Abstract

This study aimed to see the increase of students’ mathematical connection by using model Means-Ends Analysis (MEA), and knowing how students’ learning motivation. The method used was an experimental pretest-posttest design. The study population were all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 3 Manonjaya as much as 121 students. Samples were taken by random technique become experiment class (30 students) and control class (30 students). The research instrument used test questions and questionnaires of mathematical connection. Data analysis concluded there was an increase in the students’ mathematical connection by using model Means-Ends Analysis (MEA), and students’ learning motivation of learning with Means-Ends Analysis (MEA) model was in high level.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to know the influence of using model Course Review Horey to the result of student’s mathematics learning. This research is Quasi Experimental Design type. This sampling technique used purposive sampling with 76 students at SMP Negeri 1 Sepatan in 8 class in the even semester of the school year 2017/2018. The research instrument is result of student’s mathematics learning test that shaped essay as many as 7 questions item, that have been validity test, reliability test, level of difficulty test and distinguishinhing power test. The requirements analysis test that normality test using Lilliefors test and homogeneity test using Fisher test. Based on requirements analysis test found both classes are normally distributed and homogenenous variants. Hypothesis test using t-test and  is rejected. Thus, there is an influence in model Course Review Horey to the result of student’s mathematics learning.Keyword  : Course Review Horey model’s;  result of student’s, mathematics.

Abstract

Students’ poor mathematic problem-solving ability is an important problem in mathematic. In enriching students’ ability, it is needed an effort for students to solve the items regularly. The alternative method that can be used is drill method. This research aimed to know the improvement of students’ ability in mathematic problem solving by using the drill and the students’ attitude. This research was the quasy experiment with randomized pre-test post-test control group design. The experiment class used drill method. The research subjects were the students of Manba Ul’ulum, Tangerang city, Banten Regency. The result of this research showed that the improvement of students’ mathematic problem-solving by using drill method was better than the conventional learning. The main gain for the experimental and control class included to the high category. The positive attitude was also shown in the learning process by using drill method.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze students’ difficulties types and its factors in Mathematics History subject. This research is descriptive qualitative. Research subject of this research consists of six students in second semester of Mathematics department at the FKIP Unsika. Technique of data collection are interview and documentation. Moreover, technique of data analysis through three activities: data reduction, data display, and data conclusion. The result of this research shows students experienced difficulties, firstly comprehending concept difficulties that covers: (1) difficulty on formulating technique or a manner of numeral statement; (2) difficulty differentiate characteristic or symbol form and numerical in Babylonia era, Egypt, Greek and China; (3) difficulty in calculating phase; (4) difficulty applying Pythagoras theorem. Secondly difficulty to communicate that covers: (1) difficulty illustrating and composing of written and numbered form (2) difficulty explaining history of finding number and numerical in order form. Factors cause difficulties, first intrinsic factor: lack of learning activity, difficulty in memorizing numerical symbol and number, difficulty retell story of history development which has been learned. Second extrinsic factor, tend to more active in outside classroom activity. Key words: learning difficulty, difficulties factor, history of Mathematics

Abstract

The generalizing skill of vocational students was still quite low of a grade. These results were demonstrated by several studies that have been done before. Many students felt difficult in finding patterns or relationships of mathematical situations, especially in its analysis to make generalizations. According to the goals of the vocational curriculum of mathematics teaching, generalization was one of the capabilities that must be developed. Therefore, self-confident as affective aspects becomes the main factor which supports the development of generalization ability. This article focused on the reviewing an approach in mathematics learning process that can be used as an alternative to improve the ability of generalization and self-confident of vocational students.

