Abstract

This study aims to describe the communication skills of prospective teachers in learning mathematics to build students' reasoning abilities. The research was carried out in class X SMAN 1 Lawang with 38 students and SMAN 1 Singosari with 40 students. The subjects of this research were KPL students from the Mathematics Education Study Program, State University of Malang, consisting of 2 students. Mathematics learning for prospective teachers is Graph material and Quadratic Functions. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The instruments in this study were interviews, field notes, and video recordings. The results of this study are that prospective teachers are able to communicate theorems and procedures well, according to the concept map material on Graphs and Quadratic Functions. Functions can be demonstrated through writing and geometric shapes by using mathematical interpretations from real life, performing calculations and predictions, explaining reasons why an answer can be accepted as a truth, finding an answer so as to be able to reveal connections and provide insight into the underlying mathematical structure. The exposition activities of prospective teachers through generalization activities of proof - proving the problems given help students get a truth, so that in this case the prospective teachers have succeeded in building students' reasoning. Errors that occur from a small number of students when making conclusions are expected to be minimized through a deeper study of mathematical communication to build student reasoning.Keywords: Teacher candidates, Mathematical Communication, Student Reasoning

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the metaphorical thinking approach on students' mathematical critical thinking abilities and determine the percentage of students' mathematical critical thinking abilities who use the metaphorical thinking approach. The method used is the experimental method, namely Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The population in the study was all students in class VIII of SMP Negeri 1 Tasikmalaya. The samples in the research were students in class VIII G as the experimental class and class VIII A as the control class. The sample technique uses random assignment. The instrument used is a description test of mathematical critical thinking abilities. Data analysis techniques include descriptive statistics and inferential statistics by analyzing and measuring students' mathematical critical thinking skills using IBM SPSS Statistics 24. Normality test using Shapiro Wilk, homogeneity test using Levene's, mean difference test (right side) using Independent Sample T- Test, and the Mann Whitney test. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the metaphorical thinking approach on students' mathematical critical thinking abilities. The mathematical critical thinking ability of students with a metaphorical thinking approach is in the high category 40.625%, medium 40.625%, low 18.75%, and the overall average score is 58% in the medium category.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the types of errors and the causal factors that were made by students in solving question on matrix based on the Newman procedure. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative. The data was collected by using tests and interviews. The subject of this research is students of class XI IPA 1 at SMA N 1 Tondano. Among these students,  6 (six) students were taken as interview subjects. The result of this study is the percentage of students’ errors in solving matrix problem which consist: reading error 0.67%, comprehension error 1.33%, transformation error 24%, process skill error and encoding error 37.33%. The factors that cause errors made by students are students: (1) not careful in reading questions and in carrying out matrix addition operation; (2) rushing in solving problems; (3) not understanding the terms of matrix multiplication; (4) not knowing the formula that must be used to solve problem; (5) not making steps to solve problem in detail; (6) incomplete notes; and (7) not learning

Abstract

This article discusses the Analysis of Mathematical Problem-Solving Ability in SPLTV material. So get an overview to understand the problem, develop a problem-solving plan, solve the problem, and conduct a review in the given problem-solving process. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive method. The subjects taken were 6 students of class XII SMK in a school in Karawang Regency. The instrument consists of solving the problem of function material which was adopted from the teaching materials of the 2017 revised edition of the curriculum compulsory textbook. The data analysis technique used consists of 3 stages, namely analyzing the results of students' answers, presenting the results of data analysis, and making conclusions from the results of data analysis of students' mathematical problem solving abilities. The result of this article is to provide an overview of solving SPLTV material which is carried out related to everyday problems related to mathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the use of the Scramble type cooperative learning model on theability to understand mathematical concepts of seventh grade students at MTs Al Ichsan Nanggulan. This research wasconducted at MTs Al Ichsan Nanggulan in the 2021/2022 academic year. This type of research is a quasi-experimentalresearch with Posttest Only Control Design. In this study the sampling technique used is simple random sampling. Fromthe four population classes, two sample classes were taken, namely class VII C as the experimental class and class VIID as the control class. The instruments used in this study were observation sheets and tests. Technical analysis of thedata in this study is to use the normality test and homogeneity test as well as hypothesis testing. The results of the posttestnormality test of the experimental class obtained the value of sig. 0.152 0.05 and in the control class the sig value wasobtained. 0.200 0.05, so the post-test scores of both classes were normally distributed. The homogeneity test of theposttest value obtained the value of sig. 0.153 0.05, so the variance of the two classes is homogeneous. Furthermore,because the prerequisite test is met, a t-test is carried out. The results of the first hypothesis test were obtained, namely16.26 2.04523, which means that the Scramble-type cooperative learning model is effective on the ability to understandmathematical concepts of seventh grade students at Mts Al Ichsan Nanggulan. The results of the second hypothesis testwere obtained, namely 4.59 2.04523, which means that the conventional learning model is effective on the ability tounderstand mathematical concepts of seventh grade students at Mts Al Ichsan Nanggulan. The results of the thirdhypothesis test are obtained, namely 7.901 2.001, which means that the Scramble type cooperative learning model ismore effective than the conventional learning model on the ability to understand mathematical concepts of seventh gradestudents at Mts Al Ichsan Nanggulan..Keywords: math learning;Scramble learning model;understanding of mathematical concepts

