Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using the make-a-match cooperative learning model on children's numeracy skills. This quasi-experimental research was conducted at Fadnur Aisyah Islamic Kindergarten, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Researchers took 30 students aged 5-6 years with a specific purpose as a sample. We were collecting data using observation sheets to assess children's numeracy skills. The research instruments include mentioning numbers, counting pictures, connecting with symbols, and adding simplicity. The data analysis technique used is the one-way ANOVA test. The results showed that the average numeracy ability of children using the make-a-match learning model was higher than the expository learning model. Therefore, the implications of the make-a-match cooperative learning model can support numeracy skills in early childhood

Abstract

This study aims to examine the experience of several Muslim married couples when they have their first child. Some aspects that will be explored are related to feelings, expectations, and factors that support the views and practices of husbands and wifes’ parenting for their first child. This study applies a narrative inquiry approach by collecting data using a semi-structured interview technique, where the participants' narratives are analyzed thematically. Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory and a review of Islamic teachings are the references in the discussion of this study. The results show that the dynamics of emotions, expectations, and strategies are carried out by each couple when they have their first child. This study contributes to the views and practices of Muslim married couples, as well as insight into the importance of cooperation, communication, and support from the social environment for married couples in facing the new experience of welcoming their first child into the family. This research involves young married couples from various cultures in Indonesia to see variations in emotional dynamics and forms of support that can be used as a basis for further research.

Abstract

This quantitative research explores the differences in early childhood cognitive development levels based on the mother’s educational background. Using observation-based performance assessments, measure children’s cognitive development through 3 aspects: child social interaction, understanding of symbols, and reasoning involving samples. This study involved 30 children aged 5-6 years divided into two groups. The first group was children who had mothers with university-level education, while the other group was children with high school-level education. The collected data were analyzed to describe the demographic char samples’ demographic characteristics using an independent t-test to measure cognitive differences between the two groups of children. Significantly the educated mother results showed differences in cognitive development between the groups. Children with highly educated mothers have better cognitive abilities than children with mothers from a lower level of education. This research has implications for the importance of parental education to optimize children’s cognitive development.

Abstract

The 2013 curriculum for early childhood education with an integrative thematic and scientific approach is very suitable for integrating STEAM-based learning as it is carried out through various contexts to bring subject matter closer to everyday life or the themes are close to the world of children. However, children's social skills have not developed well; children have not been able to cooperate with their peers. The aim of this research was to develop early childhood cooperation by implementing STEAM project-based learning (PjBL). This study used classroom action research and it involved 15 children with an age range of 5-6 years in Salsabil Early Childhood Education, Telagawaru, West Nusa Tenggara. Data were obtained through observation regarding the activities of the teachers and children. The result showed that the cooperation among children improved significantly in cycle 1 to 3 after implementing STEAM PjBL. Therefore, the implication of STEAM PJBL can develop the ability to work together in early childhood.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the project method on the environmental care character of early childhood. The research uses a quantitative approach with a Pre-Experimental Design research design, the type of one-group pre-test-post-test design. The sampling technique used was total sampling. The data collected through the instrument was compiled based on expert theory which consists of disposing of their garbage, watering the plants, and helping to care for the plants. The results obtained from applying the project method to children whose environmental care character has not yet developed indicate that the environmental care character in children increases after the treatment given using the project method is proven by t count greater than t table with an alpha significance level of 0.05. Thus, teachers can use other these methods as a strategy to develop environmental care characteristics from an early age. To solve the problem of environmental care character according to other age stages, further action research can be carried out.
