Abstract

Indonesia is a rich country. Indonesia not only has abundant natural wealth but also the richness of the diversity of tribes, cultures, nations, and languages adds to the wealth of Indonesia. These differences create unique diversity. Therefore, every nation has it's their customs and culture. In its implementation and use, it follows the prevailing traditions in the community where they live. Traditional clothing used by each region has its characteristics, one of which is indicated by traditional jewelry that carries its meaning and value. As for Minangkabau society, a woman when holding a wedding party (baralek) is given the title anak daro. At a wedding party, a anak daro wears traditional clothes with suntiang as traditional jewelry. Suntiang holds many philosophical values in it and symbolizes the greatness of the daro child. This paper aims to explain the meaning and philosophical value of suntiang for a woman who is getting married in Minangkabau. This research was conducted with a qualitative method that produces descriptive data and data collection techniques using library research techniques. The results of this study are known to the meaning and philosophical values contained in the Minangkabau suntiang.

Abstract

The discourse on the cosmology or universe has recently received special attention in intellectual circles. This attention arises because the universe is understood by humans differently. The wisdom of Lamaholots, means that the universe is the manifestation of God's self or is referred to as Lera-Wulan Tana- Ekan. In Philosophy, especially for German Idealism, the universe is defined as the place of self-alienation of the Absolute Spirit. From these two different perspectives, researchers want to analyze the meaning of the universe further. This research uses a comparative study method to perform a two-way analysis. The goal is that wisdom and philosophy can act as formal and material objects. His findings are that the universe cannot be denied having different meanings. The universe can be interpreted as a manifestation of the Divine or the Absolute Spirit or vice versa. In addition to these differences, there are also one or two similarities that can be accepted rationally and accounted for.

Abstract

Dieng Kulon is a potential tourism village that attracts tourists. In addition to their tourism potential, the Dieng people have traditions and culture: ruwatan, ganenan, and pawon. Ruwatan is a Dieng “rambut gimbal” shaving procession. Children in Dieng who have dreadlocks are the chosen children and the incarnation of Kyai Kolodete (Dieng's ancestor). This Ruwatan, which was later managed by the Pokdarwis Dieng Pandawa, became an annual cultural festival called the Dieng Culture Festival. The results of this study are that the Dieng Culture Festival provides benefits to the local community because the tourism industry in Dieng Kulon is starting to be managed properly. The management uses the community based tourism method brought by Pokdarwis Dieng Pandawa and is implemented in the development of Dieng tourism. The CBT method is considered to have been successfully implemented, although not completely because some people are still refused to participate in Dieng tourism. Stakeholders consisting of several actors collaborate and participate. In CBT there are dimensions that need to be produced, namely the economic dimension, social dimension, political dimension, cultural dimension, and environmental dimension. These five dimensions can be seen through the process and method of the Dieng Pandawa Pokdarwis implementing CBT in Dieng tourism. Ganenan and pawon are a local community tradition to warm the body and a way for the community to strengthen interaction. From this, how the culture and traditions in the community are managed by the Pokdarwis Dieng Pandawa with the concept of CBT so that community participation is the main point. Community participation is the main gate of tourism development with the CBT concept.

Abstract

Abstract

A number of studies have examined elderly care, yet most narratives tend to position older people as dependent on their families, particularly their children. Such perspectives often overlook the complexity of lived experiences, as well as the challenges and adaptive strategies that the elderly develop in navigating vulnerability. This paper therefore addresses three main questions: how do the elderly transform and endure conditions of vulnerability? To what extent can they rely on their children? And what happens when such dependency is no longer possible? This research explores the experiences of elderly people in Gotong Village, Central Java, focusing on the dynamics of care and life transitions. The analysis draws on Viktor Turner’s concept of liminality, which outlines three phases of transition: preliminal, liminal, and postliminal. The findings show that the preliminal phase is marked by a disengagement from previous social roles and relationships. During the liminal phase, the elderly experience ambiguity, including unclear social roles, ongoing negotiation between formal and informal care, and uncertainty about the future. This phase highlights how the elderly are not only vulnerable but also actively navigating and making sense of their changing circumstances. In the postliminal phase, they enter a stage of reaggregation under new conditions, often shaped by cultural values, particularly notions of self-acceptance. Overall, the experiences of the elderly should not be understood solely in terms of dependency, but as dynamic processes involving negotiation, adaptation, and meaning-making in the face of vulnerability. Abstract

