Abstract

The rites associated with the death ceremony are determined by the thinking behind it, which appears in the actions lived by a particular community. Actions taken can be different in the same event. This research explores the appreciation of the meaning of the death event in Tayeman hamlet, Kopeng Village, Semarang Regency, specifically regarding the act of not providing a funeral box and not wanting to receive funeral money which is a form of sympathy, support and solidarity from the mourners to the grieving family. Even the bereaved family actually entertained the mourners like a party. This interesting phenomenon is studied from the perspective of consensus and reciprocity theory. The method used is descriptive method with a qualitative approach through observation, direct involvement, interviews, and literature study. The results obtained are that the actions of the Tayeman hamlet community emerge through a shared appreciation that takes a long time, is formalized, and is agreed upon, and they still recognize that every human being must give and receive one another in the life they live. Because of that they still respect different customs when they are outside the area, and do not force their local wisdom to be carried out by other communities.

Abstract

The concept of harmony in Javanese society contains ethical principles that must be upheld by the Javanese people. All measures are taken to maintain harmony. Rodatin is a folk performing art that reflects this concept. Rodat dance serves as a medium of Islamic symbols since the reign of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I. Rodatin is a war technique of the Diponegaro War which is camouflaged in the form of smooth movements. Knowledge of this art is limited to oral speech. This paper writes about the collective memory of Rodatin in the Margo Rukun art group in Mulungan Hamlet, Nogosren Village, Getasan District, Semarang Regency, Central Java. From this activity, it can be seen that Rodatin art has a blend of Javanese, Hindu, Islamic and Western values. Rodatin art is performed in the methukan (encounter) tradition in the Javanese-Islamic calendar, namely Rejeb, Ruwah, Pasa, Suro, and Sapar. Methukan is a symbol of hablum minnanas and hablum minnallah (human relations with fellow creatures and humans with the creator). Rodatin art as a means of da'wah and practice to knit the way of harmony in accordance with Javanese and Islamic values.

Abstract

This essay is a form of 'diversity' of views in contemporary feminist ethnography which views that women are not a single category (that all women suffer from the same oppression). This research is intended to frame the community's cultural values ??related to the position of women and see their relationship with the socio-cultural structure of the Kaili people. The question being asked is what is the position or position of women in the socio-cultural structure of the Kaili people? The results of the study show that women in the life of the Kaili people are placed in a central position. This is reflected in the cognitive structure of the Kaili people through the Tomanuru myth. Tomanuru is described as a wise, fair, honest and cooperative woman. who was deliberately sent down to earth to accompany Tomalanggai, who later became known as the ancestors of the Kaili people. Meanwhile, at a practical level, the roles played by women within the scope of the nuclear family (koyompuse) are embodied in the role of bulonggo who has the power to control the family's economic resources. Within the scope of the extended family (Santina), the role of women is reflected in the concept of tina, including tina numbara-mbara, tina nurombe. Meanwhile in the wider community (savalantambako), tina nubalia and tina ngata emphasize the presence of women as leaders and even as main figures in the embodiment of a ritual and the benefit of the village. The central roles of these women are a form of recognition of women's abilities and equality.
