Abstract

Kabupaten Gowa has 63.099 ha forest area, consists of 24.226 ha of protected forest, 3.309 ha of conservation forest/recreation forest, and 35.554 ha of production forest. The value of forest resource can be estimated based on use value an non use value. Use value of forest resource in Kabupaten Goewa covers direct economic value wich is obtained from timber product and non timber product. While indirect economic value is obtained from iriigation water, fresh water, agriculture production increase, and forest recreation value and also contribution in labour section. Contribution of agricultural sector in Bruto Regional Domestic Product (Produk Domestik Regional Bruto = PDRB) of Kabupaten Gowa base on the data of 2000 to 2005 is high enough, more than half of PDRB of Kabupaten Gowa which is 52,29 %. However the contribution of subsector of forestry to the economy of Kabupaten Gowa is very small, only 0,17 %. the use of ecpnomy rent for land of rehabilitation in 2005 has been use as much as Rp. 142.384.858,- for 95,50 ha of area. This fund is come from Dana Alokasi Khusus - Dana Reboisasai(DAK-DR)40 % (special allocation fund-reforestration fund 40 %) the part is managed by the region of production. Abstract

Community teak forest in Bone Regency was +- 4,220 ha in wide, spreading in Amali, Ulaweng, Bengo, Mare, Tonra, Kahu, Salomekko, Ajangale, Dua Boccoe, Lamuru, Tellulimpoe, Lappariaja, Libureng, Palakka, Bontocani and Ponre Subdistricts. The descriptive method was used to describe and clarify felling activities of community teak forest yield. The quantitative approach was conducted by recording and analyzing the data such as potency, length, diameter, volume, working time, productivity, cost, etc. The study was aimed to felling cost m-3 with self-management was cheaper than by the piece, namely Rp.298,712,8 and Rp. 471,159.90 with difference amounting of Rp 172,447.10 m-3, but collector-traders chose contract work because considering social aspect, chance and opportunity to get others teak. Abstract

The wood species used in this research was gmelina wood from community forest, Maros Regency and jati wood from community forest, Barru Regency. For objective of the research, parts of the tree were taken a short cut (5 cm) from root, branch and top of the tree. All samples were tested their chemical component (cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and extractives) and fiber dimensions with it’s derivates fiber. The results showed that root, branch and top of the tree of gmelina wood and jati wood from community forest can be used as a raw material for pulp and papers. Abstract

Kawasan Taman Nasional Bukit Barisan Selatan (TNBBS) memiliki ekosistem lengkap mulai dari ekosistem pantai, hutan hujan dataran rendah sampai hutan hujan pegunungan serta potensi sumber daya alam hayati dan non hayati yang cukup tinggi.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui nilai indikator – indikator kesehatan hutan di Resort Biha, Ngambur, dan Pemerihan di TNBBS dan menganalisis status kesehatan hutan di Resort Biha, Ngambur, dan Pemerihan di TNBBS.  Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan menilai kesehatan hutan dengan metode Forest Health Monitoring (FHM).  Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa nilai kemerataan di Resort Biha, Ngambur dan Pemerihan tergolong tinggi dengan besaran menujukkan nilai E’>0,6.  Perhitungan simpanan karbon diperoleh bahwa rata-rata simpanan karbon di Resort Biha sebesar 314,68 ton c/ha.  Penilaian kesehatan hutan pada lokasi penelitian menunjukkan biodiversitas mempunyai nilai 0,484 (48,4%), simpanan karbon mempunyai nilai 0,177 (17,7%), kualitas tapak mempunyai nilai 0,140 (14,0%), vitalitas mempunyai nilai  0,108 (10,8%), dan produktivitas mempunyai nilai 0,093 (9,30%).Keyword: Forest Health Monitoring (FHM); keanekaragaman; kesehatan hutan

Abstract

Agricultural fibers are currently used as a substituted resource to wood-based products. One of agricultural fibers that has been developed and become a resource for panel products is coir (coconut fiber). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of veneered composite board made of coir and recycled polyethylene (RPE). The target density of board samples was 0.7 g/cm3. The board construction type is core type composite board (three layers). Veneers from Meranti (Shorea sp.) were used as face and back layers and coir was in the core layer. RPE composition was 50% based on coir particle and veneers oven dry weights. Recycled plastics were placed in three layers, 30% on the face and back layers, and 70% in the core layer. The coir sizes were under 1 cm, 1 cm, 5 cm, 10 cm, and 10 cm up (along coir size). The composite board samples were tested by JIS A 5908 – 1994. Each parameter was measured in three replications. The research results obtained are as follows : (1) Veneered composite boards made of coir and RPE fulfill the JIS A 5908 standard in term of density, thickness swelling after 2 and 24 hours of water immersions, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture and internal bond, and (2) The coir size did not significantly affect the properties of composite board. Abstract

