Abstract

Objective: This case report aims to describe the treatment of open apex on maxillary incisors by performing an apical plug with MTA to induce the formation of a calcified barrier.Method: A 7-year-old female was referred with a fracture on upper right front tooth. Intraoral examination showed fracture on maxillary right central incisor with swollen gums in labial region. Periapical radiograph revealed a wide root canal with open apex and radiolucency. The diagnosis was pulpal necrosis with acute apical abscess. Results: Traumatized immature permanent teeth can cause pulpal necrosis, which can progress to an acute apical abscess. This condition will stop root development and open apex. Conclusion: Treatment of immature

Abstract

Objective: The purpose article is to identify stress predisposing factors in patients with minor RAS.Methods: A 22-year-old woman came to Dental Hospital Faculty of Dentistry UI with complaints of canker sores pain in lower front gums for 4 days ago. Canker sores occur repeatedly every month, especially when there are lots of college assignments. Intraoral examination revealed a single ulcer, clear borders, oval-shape, a pink shallow base surrounded by erythema, size 3x2 mm in attached gingival, region 41-42, with tenderness. Screening for psychological conditions with DASS-21 questionnaire, obtained scores of severe anxiety level and stress. The patient was diagnosed minor RAS with stress predisposing factors. Results: Based on the subjective and objective examinations, the patient was diagnosed with cheilitis and minor RAS with possible predisposing factors to stress and anxiety. Conclusion: Stress can be a predisposing factor for RAS, so managing stress in patient is important for controlling recurrence.

Abstract

AbstractObjective: This case report aims to describe a case of cerebral abscess due to a Spingomonas paucimobilis infection preceded by intracerebral hemorrhage at the same location. Methods: Approach and management of a 48-year-old man with worsening consciousness and fever with a history of intracerebral hemorrhage that occurred eight weeks agoResults:A previous 8-week head CT scan showed a well-defined, oval-shaped, hyperdense lesion in the right frontotemporoparietal region, along with perifocal edema, left lateral ventricular compression, and midline shift to the left of 1.3 cm, with an impression of right temporoparietal lobe intracerebral hemorrhage. A head CT scan at the time of initial admission showed a well-defined, round hypodense lesion with ring enhancement, perifocal edema, left lateral ventricular compression, and a midline shift to the left of 1.4 cm at the same site with previous intracerebral hemorrhage, with the impression of a cerebral abscess. Spingomonas paucimobilis was discovered in the brain matter culture. The diagnosis of cerebral abscess can be established. Conclusion: Cerebral abscess may be preceded by a previous intracerebral hemorrhage. A cerebral abscess can be caused by a Spingomonas paucimobilis infection, especially in immunodeficiency conditions. With additional monitoring, switching from intravenous to oral antibiotic therapy can be considered if there is a clinical and radiographic improvement.

Abstract

Background: We report a case of intoxication caused by Diefenbachia plant. A 7-year-old boy came to the pediatric dentistry department with complaints of pain in the oral cavity, especially in the tongue and buccal mucosa, tongue swelling, itching, burning, difficulty swallowing, weak condition, vomiting and abdominal pain after it was known that a few hours earlier while playing with his peers he was asked to eat ornamental plants around the house. While in the emergency room, treatment was given with lactated Ringer's infusion, 5 mg dexamethasone injection intra venously, 7 mg diphenhydramine injection intra venously and then decided to be hospitalised. Objective: To report a case of Dieffenbachia toxicity in the oral cavity especially in children. Conclusion: The paediatric patient whose oral cavity was exposed to Diefenbachia recovered with supportive care on day 5. Obtaining history from the patient regarding the plant involved is very important. Paediatric dentists must still be aware of other possibilities that can risk damaging the soft tissues of the oral cavity and can even cause death if not treated properly and quickly even though the patient can recover very well

