Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of preconceptions found in the May 2025 edition of Deddy Corbuzier's Close the Door podcast with the theme The People of Papua are Hungry. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research data consists of narratives from sources that contain preconceptions. The data sources were obtained from seven Close the Door podcast videos aired in May 2025. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation, downloading, non-participant observation, and recording. Data analysis techniques were carried out by describing. The data analysis procedure was carried out by transcribing, classifying, coding, interpreting, and concluding. The results of the study show that the presuppositions in Deddy Corbuzier's podcast edition of May 2025, themed ‘The Hungry People of Papua’, include existential, factual, lexical, structural, non-factual, and counterfactual presuppositions. Existential presuppositions arise when objects, figures, places, or groups are considered real. Factual presuppositions affirm facts or experiences that actually occurred. Lexical presuppositions indicate changes in circumstances, habits, or achievements. Structural presuppositions arise through the question words what, who, where, and when. Non-factual presuppositions mark imaginary or simulated activities. Counterfactual presuppositions present scenarios or desires that contradict reality, such as if, for example, hoping, wanting.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze (1) the structure of procedural texts, (2) the linguistic features used, and (3) the feasibility of YouTube tutorial videos as learning media for teaching procedural text writing in junior high school. This research employed a qualitative approach with a content analysis method. The data sources consisted of 13 tutorial videos from the Kreasi Aiswa YouTube channel published in January 2026. The data were collected through documentation, observation, note-taking, and transcription techniques. The analysis was conducted using an interactive model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that all videos generally contain the main structure of procedural texts, namely introduction, body, and closing, although the completeness varies. Most videos (69.2%) are categorized as appropriate, while 30.8% are less appropriate, mainly due to the absence of brief overviews and closing explanations. In terms of linguistic features, the majority of videos (69.2%) are appropriate and 30.8% are highly appropriate, with consistent use of imperative sentences, temporal conjunctions, and material verbs, although the use of sequence markers is not always systematic. Regarding feasibility, 69.2% of the videos are categorized as feasible and 30.8% as highly feasible as learning media. In conclusion, YouTube tutorial videos have strong potential as instructional media for procedural text writing, but they require careful selection and pedagogical reinforcement by teachers to optimize their use in classroom learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students’ argumentative writing skills before and after the use of Blogger media and to examine its effect on improving those skills. The research employed a quantitative approach with an experimental method using a one group pretest and posttest design. The sample consisted of 30 students of a vocational high school in Medan. Data were collected through tests, observation, and documentation. Data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistics, including normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing using paired sample t test. The results showed that the mean score increased from 57.20 to 77.87 with an improvement of 20.67 points. The data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The hypothesis test indicated a significance value lower than 0.05, which means that the use of Blogger media had a significant effect on improving students’ argumentative writing skills. Therefore, Blogger media is effective in teaching argumentative writing.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of emoji in the construction of emotional meaning in digital communication, especially on the WhatsApp platform among teenagers. With the increasing use of instant messaging applications, emoji has become an integral part of digital communication used to express emotions that are difficult to convey through text alone. Through a quantitative approach with a survey method of 50 respondents, this study explores the pattern of emoji use, user perceptions of the function of emoji in clarifying emotions, and how social context influences the interpretation of emoji. The results show that the majority of respondents use emoji to clarify emotions (70% agree), consider messages without emoji to be incomplete (37% agree), and believe that emoji helps reduce misunderstandings in digital communication (64% agree). However, there is an awareness that the meaning of emoji can be ambiguous and is influenced by the context and relationship between the sender and recipient. This study contributes to the understanding of the dynamics of digital communication and the role of non-verbal elements in the construction of emotional meaning in the era of text-based communication.

Abstract

Assertive speech acts are a form of speech act used by speakers to convey information, opinions, or beliefs that are considered true. This study examines the form and function of assertive speech acts in the film Jumbo by Ryan Adriandhy and its relevance as an Indonesian language teaching module in high school. The study used a qualitative method with data sources in the form of dialogues between characters in the film Jumbo. Data were collected through listening methods with tapping techniques, free conversational engagement techniques, and note-taking techniques, then analyzed using the pragmatic equivalent method by considering the context of the speech through the SPEAKING model. The results of the study showed that there were 55 assertive speech act data consisting of 27 news sentences, 15 interrogative sentences, and 13 imperative sentences. The functions of assertive speech acts found included stating (11 data), informing (10 data), suggesting (10 data), boasting (5 data), complaining (6 data), demanding (7 data), and reporting (6 data). The research findings show that assertive speech acts in the film Jumbo have a variety of forms and functions and are relevant to be used as material for compiling Indonesian language teaching modules for grade XI SMA on the material of writing short stories.