This study was aimed to determine quality of sugar palm vinegar (Arenga pinnata) based on SNI 01-4371-1996. The result was expected to provide material information about the quality of sugar palm vinegar based on SNI 01-4371-1996 and as a reference for further research. Nira of sugar palm as sample used in this research were obtained from Kappang Village, District Cenrana, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The process of making vinegar through by fermentation of the nira which has been obtained from the field. Vinegar is produced and then tested their quality based on SNI 01-4371-1996. The results showed that the variables that meet the SNI 01-4371-1996 on vinegar fermentation are the liquid form and flavour, acetic acid content, residue of alcohol, Pb and Cu metal contamination and arsenic contamination. Variables that not meet the SNI 01-4371-1996 are NaCl, the amount of dissolved solids, test of total sugar, contaminant of metals zinc (Zn) and microbial contamination. Abstract

This study was aimed at determining the pore characteristic (type, dimension and frequency of vessel) of teak from different clones (Cloned Cepu and Madiun). For the purpose of the study, teak wood samples with the age of 7 years were taken from research site number 22a of RPH Banaran, BKPH Playen, Gunung Kidul, in Watu Sipat Forests, Biotechnology and Forest Tree Improvement Research Facilities in Yogyakarta at different planting distances (3 m x 3 m and 2 m x 6 m). Results show that the type of pores is diffuse-porous until the 3th growth ring and after that; it becomes semi ring-porous. The variation of diameter, length and frequency of vessels from cloned Cepu and spacing 3 m x 3 m are comparatively uniform compared to that of cloned Madiun and spacing 2 m x 6 m. Abstract

Wood is a special material which can swell and shrink with the change of environmental humidity. The aim of this research was to enhance the dimensional stability of wood. Clear specimens of jackfruit wood (Artocarpus heterophyllus) ) measuring 15 cm (L) x 2 cm (R) x 2 cm (T) and mangium wood (Acacia mangium Wild.) measuring 5 cm (L) x 5 cm (R) x 5 cm (T) were prepared for treatment. The samples were firstly soaked in a liquid paraffin with 0% concentration (100% kerosene soluble), 33.3 %, 66,6% and 100%. All samples were then vacuumed for 1 hour and soaked in water for 24 hours. Results indicated that the best response for dimensional stability was performed by mangium with 33% paraffin and jackfruit wood with 66% paraffine. In addition, moisture content of all treated samples decreased after treatment. This research also showed that the treatment had no significant effect to MOE, MOR and hardness of the wood. Abstract

Anthocephallus cadamba was a native species and one of some commercial trees which had a good prospect to develop on the low production forest. This research was aimed to analyze growth and yield of A. cadamba plantation, including the living trees percentage, productivity, economic cutting cycle, and its profit. Parameter of data analysis used trees diameter, high and volume, mean annual increment, polynomial equation modelling and financial analysis i.e. net present value (NPV), and benefit cost ratio (BCR). The research had been conducted at research plots of A. cadamba in sub District of Mandau Talawang, Central Kalimantan Province since 1998 to 2010. Soil type in the site was ultisol former shifting cultivation and scrubs. The result of this research showed that living trees precentage at 12 years old was 57.7 %. Mean annual increment and its density were 19.05 m3 ha-1 and 641 tree ha-1 respectively. Equation modelling of jabon plantation was y = 4.7814 + 3.6028x - 0.185x2 (R2= 63.34 %). In the bank rate of 9 % year-1, the economic cutting cycle of this plantation was 13 years with net present value was IDR 72,79 million per ha. If the bank rate of 6 % and 12 % per year, then net present value at the 13 years were IDR 108.52 and IDR 48.56 million ha-1 respectively. The A. cadamba was suitable to timber estate and to increase the productivity of former shifting cultivation, scrub, and low potential forest areas. Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat kesesuaian kayu sentang sebagai bahan baku berdasarkan tinjauan sifat dasarnya dalam hal ini anatomi, fisis, dan kimia. Metode yang digunakan dalam penentuan struktur kayu yaitu teknik maserasi dan mikrotom, sifat fisik berdasarkan standar BS-373 (1957), dan sifat kimia menggunakan standar TAPPI. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) struktur kayu: kayu sentang cocok dipergunakan sebagai bahan baku OSB karena memiliki dinding sel tipis sampai sedang, pori relatif banyak. Ini merupakan dua faktor yang berperan penting dalam hal perekatan dan proses pengempaan; (2) sifat fisik: kayu sentang memiliki BJ sedang, nilai T/R untuk kering udara dan oven masing-masing 1,25 and 1,17; serta (3) sifat kimia: kayu sentang memiliki kandungan ekstraktif sedang, kandungan selulosa tinggi dan lignin dan kadar abu sedang.