Abstract

Objective: This case report aimed to explain the specific radiological features and interpretation of the finding of a mixed radiolucent-radiopaque lesion in the mandible, which was subsequently suspected to be an ossifying fibroma and was confirmed histopathologically according to the results of the radiological interpretation. Methods: A 25-year-old man was referred to the oral maxillofacial radiology unit of Hasanuddin University Dental Hospital with a chief complaint of facial asymmetry caused by enlargement in the left mandibular region without pain. Extra oral examination showed an asymmetrical face caused by enlargement in the left mandibular with no crepitus or pain on palpation. Intra-oral examination revealed swelling on the lower left buccal vestibule of the first premolar to the second molar with mobility in the lower left second molar. Results: The patient underwent a panoramic radiography examination, with the results of radiological interpretation showing the presence of well-defined mixed radiolucent-radiopaque lesions in the left mandibular from mesial lower left canine extended to the distal of the third molar. The effect of the lesion also shows the mandibular bone expansion involving the inferior cortex of the mandible. Conclusion: Ossifying fibroma is more common in the mandible, frequently has a mixed radiographic appearance, and tends to grow into large size, resulting in facial disfigurement. Correlation between clinical, imaging, and histopathological features is essential for establishing a proper diagnosis.

Abstract

A variety of techniques and materials have been used to improve the structural base of osseous tissue for supporting dental implants. However, there are not many articles describing techniques to address bone loss around an implant that had been integrated for a period of time but then lost the bony support around one or more walls forming a dehiscence defect. The following clinical case report demonstrates the use of a home-use intraoral photobiomodulation device (PBM Implant) in combination with a synthetic matrix bone graft to repair a dehiscence defect. Another novelty in this case, is the type of dental implant employed, called an intraosseous implant screw that stabilizes a tooth, which was a technique commonly employed over 30 years ago.

Abstract

Objective: This study reviews surgical and non-surgical options for facial scar revision and presents two case reports with efficacious scar revision surgery. Methods: Surgical exposure and primary closure was performed under local anesthesia to revise the old scar. Results: Patients were kept on periodic follow up for 6 months after the procedure. The patients had a very good cosmetic result with this technique, as the scar was much less evident after a follow-up of 6 months. Conclusion: Facial scar revision is often considered as a cosmetic treatment aimed at creating a narrower and flatter scar that is less noticeable. Therefore, it is critical that clinicians have a thorough knowledge of facial anatomical structures, tissue repair, and the various basic and applied approaches to surgical scar revision, which include using an aseptic technique, careful tissue manipulation, sharp anatomic sectioning of the tissue, cauterization of dead spaces and careful hemostasis.

Abstract

Necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (NUG) is a classic form of necrotizingperiodontal diseases. It has a rapid and aggressive onset with a multifactorialcomplex etiologysuch as stress, nutritional deficiencies, and immune system dysfunctions. Clinically, NUG is characterized by inflamedinterdental papillae, gingival necrosis, gingival pain, bleeding, and halitosis. The treatment of NUG included an initial phase that should be providedimmediately to stop disease progression and to controlpatient’s feeling of discomfort and pain. The second phase of the treatment of the preexisting condition, then, the surgical correction of the diseasesequelae .After active therapy was completed; a periodontal maintenance regimen was established. The aim of this case report is to describe the diagnosis approach and treatment of NUG in a male patient with no systemic disease and probable mechanism of pathogenesis of predisposing factors involved

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this case report is to describe the management of open apex and tooth discoloration in the maxillary central incisor. Methods: The patient had an accident 13 years ago. Intraoral examination showed tooth discoloration #8 and composite restoration on the mesial aspect of the tooth. The periapical radiograph showed an open apex and diffuse periapical radiolucency. The diagnosis was pulp necrosis with chronic periapical abscess. The patient was managed by root canal treatment with an apical plug using MTA and then internal bleaching using H2O2 is performed to treat tooth discoloration. Results: Trauma during root formation on anterior teeth can result in pulp necrosis with an open apex and tooth discoloration. This becomes a challenge because the condition of open apex complicates root canal obturation and presents aesthetic problems. Conclusion: The final treatment was composite restoration.
