Abstract

The emergence of Communication Science in Indonesia was related to the history of this science in Europe and America. The term “communication science” (America’s tradition) was noted to have replaced “Publisistic” (German’s tradition). M. Alwi Dahlan is an important figure behind that. Communication Science then has been developing, but still dominated by applied studies. Whereas to be a discipline, the study of history and philosophy of science shouldn’t be ignored. Furthermore, the development of a science indicates the contribution of it’s intellctuals. Here is the importance of studying Dahlan’s thoughts on communication. The researcher applied a Gadamerian perspective hermeneutic to interpret Dahlan’s writings between 1980-1990s. Based on metanarrative awareness and the spirit of non-Western perspective studies, the researcher has explored them through hermeneutic circle until getting creative meanings (Bildung). The conclusion is that Dahlan’s contribution is contextualizing or bringing Communication Science ‘down to earth’ in Indonesia especially related to development, environment, information-technology, through an eclectic perspective and by which human being as a key resource. Dahlan’s ideas has significance in the development of history and philosophy of Communication Science. Abstract

The existence of the community information group (Kelompok Informasi Masyarakat/ KIM) plays the strategic role in establishing the human resources. Furthermore, this community holds its capacity as both the social community and non-formal organization, oftentimes doing a direct interaction with the people. This scrutiny is to analyze the patterns of communication run by the community information group in Lumbangrejo, Jatiarjo and Tretes villages, which are parts of the Prigen sub-district, Pasuruan Regency, East Java.This qualitative research is set out through a descriptive case study method, which is through investigating the real-life contexts phenomena, by taking advantage of various resources. The type of this study is a descriptive, that only describes or shows the cases in more depth. The outcome of this probe is to reveal the communication patterns of the community information group above in undertaking its role as the disseminators of information, technology, and innovation to the public.The conclusion of this analysis figures that patterns of communication applied in the community information group of Prigen Subdistrict, Pasuruan Regency, are the combinations amid interpersonal communication, utilization of technology and two ways communication. Nonetheless, as the part of opinion leaders, this community yet needs to strengthen its human resources in the form of transformation of both expertise and automation, whether it is supported by the government, universities, and NGOs. Thus, performance can be significantly optimal.

Abstract

This Paper aims to find out how the dynamics of Muhammadiyah's requirements in the Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta during the 2019 election period on the candidate for the nomination of the senator who will serve as the board of Regional representative of the Republic of Indonesia. In conducting this research the author collects data in the form of polls and interviews with representatives of Muhammadiyah cadre of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, then the data that authors acquire in the surgical use of personality theory that was triggered by Raymond Cattell as the surgical knife of the analysis. The results of this study show that Muhammadiyah still has to increase the political awareness of cadres to be more given the political situation. Even though the culture of an excellent organic cadre has established in the natural cadres of Muhammadiyah, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, the culture needs to be maintained and enhanced to harmony in Muhammadiyah.

Abstract

This research uses interpretative paradigm with qualitative method through data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews. The discussed phenomenon through qualitative descriptive frames were public relations practices that occurred in Bangka Belitung Province government by targeting public relations expert-level institutions, and skilled level institutions of public relations as a research subject that was reinforced with department heads and the assessment team as professionals are considered able to provide an assessment of the role of institutions of public relations aim to strengthen and obtain the deep of data. Total respondents were 38 people selected through purposive sampling with details social institution 20 people and experts as many as 9 people, added by 4 heads of agencies that were superior institution of public relations, as well as 5 people who assessed the dupak directly. The results showed that the public relations practices in Bangka Belitung were measured through categorization namely the understanding of public relation practitioners to define the public relations and its duties, the position and role of public relations practitioners in each agency, vertical and horizontal responses accepted by public relations practitioners in agencies, and the communication model in the scope of the Provincial Government of Bangka Belitung has not ideal yet. The public relations practice that refers to the Permenpan-RB standard cannot yet be maximally implemented because it is constrained by many factors including the superior policy factor. Meanwhile the implications of the implementation of Permenpan-RB are the facilities of public relations in carrying out their duties because the Permenpan is the reference standard. The public relations tasks are also directed, focused and planned. Permenpan-RB is also a legal basis for Bangka Belitung?s public relations in their steps. Keywords : Public relations roles, technical roles, government managers, public relations, Broom and Dozier

Abstract

This study aims to explain the implementation of government policies related to a 30% quota for women in the East Java PKS DPW, in addition to knowing its implementation. The social controversy responding to the PKS policy in presenting female legislative candidates aims to show to the public that there is a conflict between government policy and Islamic dogma which is the principle in the PKS. This study used qualitative research methods. The results showed that the implementation of government policies related to the 30% quota for women in the PKS East Java DPW had exceeded those specified, which was at 46%, whereas according to their interpretation that the prevailing religious dogma had no conflict between prevailing teachings with the government's policy of 30% of women's quota, all of them have their share in life. Al-Quran Surah An-Nisa verse 34 and Surah Al-Ahzab verse 33 textually prohibit women from becoming leaders, this is a source of religious dogma. Social controversy about women becoming leaders is eliminated when they have competence and capacity because the existence of leaders here is not in the context of congregational prayer but rather in carrying out state and national work programs.

