Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' literacy skills in reading fairy tales through the use of the digital application Let's Read for seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Peusangan Selatan. The background of this research is the low literacy ability of students who still rely on conventional teaching methods and have limited access to interactive digital reading materials. This study employs a qualitative descriptive research approach with data collection techniques including observation, documentation, and interviews. The results show that before using the Let's Read digital application, most students had difficulty understanding the content of fairy tales and lacked motivation to read. After utilizing the Let's Read application, there was a positive improvement in students' fairy tale reading abilities in terms of content comprehension, reading interest, and learning motivation. The Let's Read digital application proved effective in providing engaging, easily accessible reading materials aligned with the characteristics of the digital generation. Therefore, the use of digital applications like Let's Read can be a solution to improve students' reading literacy, especially in fairy tale texts, as well as promote the development of critical and creative thinking skills in the current digital era. Keywords: Literasi, membaca dongeng, Let's Read, pembelajaran   digital, siswa SMP.

Abstract

Students' short story writing skills in the digital age face challenges in the form of low interest, limited imagination, and the dominance of interactive visual media. The development of metaverse technology presents new opportunities to deliver more innovative and contextual learning media. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of using comic learning media in improving students' short story writing skills in the metaverse era. The research was conducted at MAN 1 Lampung Tengah with 36 students from class XII IPA 6 as subjects. The method used was classroom action research (CAR) consisting of two cycles. The data analysis technique was carried out in several stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study showed an increase in students' short story writing skills, with students' assessments of content appropriateness and linguistic aspects. The average short story writing score increased after using comic media, with the largest increase being 40%. Comic media has been proven to stimulate students' imagination, facilitate understanding of the storyline, and increase active involvement in the learning process. Thus, the use of comic learning media in the metaverse era can be an innovative alternative to improve short story writing skills while fostering students' interest in literacy.
