Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of the Pasahat Tondi ceremony within the Ugamo Malim community in Medan City as a response to modernity and urbanization. In a heterogeneous metropolitan environment, Ugamo Malim adherents face challenges in maintaining traditional rituals originally based on nature and specific geographical spaces in the Toba region. Using a descriptive qualitative method with a theological-sociological approach. The findings indicate a phenomenon of "Transposition of Sacredness," where the essence of the ritual is preserved through material negotiation, such as using water sanctified through prayer as a substitute for natural springs (mual). Furthermore, this ceremony functions as a political-cultural act to reclaim identity space and as a fortress for the ancient Batak language. The results conclude that the Parmalim community in Medan undergoes managerial and digital recontextualization of rituals to maintain the spiritual resilience of the soul (tondi), ensuring it remains relevant without losing its sacred substance amidst the urban "concrete jungle.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how religious narcissism shapes socio-religious behavioral patterns within society and to provide an overview of the expanding phenomenon through the relevance of Jürgen Habermas’s public sphere theory in the Indonesian religious context. This research employs a qualitative method using a literature study approach supported by netnographic methods. The findings reveal that religious narcissism within the public sphere is manifested through the use of religious symbols, narratives, and performative practices in both social and digital spaces as instruments of image construction, identity legitimization, and contestation among religious groups. This phenomenon is influenced by identity politics, majority logic, and the legacy of religious conflicts, all of which contribute to the distortion of the public sphere as conceptualized by Habermas. Religious narcissism not only reinforces social polarization and religious exclusivism, but also weakens tolerance, intensifies intolerance, and hinders efforts toward religious moderation and social cohesion in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the extent to which the contextual approach influences students' critical thinking skills. The method used in this study is a correlational approach, which is an approach that aims to identify the influence between one or more variables in a group of subjects. The subjects in this study were 52 Buddhist students at SMA Negeri 1 Donorojo. The results of data analysis show that there is a significant influence between the contextual approach and students' critical thinking skills. This is evidenced by the regression coefficient value of 0.569, which indicates that students' critical thinking skills are influenced by the contextual approach. The simple linear regression equation obtained is Y = 97.261 + 0.569X.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze John Dewey's thinking on multicultural education as well as reflect on its critical relevance to the practice of Christian Religious Education. This study uses a conceptual literature review method with a thematic analysis approach to Dewey's main work, especially Democracy and Education, which is then compared with Geneva Gay's thoughts on modern multicultural education. The results of the study show that Dewey views education as a democratic process that places experience, social interaction, and active participation as a means of forming inclusive character in a pluralistic society. Multiculturalism in Dewey's perspective is not simply an acknowledgment of differences, but a social praxis that encourages dialogue, empathy, and cross-cultural solidarity. In reflection on Christian Religious Education, Dewey's thought makes an important contribution to the development of more dialogical, humanist, and transformative learning in the midst of Indonesia's diverse reality. Christian religious education not only serves as a means of transmitting the doctrine of faith, but also as a space for the formation of students who are able to live inclusively, respect differences, and build peaceful social relations in a multicultural society.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of Christian education based on local wisdom in the indigenous people of the Moi Tribe in Southwest Papua, as well as analyze its contribution to the formation of character, cultural identity, and spirituality of the community. The approach used in this study is qualitative with a descriptive-analytical type. The results of the study show that the indigenous people of the Moi Tribe have a strong local wisdom system, one of which is through the Kambik traditional education system which functions as a medium of transmission of cultural values for generations. This system contains values such as leadership, social solidarity, respect for nature, and awareness of cultural identity. The findings of the study also show that there is an alignment between the values of local wisdom and the teachings of the Christian faith, thus allowing integration through an inculturative approach. However, the implementation of education based on local wisdom still faces challenges, such as the dominance of a formal curriculum that is less contextual, the limitation of educators who understand local culture, and the influence of modernization that causes a shift in values in the younger generation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of Sila learning (X₁) and loving-kindness meditation (X₂) on adaptive behavior among 85 students at SDN 2 Mareje. Data collection techniques consisted of questionnaires and observations, while data analysis techniques included classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, t-tests, F-tests, and the coefficient of determination. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the coefficient of determination (R Square) was 0.779, indicating that 77.9% of the variability in students’ adaptive behavior was explained simultaneously by Sila learning and loving-kindness meditation, while the remaining 22.1% was influenced by other factors outside the research model. The multiple correlation coefficient (R) of 0.738 indicates a strong and positive relationship between the combination of the two independent variables and students’ adaptive behavior.

Abstract

Parish priest leadership plays an important role in building parish vitality and active involvement in church life. This study aims to analyze the influence of parish priest leadership on parish vitality at the parish level. The research method used a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression design. Data were collected through questionnaires involving parishioners and analyzed using SPSS software. The results of the analysis show that parish priest leadership has a significant effect on parishioner vitality with a regression coefficient of 0.449, a t-value of 7.087, and a significance of p < 0.001. The R² value of 0.175 indicates that parish priest leadership explains 17.5% of the variation in parishioner vitality, while the rest is influenced by other factors outside the model. These findings emphasize the importance of effective, relational, and empowering pastoral leadership in increasing parishioner involvement. The implications of this study highlight the need to develop an adaptive and collaborative model for pastoral leadership training and to encourage broader involvement of the laity.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the theological meaning of the phrase "women remain silent" in 1 Timothy 2:11, 12 and its implications for the role and involvement of women and its impact on the spiritual growth of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (GMAHK) congregation in the Pangkalan Kerinci area. This article shows that the commandment to "keep silent" is not an absolute commandment and prohibition against women's ministry but rather a situational one in which it has the basis of the rampant heretical teaching practiced by women in Ephesus at that time. The command was an effort to prevent false teaching in Ephesus. It is evident that women's involvement in ministry has a positive impact on the dynamics of worship and the spiritual growth of the congregation. Therefore, the church must understand the context of this text and open up equal spaces of ministry based on the gift of the Holy Spirit and not gender restrictions.
