Abstract

At the beginning of a child's life, of course, always goes through a stage called language acquisition. With language skills, you can interact with other people. The purpose of this study was to identify the stages of language acquisition in children, a case study on Nick. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive method that seeks to describe the stages of language acquisition in Nick. The procedure is that data is collected, reduced and analyzed about the stages of language acquisition for Nick. This can be found when Nick invites his parents to avoid disaster hazards with various invitations such as in the disaster mitigation video that he has watched before.

Abstract

There is something structurally amiss in a culture that only values women for their capacity to bear a child which is reflected in misrepresentations in literature that confined women to stereotypes that creates an endless room for debate as to what future is in store for women particularly in post-humanist literature. This paper addresses how female fertility is framed in the texts of Margaret Atwood- The Handmaid’s Tale and The Testaments (dystopian) and Charlotte Perkins Gilman- Herland and With Her in Ourland (utopian). Using transitivity analysis, it aims to examine representation and roles attached to feminine fertility, to discourse fertility in utopian and dystopian texts, and evaluate the politics of the female body in relation to fertility and reproduction. Clearly, Atwood’s dystopian fiction critically examined the oppressive and utilitarian view towards the female body which contrasted with Gilman’s utopic body autonomy. It is revealed that a sense of feminine liberty is associated with utopian fiction contrary to body bondage depicted in dystopian texts which have deeply elaborated a politicized view towards the future of the post-female body and women in general.

Abstract

Public Service Advertisements (PSA) are one of the liaisons between the government and the community in disseminating information about the spread and prevention of the Covid-19 virus. This study aims to describe the types of assertive and directive illocutionary speech acts in public service advertisements on YouTube. In this research, the method used is descriptive qualitative method. The data collection technique in this study used the listening technique, namely listening to seven PSA video shows with the Covid-19 pandemic theme randomly on the YouTube channel Direktorat Promkes dan PM Kemenkes RI . The instrument in this study is the researcher himself, assisted by a table of assertive and directive illocutionary speech acts instruments. The data analysis technique was carried out in several stages: 1) data identification, 2) data classification and, 3) data description. The results showed that there were 10 utterances including assertive illocutionary speech acts with the types of informing, explaining, interpreting, and telling and 14 utterances of directive illocutionary speech acts with the types of prohibiting, ordering, inviting, obliging, suggesting, and warning.

Abstract

Adequate vocabulary mastery, especially in the environmental field, is the basic capital for students to be able to express their ideas well, especially those with environmental themes. Based on this, this research is motivated by the phenomenon of vocabulary mastery in the field of student environment which is relatively minimal. The purpose of this study was to describe the level of vocabulary mastery in the environment field for Grade VIII students of junior high school. This type of this research is quantitative research using descriptive methods. Quantitative analysis is used to measure and describe the level of environmental vocabulary mastery of students. The population in this study were all class VIII students of SMP Negeri 6 Kubung for the academic year 2022/2023 with a total of 22 students. The sample in this study amounted to 22 students using the total sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through a vocabulary mastery test in the environmental field. Based on the acquisition and processing of research data, the results obtained were that the level of environmental vocabulary mastery of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 6 Kubung was in the range of 66-75 on a scale of 10 with a score of 74.03. Based on the results of this study it was concluded that in terms of vocabulary mastery in the field of environment students were at more than sufficient qualifications.

Abstract

Best-seller literary works in Indonesia are usually rich with life lessons and good moral values. This study aims to describe the moral values contained in the novel Sang Pemimpi by Andrea Hirata. This study used descriptive-qualitative method. This study uses data in the form of quotations from the dialogues of the characters that contain the value of moral education in the novel Sang Pemimpi by Andrea Hirata. The data collection technique used in the form of library technique as a basic technique, as well as reading and note-taking techniques as an advanced technique. The data analysis technique was carried out using dialectical techniques and content analysis techniques. The moral values in Andrea Hirata’s novel Sang Pemimpi include helpfulness, determination and commitment, cooperation, and humility.

