Abstract

Self-care management is a process that does not only develop over time but evolves along with the experience of the type of illness. Successful self-management of diabetes mellitus depends on self-care motivation and self-awareness, specifically designed to control symptoms and avoid complications. This systematic review uses telehealth intervention and smartphone-based applications for diabetes mellitus patients with randomized control trial, qualitative, and cross-sectional studies obtained from six databases. This review included inclusion and exclusion criteria established using population, intervention, comparison, outcomes and study (PICOS) framework, and then data were extracted, reviewed, and assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) tool. Seventeen selected articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria passed the selection through the selection process shown in the flow chart, which all research results show an impact on self-care management. The use of technology especially the applications, is very influential and effective in increasing knowledge and self-care management of diabetes mellitus patients. Besides that, it can also save operational costs in providing interventions for people with diabetes mellitus, but further research is needed to look at the sustainability of structured educational applications on health outcomes.

Abstract

With the coronavirus's rapid spread, most countries have taken preventive measures to limit this spread. Therefore, this paper aims to explore university students' behavioral and psychological variables. To achieve this, the researchers used the descriptive survey approach to the 3,152 Jordanian university students (2,194 female and 1,058 male). We put the Generalized Anxiety Disorder screener GAD-7 and behavioral variables an electronic questionnaire using (Google Forms). To achieve the study's objectives, we used: means, standard deviations, frequencies, percentages, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Chi-square tests with a confidence level of 95% (p<0.05). The study results revealed that (66.34%) don’t do regular physical activity, and there were statistically significant differences between males and females in the practice of physical activities in favor of males. In addition, (64.47%) of the study sample spent (5-10) hours, and (26.6%) spent more than (10) hours on social networking sites. Also, (40.03%) of the study sample suffers from fat accumulation in the waist, pelvis, and thighs. There were also (60.32%) who suffered from sleep disorders. In addition, there are overlapping relationships between the study variables (anxiety level, sleep duration, time spent on social networks, physical activities, and body shape).

Abstract

Thermo-sensitive hydrogel is a drug delivery system in breast cancer therapy, where the influence of environmental temperature changes will affect the characteristics of the polymer base. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of polymers in thermo-sensitive hydrogel bases as drug carriers in breast cancer therapy and compared them with traditional intravenous drug release. This study used a systematic literature review (SLR) using selected reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis guidelines (PRISMA) (P), based on predetermined inclusion criteria, namely English article, thermos-sensitive hydrogel, breast cancer, and original article. An initial database search yielded 618 articles, PubMed (241), Scopus (364), and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) (36). To maintain the quality of the data studied in this article, researchers used inclusion and exclusion criteria, where the exclusion criteria used were non-English languages, review articles, proceedings, communications, video articles, and not open access. After the article screening process, 11 articles were obtained which would then be summarized in data extraction. The conclusion of this study shows that the thermos-sensitive hydrogel drug delivery system has advantages in drug release, where the drug will be released continuously, but also has the disadvantage of uncontrolled drug release.

Abstract

The elderly face a variety of psychological issues, including loneliness, as they reach the end of their human development stage. Some external stimuli are required to overcome loneliness because it affects the life goals of the elderly, which differ from those of younger people. Therapeutic group therapy (TGT) is one of the stimuli provided, and it trains the elderly to adapt to changes in their lives, including their life goals. A quasi-experimental study was used to evaluate the effect of therapeutic group therapy on the sense of purpose in life among lonely elderly people. Following the assessment of loneliness, 86 elderly people experiencing loneliness were recruited for this study and divided into two groups. The intervention group received health education on the development of the elderly as well as therapeutic group therapy. Only health education was provided to the control group. When compared to the control group, the elderly who experienced loneliness in the intervention group had a higher score on purpose of life.

Abstract

Quality of life (QoL) has received more and more attention from scholars and researchers from various fields such as healthcare, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and especially economics after many decades of focusing on income. However, researchers have faced many challenges to gain the proper measurement of QoL due to the contextually based concept. This study employs the primary data conducted in Ho Chi Minh City including 500 observations in 2022, with the application of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to construct a hierarchical model to measure the QoL of the dwellers in Ho Chi Minh City. The empirical model supports the multi-level hierarchical structure of the QoL. The statistically significant contribution of economic, social, and environmental dimensions in the integrated index has been confirmed. The environmental component shares the highest weight, followed by the economic factor. The social aspect contributes the least share in the quality- of-life index. Further analysis of the sub-criteria in each dimension has been made. The findings implicitly suggest the policy concentration on sustainable factors enhancement to raise the QoL. It was a milestone for policy makers to switch the focus from material to non-material factors in the life quality model in Vietnam.

