Abstract

This research to describe social attitude integration and ethnic prejudice in multicultural society. The research took place in Yogyakarta Municipality and Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Province, based on consideration that thelocation resided by families of multicultures (heterogen), prone to interethnic conflict and brawl. Data gathering technique were interview and observation, respondents were 50 people of each location, whole was 100 respondents. Data analysis was qualitative-descriptive technique. The research showed that 79 percent respondents having social integration attitude, 21 percent having ethnic prejudice. The prevention against widening and deteriorating conflict, flaring up, social brawl are to enhance understanding, consiousness, and benefiting pluralism or various cultures as potensial resources, strength for joint progress. Social dialogue facility and communal activity by government and community need to be done. To the Directorate of Social Protection for Social Disaster Victims (PSKBS), General Directorate of Social Protection and Assurance, The Ministry of Social Affairs, need to hold a program on enhancing communal capacity (family) through socialization, education, and training of social harmony management (social integration) to prevent social conflict, set up interethnic community forum that can fill pluralism value so that families and community resilience can be realized.

Abstract

The highest number of people living with HIV/AIDS are of childbearing age. The cumulative proportion of people living with HIV/AIDS in Yogyakarta is located at the level of 20-29 years of age. High activity in this age group makes a lot of productive risky sexual behavior. In the number of persons over the last ten years has increased tenfold. The research is meant to find out about people’s knowledge on the spread of HIV/AIDS in Yogyakarta. This study used is descriptive method, a research procedure that produces descriptive data in the form of words written or spoken by persons or behavior that being observed. This research is directed at the background of the individual in holistic and detail describtion on the phenomena of various things about the knowledge of the various groups on HIV/AIDS. The results of the study shows that there are many who do not know the transmission mode of this virus. They do not know how the disease is transmitted and only know the transmission of disease when in contact with people living with HIV/AIDS. Nearly 50 percent of respondents of the communities living around people with HIV/AIDS can not name a single cause of HIV/AIDS. This means that public knowledge about the disease around the respondents are not widely known. However, the level of knowledge possessed by peers (peer group) is quite good, because they are able to explain the cause of the spread of HIV/AIDS. Similarly withPLWHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS) and OHIDA (People living with people with HIV/AIDS) are used as the respondents have a fairly good knowledge about the causes of the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Abstract

This research is aimed to reveal the social capital of tobacco farmers in supporting farming activities for increasing their social welfare. The social welfare of tobacco farmers is strongly influenced by the tobacco market prices. In this case, the cigarettes industry becomes the backbone of tobacco farming which supports the livelihood of tobacco farmers. This study uses the theory of Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman on social capital. This is a qualitative research that uses case study approach. It was conducted at Lamuk Sub-village, Legoksari Village, Tlogomulyo Sub-District, TemanggungDistrict. Five informants of the research were selected purposively. The data were collected by using specific techniques of indepth interview. Then the data were analyzed by using interactive analysis namely omitting irrelevant data, presenting relevant data and making conclusion (verifying). The findings of this study indicate that the Indonesian Tobacco Farmers Association (APTI) and Farmers Group function as social networking; selametan ritual / pray for cultivating soil, taking care of tobacco plants and tasyakuran / ceremony for being grateful which function as the norm of trust; whilst labor relations system functions as reciprocity; and the activities of jimpitan sewu-selawe, mutual lending of labor, division of crops, watching the legislation of smoking prohibition, Djarum Foundation scholarship function as mutual benefit fromtobacco farmers to Legoksari rural society welfare. The result of the research describes that social capital functions as important aspect in empowering the society, especially the tobacco farmers and recommends that the Government, the society empowerment activists or the Society Empowerment Institutions, Ministry of Social RI, Local Government, and Agriculture Office need to support those related to farmers empowerment policy. It is also expected that the support needed will not change the society structure and will not omit the social capital values.

Abstract

In order to cope a lot of numbers of neglected elderly, the Ministry of Social Affairs has been launching a program (policy) called Neglected Elderly Social Assistance (ASLUT). The main object of ASLUT Program is to ease living burdenof neglected ederly in order to meet the basic needs and living maintenance, the second is to maintain the welfare of the elderly so they can enjoy a reasonable standard of living. To realize the goal of ASLUT program, the program then requires a guidance as a strategy. The research question is how the strategy has to be performed to mentor ASLUT program to empower neglected elderly? The purpose of the research is to know the local empirical strategy of ASLUT programguidance conducted in the empowerment of neglected elderly. The research takes place in Banjarbaru City, West Kalimantan Province. The research method used is descriptive. The result showed that the guidance is used as strategy to direct cash assistance will get assuredly to the concerned (Ederly). Guidance also serves as commitment with the post office to liquify and disburse the aid in cash, and nominating other names for replacement if the existing die and to be resumed by other ederly that is waiting in list.

