was quasi-experimental with the type of pretest and posttest intervention. The research population was 36 people and the sample was taken using simple random sampling, each with 18 people. The research instrument used an observation sheet and a glucometer to measure blood sugar levels. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon sign rank test with the result <0.05. The results showed that the results of blood sugar levels before and after Progressive OOT relaxation in the treatment group had a P value = .016, P value <0.05, the hypothesis was accepted that progressive muscle relaxation was effective in reducing blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. 2. Future studies are expected to compare other complementary therapies to stabilize blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