Abstract

The skills of a good nurse manager, the quality and quantity of human resources, and the development of human resources to face changes both the internal and external environments begin with building nurses' commitment to various indicators of human resources development in hospitals that have an impact on customer or patient satisfaction. Quantitative research with an analytical observational approach was conducted in hospitals, with a sample of 136 nurses from the population obtained by probability sampling. The results of the statistical test that training is the human resources development factor that most affect the job satisfaction of nurses in hospitals with an Exp (B) ratio or odds of 1.790, indicating that nurses with more specialized training tend to be 1.790 times more satisfied than nurses with less specialized training, and that this is also true since their Exp B grades are good. This study concludes that training has a big impact on how happy nurses are. As healthcare providers in hospitals, nurses need to optimize their abilities and competencies to raise the standard of nursing care. Nursing directors are essential in building and recruiting, and measuring nurse competencies.

Abstract

Nutritional literacy related to diabetes control can play an important role in glycemic control and the reduction of complications of type 2 diabetes. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between nutritional knowledge and hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c). In this study, nutritional literacy and its components (food portion, nutritional content, healthier food choice, and food label reading skill) were evaluated by a valid and reliable questionnaire designed in Singapore for the evaluation of diabetes-related nutrition knowledge. Furthermore, family income, level of education, type of ethnicity, having a smartphone, as well as access to social media of 64 type 2 diabetic patients were assessed. Pearson’s Correlation coefficient between HbA1c and total nutritional knowledge score was calculated at -0.58, which was significant (p<0.001). Participants scored 48%, 55%, 51%, 52%, and 52% of total score for food portion and sizes, nutrition content of food, healthier food choices and safety, food label reading, and overall, respectively. After controlling for possible confounding, regression model results suggested nutritional knowledge and family income were two potential predictors of HbA1c. Improving nutrition and media literacy may help reduce blood sugar levels and treatment costs.

Abstract

The Haor region in Bangladesh is a relatively more poverty-driven area than other rural areas of Bangladesh. There is very little information about the quality of life of women living in Haor areas. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess Haor women's quality of life and identify predictors. The data from the project titled ‘Livelihood and Socio-economic well-being of Women Living in Haor Basin: A Cross-sectional Survey’ were utilized in this study. Results showed that household income was lower than that reported in the household income and expenditure survey or HIES Survey 2016 for rural people in Bangladesh. Around half of them actively participated in the household economic decision-making process and one- fifth were satisfied with their household and personal financial condition. Only 30% rated their quality of life as good or very good. Contribution to household income, importance and control over household economic decisions, and household savings and loans, were significantly associated with the overall quality of life and its domains. This study’s findings would help to design and implement policies and development program to improve the living standard of women living in Haor Basin and thus help to achieve the relevant targets under specific sustainable development goals.

Abstract

Hemorrhoids are the third most frequent gastrointestinal condition. The symptoms of hemorrhoid illness may include pain, itching, bleeding, soiling, and swelling. This study aimed to examine the impact of treatment on hemorrhoid patients’ quality of life. 36 patients with hemorrhoids between 18 to 60 took part in this longitudinal study before and after treatment between April and August 2022. Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) before and after treatment is 0.037<0.051. Lower quality of life in terms of essential health is indicated by the health scale modified for hemorrhoid disease symptom score (HSHD) since the score before treatment is lower than the score after treatment. The p-value thus shows a significant impact both before and after treatment. The research on hemorrhoid patients showed that the patient’s quality of life increased after treatment.

Abstract

Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) experienced diabetes burnout, which influences the patient’s daily living. Some treatments had been introduced to reduce this burnout, but self-instructional training method remained unknown for its effectiveness. This study was aimed to analyse the influence of self-instructional training toward diabetes burnout syndrome. This research was a quasy-experimental study involving patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. About 72 respondents were chosen using purposive sampling. This study divided the respondents into control and treatment groups. The treatment group gained self-instructional training in 4 meetings. Data was obtained from pre-test and post-test using diabetes burnout scale questionnaire and analysed with Paired T-test and Independent T-test. Study results showed that the treatment group had a significant decrease in diabetes burnout (severe to low level) (p=0.000). Diabetes burnout score among treatment group was lower compared to the control group (24.69±4.73; 19.19±4.24). In the control group, there was no significant statistical reduction about diabetes burnout (p=0.110). Besides, this study presented the difference diabetes burnout syndrome between treatment and control group (p=0.000; p<0.05). This study showed self-instructional training could minimize the occurrence of diabetes burnout syndrome among T2DM patients. This method has been proven to influence patient’s behaviour positively.
