Abstract

his study aims to examine the levels of independence and resilience in children with intellectual disabilities and to evaluate the effectiveness of the Self-Development Training program at SLB-C YPPLB Makassar in enhancing these two-character traits. The research employed a mixed-methods approach with an explanatory sequential design. The sample consisted of five children with mild intellectual disabilities selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires (quantitative) and interviews (qualitative). The results showed a significant improvement in independence and resilience, shifting from predominantly low to entirely high levels after participating in the program. The findings conclude that Self-Development Training effectively enhances the independence and resilience of children with intellectual disabilities. This study implies that the Self-Development Training program holds strong potential to be integrated as an essential component of educational services in special schools, particularly in fostering character development among children with intellectual disabilities.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the underlying factors contributing to underachievement in gifted students and to formulate early intervention strategies that schools can implement. A qualitative case study approach focused on a high school student with strong academic potential who experienced a significant decline in academic performance, placing them at risk of not being promoted to the next grade. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the main factors contributing to underachievement include a lack of interest in certain subjects, an unsupportive social environment, and unstable family dynamics caused by the absence of a father figure. The study concludes that early identification and collaborative interventions involving subject teachers, school counselors, and parents play a crucial role in helping gifted students regain their academic performance in line with their potential. The implications of this study serve as a reference for teachers in implementing early screening and targeted intervention programs for gifted students experiencing underachievement.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the experiences, contributing factors, impacts, and coping strategies related to insomnia among final-year college students. The subjects of this research were two college students, identified by the initials HM and MD, who had experienced insomnia for more than one month. A qualitative case study method was employed, with in-depth interviews as the primary data collection tool. The findings indicate that both participants suffered from sleep disturbances triggered by academic pressure, excessive anxiety, frequent use of electronic devices before bedtime, and unhealthy lifestyle habits. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of psychosocial support from educational institutions and the need to enhance college students’ awareness of stress management and healthy sleep patterns. The implications of this research serve as a basis for higher education institutions to design psychological support programs that are more responsive to the specific needs of final-year college students.