Abstract

The era of globalization and competition requires the improvement and development of quality human resources. Competition era of globalization has been met by a wide range of advanced technologies. It is necessary to find an alternative learning which can improve learning activities and provide opportunities for learners to be more creative. One method of learning that can be done is the adoption of the Open-Ended Approach with Microsoft Excel program. The focus of this study was to determine the improvement in mathematical creative thinking abilities of learners towards learning mathematics. The population in this study were all students of class XI SMU 1 Tasikmalaya, and the samples were taken randomly from the entire classes. Two classes were selected as experimental class and control class. The instrument used consisted of testing the ability of creative thinking and mathematical model attitude Likert scale. The instrument used has been valid and reliable. The data has been analysed using the normalized gain test and statistical test such as t-test ‘and the Mann-Whitney test. The result has been shown the improvement of the ability to think creatively of mathematical learners by the Open-Ended approach Microsoft Excel program is better than learners by the Open-Ended approach without the assistance of Microsoft Excel Program. The attitude of learners towards learning with the Open-Ended approach with Microsoft Excel program is positive.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of instructional investigation-assisted Cabri 3D software to students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities, knowing the difference of mathematical problem solving ability among students who received instructional investigation with the help of Cabri 3D software with those who obtained conventional learning seen from high, low and describe the independence of student learning on the application of investigative learning assisted Cabri 3D software. The method used in this research is the descriptive quantitative method. The population in this study is all students of Mathematics Education Department of Siliwangi University class of 2015/2016, while the sample in this research is the students who take the subjects of Kapita Selekta Matematika SMA II as much as two classes. The first class consisted of 30 students, used as an experimental group using instructional investigation assisted by Cabri 3D software and second class consist of 31 students, used as the control group with learning using conventional learning. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that (1) There is a positive influence of the application of investigative learning with the help of Cabri 3D software to the students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities. The outcome target of this research is scientific publication published in the national journal having ISSN and proceeding at the national seminar on mathematics education.

Abstract

This research was the development of mathematical learning model to improve students’ mathematical thinking and characters. The model developed was Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) – Contextual in the course of mathematics capita selecta of high school. The research used research and development method through ‘thought experiments’ and ‘instruction experiments’ with a cyclical process. Subjects in this study were students of mathematics teacher education of STKIP Garut, consisted of three classes. The instruments developed were documentation study, interview guides for students, mathematical thinking ability tests and questionnaires to measure the student’s character. Based on the results achieved, it can be concluded: (1) There were a potential and opportunities that exist in the field to develop the components of CAI-Contextual, (2) CAI-Contextual potentials to improve students’ mathematical thinking and characters, and (3) Students’ mathematical thinking and characters increases on the average and the students have a good character.

Abstract

Penelitian terdahulu yang telah dilakukan oleh Jumarniati menunjukkan bahwasannya motivasi belajar memiliki pengaruh terhadap hasil belajar siswa dan juga penelitian yang telah dilakukan oleh ghulam hamdu dan Lisa Agustina dengan kesimpulan yang sama pula. Dengan berdasarkan beberapa penelitian tersebut disini peneliti beranggapan bahwasannya motivasi juga akan berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan abstraksi siswa. Maka dilakukanlah penelitian dengan judul “Pengaruh Motivasi Belajar Terhadap Kemampuan Abstraksi Siswa di Kelas VII Smpn 01 Kalidawir Tulungagung Tahun Ajaran 2017/2018”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh motivasi belajar terhadap kemampuan abstraksi siswa di kelas VII SMPN 01 Kalidawir dan seberapa besar pengaruhnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode angket dan tes. Angket digunakan untuk mengukur motivasi belajar siswa dan metode tes digunakan untuk memperoleh data kemampuan abstraksi siswa. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah uji regresi linier sederhana. Adapun hasil penelitian berdasarkan pengolahan dan analisis data dengan dibantu program SPSS 16.0 diperoleh koefisien korelasi (r) sebesar 3,1% artinya motivasi belajar dengan kemampuan abstraksi siswa tidak memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan, dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak ada pengaruh motivasi  belajar  terhadap  kemampuan abstraksi siswa.

Abstract

This research was conducted to provide alternative learning models that can improve the ability of students’ reasoning. By giving the opportunity to students to be more active in the learning process, Problem Based Learning model was one of the alternatives to improve students’ reasoning in calculus III courses. This research was quasi-experimental research at the Siliwangi University Tasikmalaya. The instruments used in this study consists of mathematical reasoning tests in Calculus III. Research samples were taken randomly i.e. one experimental class and one control class. Data processed by using the normalized gain test, t-test percentage presentation after all the requirements of the test were met. The results of the analysis showed a difference of the average of students’ mathematical critical thinking between experiment and control class. Further test showed that students’ average of experiment class was better than the control class.
