Abstract

Film as an audiovisual work of art not only conveys a story, but also contains various layers of meaning that can be analyzed through a semiotic approach. This article aims to reveal the meaning of tragedy and romance in the film “Kupu-Kupu Kertas” through Roland Barthes' semiotic theory which includes three layers of meaning: denotative, connotative, and myth. This study uses a qualitative descriptive. The results of the analysis show that the tragedy in this film is depicted through the main character's inner conflict, sacrifice, and sad fate, while romance is reflected in deep emotional relationships and idealistic values of love. These two aspects not only form the narrative structure of the film, but also represent social and ideological values that live in society.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of simple sentences in anecdotal texts published on CNNIndonesia.com. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research analyzes five anecdotal texts titled "Baju Tahanan KPK", "Sombong", "Anak", "Kebersihan", and "Bau". Data were collected using the observe-and-note technique and analyzed through a distributional method to identify the syntactic structure of simple sentences based on the functional elements of Subject, Predicate, Object, Complement, and Adverbial (SPOK). The findings reveal that simple sentences are used effectively to deliver messages concisely and clearly. Sentence patterns such as S-P-Complement, S-P-Adverbial, and Adverbial-S-P are commonly employed to enhance the humorous, ironic, and critical tone that characterizes anecdotal texts. Abstract

Topik yang dikaji untuk mengetahui  strategi dalam menciptakan kompetisi situasi wacana humor Stand Up Comedy. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk (1) Mendeskripsikan Kompetisi tanpa strategi situasi, (2) Mendeskripsikan Kompetisi keakraban situasi, (3) Kompetisi formal situasi wacana humor dan (4) Mendeskripsikan Kompetisi tersamar situasi wacana humor. Pendekatan pragmatik dipilih dalam penelitian ini yang mempelajari siatuasi strategi kesantunan. Sumber data pada youtube dengan judul Cak Lontong Stand Up Comedy di BPSDM JATIM. Metode kualitatif verbal  untuk mendeskripsikan berupa huruf sesuai makna dan analisis kutipan data. Sumber data ini berasal dari program youtube. Teknik pengumpulan data teknik baca dan teknik catat. Hasil dan Pembahasan dibagi menjadi empat yaitu (1) Kompetisi tanpa strategi Cak Lontong memberikan kritikan zaman sekarang kepada lawan tutur, (2) Kompetisi keakraban strategi Cak Lontong Perhatian Sapaan, (3) Kompetisi formal strategi Cak Lontong Tentang Peraturan Pemerintahan dan (4) Kompetisi tersamar Perbandingan Kejadian. Jadi penutur dan lawan tutur memiliki kemaknaan berbeda sesuai dengan strategi.Kata Kunci: Pragmastilistika; Kompetisi situasi; Cak Lontong; Strategi Kesopanan.

Abstract

This study examines the film The Architecture of Love using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, which focuses on inner conflict and the process of self-recovery. The objectives of this study are to (1) describe the inner conflicts of the characters Raia and River based on the theory of the id, ego, and superego, and (2) describe the forms of self-recovery of the characters Raia and River after trauma. The theory used for analysis is Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method. The data sources were obtained from the film The Architecture of Love and secondary data sources, such as scientific journals. The research data consisted of film narratives related to the id, ego, super-ego, and the main characters' self-recovery process. The analysis techniques are (1) observing the film, (2) collecting data by recording behavioral phenomena that reflect the elements of the id, ego, superego, and the main characters' self-recovery process, (3) presenting the data and drawing conclusions. The results of this study show that there are four pieces of id data related to spontaneous emotions, desire for love, and closing oneself off from others. There are four ego data related to providing space for healing, doing productive things such as writing and drawing, and opening up again. There are two super ego data related to not easily opening one's heart before the trauma is gone and rediscovering life and new enthusiasm. There is also a form of self-recovery when both of them begin to open up to accept others, socialize, rediscover life, and find new enthusiasm. Keywords: Internal conflict, Self-healing, Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis, Film The Architecture of Love

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the moral, social, and aesthetic values contained in the film 1 Kakak 7 Ponakan by Arswendo Atmowiloto through a pragmatic literary criticism approach. This approach was chosen because it emphasizes the relationship between literary works and their audiences, and assesses the effects they have on the recipients of the message, both in terms of usefulness and aesthetic experience. The research method used is qualitative with documentation techniques, where data is obtained from the film as the main source. The results show that this film displays the values of responsibility, compassion, tolerance, and togetherness that shape the moral and social awareness of the audience, and presents the beauty of language and visuals that strengthen the aesthetic experience. Thus, this film functions not only as entertainment, but also as an effective educational medium to convey life messages. This study provides implications that film can be used as a medium for moral and character learning, and opens up opportunities for further research on audience responses and comparisons with other literary works.Keywords: Pragmatic Literary Criticism, Moral Values, 1 Kakak 7 Ponakan film

