Abstract

AbstractMelon is a fruit plant that has a high nutritional value. A limited agricultural land encourages the application of alternatives planting method and utilizes local materials around the community as potential planting media towards resulting a high-yielding variety. One of the cultivation techniques is the use of the hydroponics system. The objective of this study is to determine the most suitable planting medium for melon varieties to be planted hydroponically. This research was conducted in the greenhouse at the sub-district of Medan Tuntungan in the city of Medan during May to August 2017. This research used Randomize Complete Block Design Factorial with 3 replications. The use of planting media consisted of charcoal husk, cocopeat, sawdust and sand; whereby the treatment of varieties consisted of Aramis F1, Amanta F1 and Red Aroma. The results showed that the best medium for hydroponics melon is charcoal husk highlighting significant result onto the plant height, number of leaves and fruit weight of crops, from the use of charcoal husk media. Keywords: hydroponic, soilless culture, melon, medium and variety

Abstract

AbstractOilpalmis one of important export commodities performing as the country™s main foreign exchange from the trade of crops.Nitrogen is a limiting factor of plant growth. This study aims to determine: 1) the appropriate dose of absorption of nitrogen and growth in some high yielding varieties of oil palm; 2) the superior varieties of oil palm crops that provide no effect from the nitrogen nutrients and; 3) the interaction between varieties and nitrogen fertilizer on nitrogen nutrient absorption efficiency. This research was conducted in Palm Oil Research Centre at the District of Deli Serdang, the Province of North Sumatra. The research used Factorial Random Block Design with 2 factors. The first factor is varieties (Avros 540, PPKS 239, Simalungun, Langkat and 718PPKS). The second factor is N fertilizer which consists of without N fertilizer, 25% fertilizer recommendation, 50% fertilizer recommendation, 75% fertilizer recommendation and 100% fertilizer recommendation. The results showed that the varieties of oil palm used have different characteristics on plant height, stem diameter and number of leaves. The Simalungun variety was the best variety and its combination with 100% recommendation N was the best result in increasing plant heightof oil palm. Meanwhile the combination with 50% recommendation N was the best result in increasing stem diameter and number of leavesof oil palm. Keywords: oilpalm, nitrogen fertilizer, variety

Abstract

AbstractMetarhizium anisopliae is an important entomopathogenic fungus that mainly used for biological control. Isolates of M. anisopliae extracted from soil from 15 oil palm plantations located in several districts on the Province of North Sumatra, Indonesia have been investigated to identify their morphological diversity. The morphology of assessed fungi was constructed in the the form of conidia, conidia size, color and shape colony and growth diameter of the 15 isolates. All of conidia forms showed cylindrical shape and string together. The length/width (μm) ratio of conidia size was minimum 2,16 and maximum 3,54. The highest growth rate isolates were found in M3 (Bandar Selamat) and M12 (Mancang) treatment and the lowest rate was M11 (Teluk Parit Kaca) treatment. The color of colonies were varied among the isolates. They were greenish yellow, dark green, yellowish and showing zonation/no zonation. Keywords : Metarhizium anisopliae, biological character, morphological diversity

Abstract

AbstractIt is acknowledged that the struggle faced by the batik industry, particularly in the Province of East Java, dealing with growth challenges caused by several factors: less attractive design, the conventional use of manual handling, and less governmental-institutional support. The purpose of thisstudy is to analyze the performance of centers of Batik industry in Sampang, Trenggalek and Tuban Regencies highlighting their related-production quality and quantity. The location selection of batik production centers is based on coordination with Department of Industry and Trade in each area. Data is collected through surveys and interviews. This study concludes several things. There are six production system elements analyzed in this research included technology (production capacity of batik), funding, raw material, human resources, marketing, and pattern design. Keywords: batik pattern, micro small medium entreprises, productivity
