Abstract

Open defecation is still carried out in several locations in Jakarta, especially in slum settlements as a result of uncontrolled migration flows that are not accompanied by the readiness and availability of adequate housing. Basically, this behavior is a way of fulfilling the biological need to defecate. Individual ways to fulfill it are influenced by external factors and individual internal factors, which can shape behavior in a positive or negative direction. These ways are strongly influenced by the determinants of behavior. This study aims to raise facts on the ground which show that there are differences in reactions to interventions carried out in an effort to change open defecation behavior that occurs in marginalized Jakarta communities towards clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS). In addition, to find the driving factors that influence the success of behavior change. This research took place in two residential locations, namely RT.15/RW.07 and RT.01/RW.03, North Tanjung Duren Village, Grogol Petamburan District, West Jakarta Administrative City. The research method is descriptive qualitative. Research factors are reinforcing, predisposing, and enabling factors. The results of this study identified differences in the factors driving behavior change in the two research locations. At the location of RT.01/RW.03, there are external stimuli and agents of change (reinforcing factor), cohesiveness in society (predisposing factor), empowerment/independence (enabling factor). In the location of RT.15/RW.07, there are external stimuli and agents of change, while the other two factors are not owned and instead become quite basic differentiators when compared to the first location and there are obstacles in the form of a culture of poverty among the residents of RT.15/RW. 07, which relies more on government assistance, has also colored the contrast in people's awareness of clean and healthy living behavior.

Abstract

Tradition is a habit of people in an area that has been passed down from generation to generation by our ancestors for a long time. One form of tradition that develops in the community is an oral tradition, for example, the tradition of customary prohibitions in Ponorogo Regency. This study aims to find out about the existence of the customary prohibition tradition found in the Golan and Mirah villages, given that these villages have customary prohibitions not to unite in any case, including marriage and other activities involving the Golan and Mirah village groups. In order to approach the problem, an anthropolinguistic approach is used as references. The data were collected through interviews and literature studies which were analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results of this study indicate that there are 5 swearing utterances by Ki Honggolono: 1) Golan and Mirah residents are prohibited from marrying; 2) goods originating from the Golan village are prohibited from being brought to Mirah, and vice versa; 3) goods originating from the two villages are prohibited from being collected or combined; 4) the people of Mirah are prohibited from planting and are not allowed to make products related to soybeans; and 5) Golan residents are prohibited from using straw as roofing material for houses. It is disastrous if anyone violates these rules. This tradition can be interpreted as a form of identity for a community group. Until now, the tradition of customary prohibition is still maintained and maintained in the midst of globalization.

Abstract

In fishing communities, there are social classes that have diametrically different interests, namely local capital owners (capitalists), boat owners (punggawa) and ship crew. This reality creates resistance between classes which is very difficult to solve. The purpose of this writing consists of two: firstly, to describe the form of capitalist hegemony over Bajo fishermen and secondly, to describe the resistance of Bajo fishermen to capitalist hegemony. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. This research was conducted in the Aru Islands district. The type of data consists of primary data and secondary data. Primary data collection was carried out through observation and in-depth interviews. Meanwhile, secondary data was obtained by searching literature sourcing from printed books, ebooks, online and printed journals. Management and presentation of data is done by means of data reduction, data analysis, and data presentation in a holistic-integrative manner and drawing conclusions. The results show that the fishermen group consisting of boat voters (punggawa) resisted the local capital owners (capitalists) in the form of buying other people's shipping and fishing needs and selling their catch secretly. This phenomenon is largely determined by the knowledge, feelings and suffering of fishermen as a predisposing factor to respond to and to evaluate the reality of capitalist hegemony because they have suffered too long and lived within a dehumanization frame.

Abstract

This article reviews studies on women and Christianity that are currently developing in the field of anthropology, and seeks to curate the literature in the discipline to discuss how Christianity conditions sociocultural processes in gender relations. To discuss this, we critically examine the results of ethnographic research on Christianity conducted in the Oceania countries of Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands in the last two decades. Gender is used as a lens to examine these studies. Important findings from this research include studies on cultural transformation, gender roles, and processes of change. Christianity brings changes in social dynamics to a community that differs from before. By providing a space to express masculine and feminine values, Christianity generates tension between gendered values in society such as egalitarianism and hierarchy. Studies on Christianity and gender can help to observe and understand cultural transformation phenomena taking place within a community.