Abstract

The research is aimed to describe the Self-Reliance of People with Disabilities after Vocational Rehabilitation in Cibinong. As a matter of fact, there are a lot amount of 616,387 people with disabilities in Indonesia in 2014. Data for the research are obtained and collected from the former recipients of this service and from the management of Bina Daksa Cibinong Vocational Rehabilitation Center (BBRVBD) by conducting interviews and documents study. Based on the results of research which are analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative approach, it is obtained some information that the independency of former recipients of BBRVBD Cibinong service can be categorized as “being good enough or tends to be good “, that are considered from six aspects of independency namely the ability to take initiates, the ability to overcome problems, having self-confidence and ability to do something without the help of others, having desire to do things for themselves, and having desire to compete and to be responsible for their action. It is recommended to Cibinong BBRVBD to necessarily make adjustments to the length of education time and to that of skills training with certain characteristic of each skill.

Abstract

The spring coming from Mount Merapi is the main source of life for local residents, protecting the environment of Merapi is the main actions performed by the residents who live in the area. This study aims to know what Merapi community action to protect the environment. Data were collected by interviewing selected informants using the purposed sampling method who involved and knew the research topic and issues. There were three groups of informants who have subsequently interviewed by snowball sampling method. Non-participant observation was also conducted to triangulate data obtained from interview. The secondary data (through docementary analysis) was used to strengthen the primary data (intervew and observation). The results showed that the action based on local value dialoque and mutual agreement in fact couldn’t stopexessive sand mining and exploitation on the slope of Merapi Mountain, it damaged water catchment area. The colective social action called “Bela Lereng Merapi” then done to stop the exessive mining, they overcamesucessfully.

Abstract

The model of social service on trafficking prevention is implemented esentially by stakeholders covering prevention, undertaking, and rehabilitation of the victims problems. The model is implemented in two locations, Medan Municipality and Pakpak Bharat Regency. The model is implemented in six months, through seeking local permision, socialization of the model, activity coordination with local institutions related to this case to shape the same perception, special task action plan, implementation of the model, monitoring, and evaluation. The implementation is working as expected, manifested through establising Local Anti-trafficking Disemination Team (D2AMT) in each location that have been succesfully preventing against trafficking problem through socialization in several schools, mosques and churches youth, and local public figures. Due to involving many aspects, coordination among stakeholders on trafficking prevention is needed, sort of poverty, education, human resources, and criminal conducts.

Abstract

The research on th effectivity of social workers role at Satria Baturaden Children Resort Social Institution (PSPA), is an evaluation research on the role of social workers at the social institution. The research is to reveal the effectivity of social workers role seen from the understanding of children care princip, the supporting factor of child problem handling,the implementation of child problem handling, and the success of child handling. Research location ditermined purposively underconsideration that the institution is the only technical unit in the Ministry of Social Affairs giving social welfare servicesto children with social problem and need special protection. Research subjects are 35 people, consisting 21 social workers, 10 benefit receivers, 9 benefit receivers parent, and 5 public figures. Data were gathered through interview, observation, documentary analysis, and FGD. Data were analyzed quatitatively. The result showed that the role of social wokers at the Satria Baturaden Social Institution was effective. The effectivity known through the effectivity of child service subsidy degree, 9,96 percent. The handicap factor of the child care implementation was the social workers lack understanding onchildren care and their prevention effort, lack of social work background and condition on social work science, and lack of its human recources quality and quantity. The handicap in its initial service was in identification, socialization of program subjects, selection and appropriateness of benefit receivers, assesment was yet optimum, children case data were not yet well documented, family were not participated in their children problem solving so the aftercare was not adequate, including the participation of invironment community and related institution. Based on the research result it is recommended thatthe Minitry of Social Affairs, through The Directorate of Child Social Welfare to set a of model concept service based on non-institution as social welfare development model through family outreach, community, and related network. The model is children problem handling based on family empowerment, community, and related network.

Abstract

This research is done to get an objective information on social welfare problems and its solving in underdeveloped region. Research location ditermined purposively in Baramamase Village, Walenrang Underdistrict, Luwu Regency, South Celebes Province, under the consideration that the region has high prevalency of social problems among other regions. Data gathered through interview, observation, and documentary analysis. The result shows that social problems in Baramamase Village are unhabitable houses, poor families, flood victims natural disaster, economic and social vulnerable women, and neglected children. Initial problem solving that is done are maping and finalizing data, then followed by treatment. It can be concluded that social problems in Baramamase Village is caused by poverty factor. For the social problem solving, especially poverty in underdeveloped region that have not been adequatly covered by the program, it is recommeded that the program should be implemented comprehensively by the government, privat sector, individual, and group. The partisipation of those institution should refer to their respective competencies, so that no overlap policies among commited institutions happen in the implementation of the program.

Abstract

The study on, Revealing Javanese Community Culture as Social Conflict Prevention, meant to indentify the form and meaning of Javanese community culture in rural area as social conflict prevention. The method used in this research is qualitative that reveal subjective meaning on the subject of social and culture phenomenon happening in some local area. The research was done in Krebet Village, Bantul Regency, as cultural tourism village. Informants were choosen purposivevely, they were key figures who know, understand, and have many informations on culture of local community. Data were gathered through in-depth interview, direct observation, and documentary analysis. Data were analysed descriptively, described the form, meaning, and local culture usefulness in prevention against social conflict. The result showed that to prevent any social conflict the community always used local culture, such as tradition, convention, communal expression, and traditional art. Based on the study was recommended to any related institutions that to set policy and program to eradicate social conflict should syncronize, unite, and vitalize local community culture.