Abstract

This research is about Marketing Communication of religious tourism in Lamongan Regency, which is interesting to study, because Lamongan Regency is rich in various kinds of new tourism potential to be developed, one of which is the Indonesian Islamic Art Museum tour. However, the Department of Tourism and Culture has not been able to maximize the important role in the development of tourist attraction. So this research aims to know and describe marketing communication strategy and the obstacles faced by Tourism and Culture Department in developing Tourism in Lamongan regency, and also know how visitor response to tour Indonesian Islamic Art Museum.This research is done the location of Tourism and Culture of the Lamongan Regency. The problem of this research is how the marketing communication strategy and the obstacle of Tourism and Culture Department develop tourism Indonesian Islamic Art Museum in the Lamongan regency and how the visitor response to tour Indonesian Islamic Art Museum. This research uses a qualitative descriptive qualitative paradigm method through various stages of preliminary observation, interview, and documentation related to the marketing communication strategy of the Tourism and Culture Department.The results showed that the implementation of the marketing communication strategy of Tourism and Kebudayan Department in developing tourism Indonesian Islamic Art Museum by doing stages knowing the potential of tourism Indonesian Islamic Art Museum, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Then the obstacles found in the implementation of marketing communication strategy is the lack of funds, communicators, messages, and media. Then the response of visitors is satisfied with the facilities and infrastructure of tourist Indonesian Islamic Art Museum.Keywords: Marketing Communication, Tourism and Culture Department.

Abstract

Self disclosure is one of the keys to success of interpersonal communication. Because in self disclosure, communicators will express some things about themselves to the communicant. In this case, some of the students of the Communication Sciences of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Muhammadiyah Jember expressed themselves through the Instagram Story application feature, which Instagram is a social media which is a public space and can be seen and accessed by many people. Therefore, it is necessary to know how to use Instagram Story and how self disclosure is carried out through the Instagram Story application feature among students of the Communication Studies Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Muhammadiyah Jember University. The focus of this study was to find out how self-disclosure was carried out by students of the Communication Sciences Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Jember. To describe the focus of the study, the research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, with data collection methods in the form of interviews with several 2015 Communication Studies students, class 2016, batch 2017, and batch 2018. The technique for determining the data sources that researchers use is snowball sampling, where the researcher chooses one Communication Science student who will be the key informant to then provide instructions, who are the informants from the Communication Science students who are competent to provide data.The results obtained from this study are the first, students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Science Communication Study Program at Muhammadiyah Jember University always use Instagram Story every day. Some of them even share content every day to Instagram Story, some only open their accounts every day to see posts from their friends without sharing content to Instagram Story. Second, self disclosure carried out by students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Sciences Communication University of Muhammadiyah Jember is 1) Open Area, 2) Blind Area, 3) Hidden Area, 3) Unknown Area. Open areas and hidden areas are the areas most frequently carried out by informants in this study, almost all informants were included in the area. In the blind area there were only a few informants, and in unknown areas none was included, because in this area it was explained that there was information about informants that were not known to informants and even other people through Instagram Story. To explore this area, intense and intimate interactions can be carried out. However, this does not apply to self-disclosure through Instagram Story, because Instagram Story is a public space that can be seen anytime by anyone.Keywords: Interpersonal Communication, Self Disclosure, Social Media, Instagram Story.

Abstract

Brand is the important thing in the process of buying a product. The majority of the Indonesia population is Muslim. Many products in the market are doubtful about the level of halalness. This study examines the representation of Islamic brands of coffee products to influence purchasing decisions. Although many factors influence purchasing decisions such as price and taste, the focus of research remains on Islamic brands. This study is entitled Representation of Islamic Brands in Coffee Products - Roland Barthes's Semiotic Analysis of Coffee Product Brands Sakinah. The Semiotic Roland Barthes approach which is the basis of the analysis of this research is because many cultural elements will be involved. This qualitative research approach with analytical triangulation techniques which are data triangulation, method triangulation and theory triangulation. The results of this study are Islamic brands be easily accepted by the Indonesian market, which is predominantly Muslim. By using Islamic brands that have an impact on consumer confidence in the halalness of the product. In addition, using familiar words such as Sakinah will speed up the process of receiving products in the community. Thus, it will be easily to promoting products in the Indonesia because Islamic brands similar with halal food.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the acculturation of inter-ethnic Javanese language and ethnic Madurese in Jember regency. This study uses qualitative research methods in descriptive form. The author raises the theme of acculturation Pendalungan culture is based on observations in the community of Pendalungan Jember which uses two languages at once when communicating. This uniqueness is the attraction of this new culture to be studied. Javanese culture and Madurese culture that merge into one and form a new culture gives color to cultural diversity in Indonesia. This unique Pendalungan dialect is only found in Jember Regency. The problem in this research is how the acculturation of Javanese language and Madurese language in Pendalungan culture, Factors that influence the occurrence of acculturation of Javanese and Madurese languages in Pendalungan culture, obstacles to the acculturation of Javanese and Madurese languages in Pendalungan culture. The results of this study indicate that the acculturation of Javanese and Madurese languages occurs due to migration of residents from other regions to Jember Regency. The cause of the acculturation of Javanese and Madurese languages in Jember is due to historical factors, social and economic contacts. Some obstacles to the acculturation of Javanese and Madurese languages in Jember are ethnocentric, native cultural backgrounds, and languages

Abstract

One important part of an organization is external publics such as customers. Holding some events/activities by organization to their publics is often a necessary things to do. PT Foody Direktori Indonesia is a restaurant directory service company in Indonesia that holds customer gathering activities. This research focused on the implementation of customer gathering acitivites conducted by PT Foody Direktori Indonesia. The objective of this research is to see how the implementation of customer gathering and also to see the obstacles and efforts in the implementation of gathering. To analyze the gathering activities,  this research use the concept from Dennis L. Wilcox of 8 stages public relations activities planning that contain situation, objectives, audience, strategy, tactics, calendar/timetable, budget, and evaluation. This research uses a qualitative method and interviews as the data collection technique. The result of this research is PT Foody Direktori Indonesia conducts their customer gathering activity  according to the 8 stages of public relations activites planning by Dennis L. Wilcox. From this research it was also found that PT Foody Direktori Indonesia have some obstacles during planning gathering activities and already have made an effort to resolve these obstacles.
