The effect of particle composition made of bamboo and water hyacinth on the dimensional stability and mechanical properties of resulted oriented strand boards (OSB) were investigated. Three layered boards were made from bamboo and water hyacinth in which bamboo strand was used as face/back layer and water hyacinth strand was used as core layer. The boards were manufactured using three levels of bamboo and water hyacinth compositions (50:50, 60:40 and 70:30) with 6 % isocyanate based on the strand oven dry weight. The results showed that dimensional stability of the OSB decreased with the increase of composition of water hyacinth strand on core layer. A higher composition of bamboo strand as face/back layer compared to water hyacinth strand resulted in increased modulus of elasticity and internal bond strength, but decreased the modulus of rupture. The bamboo and water hyacinth composition of 70:30 compositions showed better properties than other compositions. Key words: Bamboo, water hyacinth, composition, OSB

A study on the contribution of community forest to the community income in Tana Toraja Regency was implemented with the aim of identifying the community forest contribution to owners income and formulating the effort that can be carried out for enhancing the contribution. As the result, the community forest contribution to owners income is still very low (2.94% in average). Based on analysis result, the potencial revenue of community forest farming in Tana Toraja Regency can be 2.3 larger than the present obtaining revenue. The mentioned potencial revenue can be more increased by developing a more proportional allocation of the revenue to the related farmers (related communities) Key words : Community forest, contribution, community income, forest product and benefit

This research aimed to determine the role of rice husk ash as pozzolanic material in reducing water absorption of rice husk cement composite. Rice husk ash obtained by burning rice husk conventionally in kiln drum. Preparation of water absorption testing samples was conducted according to ASTM C 140, while ASTM C 90 used to evaluate the desired water absorption. Rice husk ash as of 40 % significantly reduced water absorption of the composite, but only rice husk ash of 20 % dan 30 % fulfilled the ASTM C 90 requirement. Addition of lime in the mixture increased the water absorption. Key words: pozzolamic, water absorption, rick husk, rice husk ash.

Palm sugar as one of product of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) which contributes to communities living in and around forests. However, the use and processing of products is still tradistional managed so as to produce results that have not been maximized. This study aims to analyses the income of palm sugar product for farmer groups who living in and around forest. The location of the study was in forest farmer groups in Labuaja Village, Cenrana Sub-District, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi. Sampling was carried out on each farmer group consisting of 10 people in three farmer groups with the number of respondents as many as 30 people conducted by simple random sampling. Data analysis was carried out through qualitative descriptive analysis and quantitative analysis. The results showed that the income of each farmer palm sugar per year was Rp. 9,562,012.Key words: forest farmer group; fixed cost; income analysis; palm sugar; variabel cost

A study on the management planning of Public Forest in Tana Toraja Regency was implemented with the aim of establishing a concept for forest product regulation in order to attain an optimum result and benefits in the interest of the owners and regional development. As the result, the public forest that located on 10 districts in Tana Toraja Regency can be organized into four Management Units. By an appropriate management treatments, every management unit can present an adequate and sustainable quantity of raw material for wood processing industries in this region. The productivity of forest natural resources is now decreasing and therefore rehabilitation efforts is urgently needed. Breeding of forest plant is the best solution to increase forest productivity in both quantity and quality. The biological reproduction can be conducted through seed production with fertilization. This research was aimed at determining the effect of fertilizing treatments on pod and seed production of different Glirisidia sepium provenances to find out the best provenance and best fertilizer dosage. Fertilization treatments showed a significant effect on the pod and seed production. On the other hand, the provenance and its interaction with fertilizing did not show any significant effects on the pod and seed production. The best performance was found on the fertilization treatment of 500 g resulting in the average production of 1,288 pods and 27,621 seeds/tree. Keywords: Fertilizing, Seed Production, Provenance, Glirisidia sepium

The cultivation of cocoa (Theobroma cacao) has been an important driver of tropical deforestation globally. Efforts to reverse this trend are focusing on the reintroduction of shade trees to cocoa plantations. Shade trees are valuable in enhancing biophysical conditions on cocoa fields and contribute to biodiversity and product diversification for smallholder producers. The aim of this study was to compare financial analysis of cocoa agroforestry between in state forest land and private land. Financial analysis was undertaken to assess its economic viability. Input–output data were collected from farmer by interview and participant observation. A discounted cash flow analysis was carried out to estimate the benefit-cost (B/C) ratio, net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR) at 6,4% discount rate. The results showed that the main combination of planting pattern that consist of cacao and banana (in state forest land), cacao and petai, cacao and durian (in private land) were financially feasible; the largest contribution was given by cacao at all planting patterns based on farmer household revenue structure. Key words: Financial analysis, cocoa, agroforestry, land tenure security

This study aims to determine the feseability of bioethanol production from lignocellulosic material by using simulataneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) processes with Aspergillus niger dan Saccharomyces cereviciae. Three different lignocellulosic materials namely sengon wood (Paraserianthes falcataria), gmelina wood (Gmelina arborea), pinus wood and (Pinus merkusii) were pretreated using kraft process to remove lignin content. Then, pulp was treated by using SSF processes. SSF runs were performed in 500 ml fermentors using a total slurry 200 ml. The substrate and nutrient media were autoclaved (121 oC and 20 minutes). The samples diluted to 2.5 % (w v-1) of total slurry was used as substrate. The substrate was added with 10 % (v v-1) A. niger (6.5 x 107 CFU cc-1) of total slurry and then inoculated with 10 % (v v-1) yeast S. cereviciae (1.5 x 109 CFU cc-1). The SSF experiments were run for 96 hours and the data were investigated periodically every 24 hours. The results showed that total of sugar and reducing sugar tended to decrease with time of inoculation whereas ethanol concentration increase significantly. The growth of A. niger and yeast S. cereviciae tended to incease in initial inoculation and decrease by the end of inoculation. The bioethanol concentration on sengon, gmelina, and pinus were 0.53, 0.45 and 0.31 % respectively and produced yields 3.61, 4.60 and 4.16% respectively. Key words: bioethanol, simultaneous saccharification and fermentation, Aspergillus niger, Saccharomyces cereviciae
