Abstract

The personalities of the characters are based on childhood memories resulting in wounds that carry over into adulthood. Through Sigmund Freud's theory, this research seeks to reveal the Id, Ego and Superego of the characters who are affected by painful childhood memories. A descriptive qualitative approach and a textual approach are used to try to translate the psychology of the characters in the novel Loversation by Valerie Patkar. The results of the research tell the story of the characters who have fears as a result of childhood trauma which makes them have a loner ID, don't care about other people because they are afraid of being disappointed, have lingering feelings of hatred, misunderstandings due to fear which backfires. However, they still have an Ego which often conflicts with their Id. Theala didn't care but came again to make sure Dirga didn't commit suicide. From the loneliness that made him feel empty and even forgave Dirga who was guilty. Dirga's ego, which was afraid, became worried due to his bad childhood and suppressed his feelings for Theala. The superegos of the two characters make Theala and Dirga do things they wouldn't normally do. The superego makes Theala express her fear of her father and Dirga who turns out to love her father more than he hates her.

Abstract

This study explores the language change that occurred in two Indonesian demonstrative words, “demikian” and “begitu”, which are synonyms. As synonyms, both have similar linguistic functions. This study examines the possibility of language change influenced by synonymy through the diffusion of their linguistic functions. The literature works used in this study are Hikayat Abdullah (1842), Azab dan Sengsara (1920), and Cantik Itu Luka (2002), covering a period of 160 years. The words ‘demikian’ and ‘begitu’ were collected by using AntConc and were classified based on the level of change that occurred. The diffusion of their linguistic functions is then supported by quantitative data in the form of frequency. The analysis found that the changes in the word ‘demikian’ are influenced by its synonym: the word ‘begitu’. Consequently, in the 21st century, the word ‘demikian’ has become similar to its synonym. This study may be useful to portray how language change occurs in synonyms as a specific linguistic category. It can also point out the direction of language change which can be useful for further discussion on language policy.

Abstract

Digital literacy is one of the main competencies that need to be developed in 21st century education. In an effort to improve students' digital literacy, a Project Based Learning (PjBL) based learning model emerges as an innovative alternative that encourages active involvement of students in the learning process. This article presents a literature review on the effectiveness of PjBL in supporting digital literacy, with a focus on developing critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity skills. Based on the review of various literature sources, PjBL not only improves learners' understanding of learning materials, but also provides relevant and applicable learning experiences in the context of digital technology. PjBL allows learners to explore, use and create digital content, thus improving digital literacy skills holistically. However, the implementation of PjBL in digital literacy learning still faces challenges, especially in terms of infrastructure, educator training and policy support. This study recommends more comprehensive support from various parties so that the PjBL learning model can be effectively implemented in various educational environments. Thus, PjBL has the potential to be an adaptive and innovative strategy in facing digital literacy challenges in students.