Abstract

Representation has various forms in conveying ideas, such as symbols, verbal, graphs, and  tables.  In  changing  from  the  source  representation  to  the  requested  target representation,  students  must  have  representational  translation  skills,  especially  in algebra. Representational translation ability is important for students because it can prevent misunderstanding in solving math problems and help understanding algebra material.  This  study  aims  to  describe  the  representational  translation  ability  of students with different levels of mathematical ability in the algebra material of class VIII MTs PSM Tanen. The results showed that students with high mathematical ability were able to fulfill most of the indicators for representational translation from verbal form to symbolic form (V-S), but not fully on the translation from symbolic to verbal form (S-V). Students with moderate mathematical ability can fulfill most of the V-S indicators,  but  have  limitations  in  S-V.  Meanwhile,  students  with  low  mathematics ability were not able to fulfill the V-S or S-V indicators. In conclusion, representational translation ability varies between students with high, medium, and low mathematics ability.  Students  need  to  be  helped  to  improve  this  translational  ability  in  order  to understand and solve math problems better, especially in algebra material.

Abstract

ABSTRACTMathematics lessons are subjects that relate to many concepts and the ability to understand mathematical concepts is the key in learning mathematics so that the ability to understand mathematical concepts is very important for students. However, students' ability to understand mathematical concepts is still low. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the flipped classroom learning model assisted by learning videos on the ability to understand mathematical concepts better than the flipped classroom learning model without the help of learning videos. This research method is quasi-experimental. The research design used was a pretest-posttest control group. The subjects in this study were selected randomly by using a purposive sampling technique where class VIII-A as the control class used the flipped classroom learning model without the help of learning videos and class VIII-C as the experimental class by getting the treatment of the flipped classroom learning model assisted by video learning with The instrument used to test the ability to understand mathematical concepts in the form of description questions. Data analysis was performed using a t-test or independent sample t-test with the help of SPSS 17.0 for Windows. The results showed that the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students with the flipped classroom learning model assisted by learning videos was better than the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students using the flipped classroom learning model without the help of learning videos or it could be concluded that there was an effect of the flipeed classroom learning model assisted by learning videos. Keywords: Ability to understand mathematical concepts, and flipeed classroom                            learning model assisted by learning videos.

Abstract

Representasi visual matematis merupakan sebuah kemampuan yang perlu dikembangkan pada siswa untuk menyelesaikan sebuah persoalan  matematika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa dalam mengerjakan soal-soal matematika dengan menggunakan konteks Taman Segitiga Emas Kayuagung. Metode yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah 5 orang siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 4 Kayuagung tahun pelajaran 2022-2023.  Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa soal matematika dengan konteks Taman Segitiga Emas Kayuagung, dan instrumen pendukung berupa wawancara. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Dari hasil analisis dan pembahasan terhadap jawaban para siswa dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan representasi visual matematis siswa pada konteks Taman Segitiga Emas Kayuagung sebagian besar tergolong sangat baik.Kata Kunci:  representasi visual, konteks, taman segitiga emas kayuagung.

Abstract

This study aims to produce a Gauss Jordan application with 3x3 dimensions based on Android which has been tested for validity on linear equation system material for class TI21A4 students, Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Duta Bangsa Surakarta. This research is a Research and Development (RnD) research that uses the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The subjects in this study were one mathematics lecturer and one computer lecturer. Data was collected by means of material validation sheets and application displays and interviews. The data analysis used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. Based on the results of the validation of the Gauss Jordan 3x3 application in terms of the accuracy of the workmanship, an average score of 4.31 was obtained in the valid category. Assessment of the application display aspect obtained an average score of 4.33 with a valid category. Overall, based on these two aspects, the Android-based Gauss Jordan 3x3 application is said to be valid. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the Android-based Gauss Jordan 3x3 application on the system of linear equations is said to be feasible to use in the learning process in Linear Algebra courses.Keywords:             applicaton; gauss Jordan; development; valid; SPL
