Abstract

Objective: The aim of this treatment is to preserve the tooth and surrounding bone for several years. Methods: A nine-year-old girl presented with avulsion of both maxillary central incisor teeth due to falling off a bicycle after 1 day of previous incident. Treatment guidelines for immature avulse permanent teeth with prolonged extra-oral time were performed for the teeth and extra-oral endodontic treatment was completed by the pediatric dentist. After being repositioned and fixed by the oral surgeon using an arch bar, the tooth was stabilized for 8 weeks, 20 weeks and prophylactic antibiotics were prescribed. Clinical and radiographic controls were done after 2 months, 4 months and 6 months. During this period there was still no improvement in the attachment of the avulsed tooth to the surrounding bone, and it is currently under treatment control with a composite wire splint. Results: The prevalence of avulsion cases in children increases between the ages of 7 to 9 years due to incomplete root development and minimal resistance of the alveolar bone/periodontal ligament (PDL) to extrusion forces during the period of tooth eruption. Conclusion: Dental avulsion replantation treatment should be performed immediately but delayed replantation cases can still be performed.

Abstract

Objective: This case report aims to describe the endodontic reintervention in a mandibular second molar with C-shape canals and IRR.Methods: The tooth had root canal treatment ± 7 months ago, and there was a history of swelling. Clinical and radiographic examination of tooth #46 showed C-shape root canals configuration, mesial unobturated canal, obturated but not hermetically distal root canal, closed IRR on the mesial and distal roots, and diffuse radiolucency in the periapical. Results: The diagnosis was previously treated with a chronic apical abscess. Endodontic reintervention was performed to eliminate bacteria from the root canal systems, obtain hermetic results in irregular root canals due to closed IRR accompanied by a C-shape configuration, and allow proper healing. The tooth was restored with a zirconia overlay. Conclusion: Endodontic reintervention in mandibular second molar with C-shaped canals and internal root resorption can be successful depending on the choice of treatment plan and procedure.

Abstract

Objective: Measuring levels of cobalamin (vitamin B12) in blood is frequently utilized to diagnosis deficiency in patients with recurrent oral ulceration. This article aims to report an interesting rare case of recurrent oral ulceration with a high level of cobalamin. Methods: a 44-year-old female came to dental clinic with chief complaint of recalcitrant oral ulceration since half a year ago. Patients basically had history of periodic oral ulcer for quite long time with short occurrence and only one or two ulcer in one period. However, the ulcer become alarming after she was hospitalized due to extreme fatigue. Patients subsequently instructed for routine blood along with cobalamin and IgE total examination. Results: The test came back with highly decreased level of red blood index indicates that the patients on severe anemic condition. Unexpectedly, the levels of cobalamin in blood increased by 70% from the referral score. Patients urgently refer for hospitalization to recover her Hb level. After blood transfusion, patients discharged from the hospital but under hematologic observation for the exact etiology of her anemia, including the high cobalamin level. After two months observation, patients Hb gained normal level, however the vitamin B12 level remain. Patients reported decreased in number of ulcers. Conclusion:  It is worthy to always check on cobalamin level for patients with recurrent oral ulcers since lower level can directly causing it or the high level can lead to some life-threatening diseases which can also trigger the recalcitrant oral ulcers.

Abstract

Although a benign condition of no medical concern, patients in Pakistan commonly complain of “black gums” especially those with high lip line and esthetic concerns. Dentists have been correcting this condition with a wide range of treatment modalities, including diamond bur gingivectomy, scalpel gingivectomy with or without subsequent free gingival autografting, electrosurgery, cryosurgery, laser surgery. In this case series, a diode laser was used for depigmentation, which yielded good esthetic results, patient satisfaction and no pain or infection.

Abstract

Objective: These clinical findings were subsequently corroborated by anatomic pathology (PA) examination. Methods: Lymphangiomatosis, on the other hand, is a rare condition characterized by multifocal lymphatic proliferation, typically diagnosed during childhood. It affects various parenchymal organs, including the lungs, liver, spleen, bones, and skin. Lymphangiomas manifest across a wide age spectrum among patients and occur at multiple anatomical sites, presenting a diverse range of clinical and radiological manifestations.  The management of these tumors is complex and often requires involvement of multiple medical specialists, including orthopedic surgeons, radiologists, general surgeons, neurosurgeons, and oncologists. Results: The primary aim of presurgical embolization is to achieve devascularization of the tumor before surgical resection, resulting in reduced intraoperative blood loss and fewer complications. It is advisable to perform early resection following embolization, as revascularization can occur within six weeks in some cases. Conclusion: Limited research has been conducted on the embolization of musculoskeletal tumors for neoadjuvant, therapeutic, and palliative purposes. Nevertheless, there is a shortage of data regarding the results of presurgical embolization for musculoskeletal tumors.

Abstract

Objective: This helps minimize the look of discoloration by refracting light just like normal teeth. It also stops further demineralization by strengthening and hardening the enamel. Methods: A 20- year- old male patient came to the Dental Hospital of Hasanuddin University with teeth that had turned yellow since the patient routinely consumed coloured drinks every morning and evening, 3 years ago. In-office bleaching with 40% hydrogen peroxide was done to get the teeth discoloured to become brighter. Results: After application of resin infiltration, it was observed that the resin-infiltrated surfaces of the teeth showed a uniform shade of color and harmonization with the surrounding enamel. Conclusion: Minimally invasive treatment with resin infiltration technique was effective to treat white spot lesions after bleaching treatment.

Abstract

AbstractIschemic stroke is an uncommon complication of nephrotic syndrome, but must be adressed appropriately, because of the significant health impact. We reported a case of 17-years old male with sudden onset right hemiparesis. The patient was previously diagnosed with steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS), and was treated with pulsed cyclophosphamide. Laboratory examination showed proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia and high low density lipoprotein. Axial head CT scan showed infarction in left basal ganglia and corona radiata. Digital substraction angiography (DSA) confirmed severe stenosis in the left middle cerebral artery. The patient was treated with antiplatelet, along with treatment for SRNS and hypercholestrolemia. SNRS might increase the risk of early occurrence of stroke in young adult, throught acceleration of atherosclerosis and hypercoagulable state.

Abstract

Introduction: Drug-induced gingival overgrowth has been widely reported, especially in hypertensive patients. Amlodipine is a type of hypertension drug that often triggers gingival overgrowth. This case is made worse by poor oral hygiene conditions which cause massive growth and enlargement of the gingiva. Case Report : A 63 year old man came to Hasanuddin University Dental and Oral Hospital with complaints of enlarged gums in the palate area and right cheek. The patient suffers from hypertension and has been regularly taking amlodipine for the past 1 year. Enlarged gums make it difficult for patients to clean their teeth and mouth, resulting in patients experiencing bad breath and difficulty chewing on the side that they complain about due to loose teeth. Enlarged gums are not painful, but often bleed when touched by a toothbrush or food. Conclusion : Treatment of gingival overgrowth by substitution of hypertension drugs, strict oral hygiene control, and surgical intervention through gingivectomy and flap surgery procedures showed satisfactory results after 5 months of follow-up.