Abstract

Integrating the Arabic language curriculum between traditional and modern pesantren has become an essential discourse in responding to contemporary educational demands. Traditional pesantren emphasize mastery of Arabic through classical texts (kitab kuning) with the sorogan and bandongan methods, while modern pesantren apply structured curricula, linguistic competence, and communicative approaches. This conceptual article aims to present a theoretical exploration of integration patterns, philosophical foundations, and potential models that can harmonize these two curriculum orientations. The discussion shows that integration can be achieved through curriculum synthesis, combining classical literacy with communicative Arabic, strengthening teacher competence, and designing learning models that balance tradition and modernity. The study contributes theoretically to the development of a holistic Arabic language curriculum in pesantren.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the factors that influence the formation of the character Sato Reang’s personality and to analyze the structure and dynamics of his personality based on Carl Gustav Jung’s psychoanalytic theory. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method using a literary psychology approach. The data source is the novel Anjing Mengeong Kucing Menggonggong by Eka Kurniawan. Data collection techniques include intensive reading, note-taking, and interpretation using Jungian psychoanalysis as the analytical tool. The findings show that Sato Reang’s personality formation is influenced by repressive social and religious experiences since childhood, particularly his relationships with authoritarian figures and the imposition of religious values. These experiences give rise to inner conflicts and shape a resistant personality that is deeply involved in a search for meaning. Psychologically, Sato’s ego develops reflectively with a dominant introverted attitude and the functions of feeling and intuition. His personal unconscious is dominated by paternal and religious complexes, while his collective unconscious reveals a rebellious persona, a destructive shadow, and an incomplete journey toward the self. His personality dynamics reflect the principles of equivalence, entropy, progression, and regression, indicating psychic tension resulting from the conflict between inner needs and social pressures. Thus, the character of Sato Reang represents an individual who fails to complete the individuation process due to persistent trauma and repression within his psychic structure.Keywords: Jungian psychoanalysis, consciousness, unconsciousness, personality dynamics, Sato Reang.

Abstract

Bullying is one of the serious social problems in the school environment, especially at the Junior High School (SMP) level. Bullying behavior not only affects students' academic achievement but also threatens mental health and character formation. Unfortunately, learning in schools often does not explicitly touch on this issue. This study aims to design and implement interactive learning media based on storyboards in drama learning as an educational effort to increase students' awareness of bullying. The method used is research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE model which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of the study were grade VIII junior high school students who were involved in making storyboards with the theme of bullying and implementing drama simulations. The results of the study showed that the use of storyboards as interactive media was able to increase participation, understanding of the storyline, and build empathy and courage in students in dealing with bullying issues. Drama simulations are an effective means for students to express ideas reflectively and contextually. This study recommends the integration of interactive media and acting in the curriculum as a contextual learning strategy that not only educates but also shapes students' character as a whole.Keyword: bullying, storyboard, drama, interactive media, contextual learning

Abstract

Budi Darma's short story collection, Orang-Orang Bloomington, contains stories set in American culture while still addressing common human anxieties. Budi Darma's writing style, which tends toward the absurd and reflective, creates a complex narrative experience. The objectives of this study include analyzing representation and uncovering the meaning of symbols and icons in Orang-Orang Bloomington. The research data consist of narrative excerpts, dialogue, and descriptions containing symbols and icons. Supporting instruments, such as data tables, were used to facilitate the classification and analysis of signs. The data collection process involved several stages: reading all short stories in their entirety, identifying sections of the text containing semiotic signs, noting relevant quotations, grouping data based on sign types according to Peirce's classification (icons and symbols), and compiling selected quotations for further analysis. The results show that symbols depict alienation, inner emptiness, and the characters' identity crises, and form deeper meanings within the narrative structure. This finding confirms that the use of semiotic signs in short stories not only enriches the narrative, but also reflects existential themes such as social alienation and the search for the meaning of life

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna denotatif, konotatif, dan mitos dalam cerita rakyat Situs Buyut Banjar dan Sumur Tlumpah menggunakan teori semiotika Roland Barthes serta mengembangkan hasilnya menjadi bahan ajar sastra lokal. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh upaya pelestarian nilai-nilai budaya Indramayu melalui kajian sastra yang bermakna edukatif. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Data utama diperoleh dari teks cerita rakyat dalam buku Sejarah Indramayu cetakan ketiga yang diterbitkan oleh Dinas Perpustakaan dan Arsip Kabupaten Indramayu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua cerita rakyat mengandung tanda-tanda budaya yang mencerminkan nilai moral, sosial, dan spiritual masyarakat Indramayu. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua cerita rakyat tersebut mengandung simbol-simbol budaya yang mencerminkan nilai-nilai moral, sosial, dan spiritual masyarakat Indramayu. Nilai-nilai ini sangat relevan untuk dikembangkan menjadi bahan ajar sastra lokal yang selaras dengan prinsip-prinsip Kurikulum Merdeka.Kata Kunci: semiotika, Roland Barthes, cerita rakyat, bahan ajar, sastra lokal