Abstract

Literary works are often used as a medium to criticize and explain social problems experienced by society. One of these literary works is the drama script West Side Story by Arthur Laurenst. This study focuses on the criticism of several social problems described in the play West Side Story. This study uses the method of content analysis of literary texts which are then interpreted by researchers. Research data sourced from the play West Side Story was collected using the library research method. Through analysis with the Sociology of Literature approach which focuses on sociological aspects in a work, it is found that there is a critique of social problems described in the play West Wide Story. The criticism is related to the problem of poverty which leads to violence and deprivation; juvenile delinquency in the form of immoral acts as a result of family disharmony; wars that cause damage to the natural environment; and degrading and harassing women.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the problems of beauty and normality that develop in society. Women are often seen as objects that must be judged and contested for their beauty. Beautiful and normal is considered a solid and patent construction. However, the meaning of beautiful and normal is not stable. The purpose of this study is to deconstruct the structure that is considered to be established regarding beauty and normality. The method used to deconstruct this structure is the deconstruction method offered by Derrida. The data source of this research is the novel Maya by Ayu Utami, while the data in this study are words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs that contain discourses of beauty and normalcy in the novel Maya. Furthermore, data analysis is carried out through the study of binary oppositions to then look for the hierarchical structure in the binary oppositions. After obtaining the binary opposition and hierarchical structure, then the deconstruction process is carried out. The results obtained in this study include the normative structure of beauty and normality in the novel Maya, binary opposition in the novel Maya, and the deconstruction of beauty and normal in the novel Maya.

Abstract

The background of this research is the presence of motion imagery and auditory imagery in the poetry anthology of Langit Air Langit Basah by Akhmad T Bacco which raises the value of beauty and poetic poetry. The purpose of this study was to describe motion and auditory imagery in the anthology of the poem Langit Air Langit Basah by Akhmad T Bacco. This type of research is a qualitative research using descriptive method. This research was found 25 auditory imagery data and 36 motion data. The most dominant imagery is found in the poetry anthology Langit Air Langit Basah Akhmad T Bacco's literature is a motion image with 36 data because the themes raised in the poem are more about expressing sadness, criticism of injustice, arbitrariness, disappointment, and regret for life. Poets express all ideas, thoughts, and feelings in looking at something through words that are not clearly expressed or words that have connotations. While the imagery that was found the least was the gustatory image, which was 4 data. It can be concluded that the poet of the anthology of poetry Langit Air Langit Basah impressionism line. Impressionism is a literary genre that tries to describe a momentary impression of something the poem observes. Impressionism depicts something like a sketch, everything is not clearly depicted.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ecranization process that occurs in the characters, stories, and settings in the novel Balada Sepasang Kekasih Gila by Han Gagas with the film Balada Sepasang Kekasih Gila directed by Anggy Umbara. The data for this research are the novel Balada Sepasang Kekasih Gila by Han Gagas and the film Balada Sepasang Kekasih Gila, directed by Anggy Umbara. The research method used in this research is comparative descriptive. The source of the data in this research is the novel Balada Sepasang Kekasih Gila by Han Gagas with the film Balada Sepasang Kekasih Gila, directed by Anggy Umbara. Data collection techniques using libraries and observations. The results in this study indicate that: (1) The process of ecranization that occurs in the characters has reduced the number of characters from 7 characters to 3 characters. (2) The ecranization process in which stories are added, subtracted, and changed. (3) The process of ecranization that occurs in the setting of the place and time of the addition, subtraction, and changes. Based on the data that has been analyzed, it can be concluded that the process of curating the novel into the film form has various reductions, additions, and changes in the plot, characters, and storyline. This is done to adjust the duration shown in the film.

Abstract

The legend of Watu Dodol which is still maintained to this day because it is considered a story that really happened by the people of Banyuwangi so that it gave rise to the traditions of the legend of the origin of Watu Dodol among the people of Boyolangu and surrounding areas. This research aims to describe the social function of the legend of Watu Dodol in the tradition of Puter Kayun and describe the stone that is the place where the tradition of puter kayun is carried out. This research uses the phenomenological approach used to reveal the phenomenon of the formation of watu dodol that has been experienced by the boyolangu community and its surroundings. Data collection is done with observation techniques, interviews, and document analysis. The results showed that the legend of Watu Dodol had an impact on the traditions preserved to date by the local community. This is related to the social function obtained by the community from traditions that are carried out routinely once a year in the month of Shawwal. The social function of watu dodol legend in the tradition of puter Kayun is among others as a means of entertainment, a means of education, strengthening social solidarity between communities, and as a group identity.