The popularity of the Berkain Bersama fashion trend in society, pioneered by Swara Gembira, brings its own challenges for the commodification of batik. Berkain is the use of Indonesian textiles such as batik in modern fashion creations. This study will discuss the KCBI Cabang Bandung as a berkain community that existed before the existence of the trend. This study aims to observe the practice of berkain and the community's response to various forms of commodification as the Berkain Bersama trend develops. Using a qualitative case study approach, data was obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory and digital observation, and documentation. The results show that the community's berkain practice is to use batik as a bottom instead of pants or skirts by adhering to three traditional batik cloth rules that have existed for generations. The rules function as a defense strategy to maintain the originality of batik from commodification. The form of batik commodification in the Berkain Bersama trend is seen in the use of printed batik, which is rejected by the community. Similarly, another form of commodification, namely the modification of batik cloth into four kalcer-style models, was not adopted due to age considerations and a firm commitment to the rules. Through commodification, it can be analyzed that batik, once sacred, is now used as a fashion item that follows the development of modern market trends and tastes. Abstract

Abstract

Kata Kunci: kerja panggilan, buruh kopi, kerentanan kerja, relasi gender, nrimo ing pandum ABSTRACT Exploring the Vulnerability of Coffee Workers within an On-Call Labor System at Kopi Kutjur. This study examines on-call labor and workers’ vulnerability in a small-scale household coffee enterprise, Kopi Kutjur, located in Dusun Kucur, Sumberrejo Village. Situated on the slopes of Mount Arjuna, Kopi Kutjur has developed as a local coffee production hub that involves both male and female workers within a flexible labor system shaped by harvest seasons and market demand. Using a qualitative approach through participant observation and in-depth interviews, this research explores how on-call work is practiced in everyday life and how vulnerability is understood by both workers and the business owner. The findings show that labor flexibility allows workers to adjust their working rhythms to domestic responsibilities and other forms of livelihood. At the same time, it produces income uncertainty and relations of dependency on the owner. Such vulnerability is not always perceived as a structural problem, but is often accepted as part of everyday life through the cultural value of nrimo. Nevertheless, workers still engage in small, informal forms of negotiation in their daily practices. This study highlights how flexible labor, gender relations, and vulnerability are intertwined in the everyday production of coffee in a rural setting. Keywords: on-call labor, coffee workers, labor vulnerability, gender relations, nrimo ing pandum

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Puncak Nirwana, pemakaman elite, transformasi ruang, infrastruktur, leisure space Abstract In Indonesia, cemeteries are commonly understood as sacred spaces that are quiet, simple, and visited only during specific ritual moments. However, the presence of Puncak Nirwana, an elite cemetery complex located in Ketuwon Hamlet, Sumberrejo Village, Pasuruan, presents a contrasting phenomenon. This cemetery is developed with luxurious and well-managed infrastructure in the middle of an agrarian rural environment and is actively used by local residents as a social and recreational space. This study examines how luxurious infrastructure transforms the meaning of cemeteries from sacred places into leisure spaces. This research uses ethnographic methods, including field observations and in-depth interviews with village residents, cemetery workers, and the management of Puncak Nirwana. The findings show that the transformation of spatial meaning occurs through spatial experiences shaped by the design, aesthetics, and management of cemetery infrastructure. Puncak Nirwana is produced as a meaningful space through the interplay of Chinese cultural values, class representation, and social relations between the foundation and village residents. Despite the presence of visual and ownership-based inequalities, the cemetery is pragmatically accepted by local residents due to the economic benefits and social functions it provides. This study highlights the important role of infrastructure in shaping experience, social relations, and the transformation of spatial meanings in rural contexts. Keywords: Puncak Nirwana, elite cemetery, spatial transformation, infrastructure, leisure space

Abstract

Kata kunci: Pawang hujan, legitimasi sosial, akulturasi, keagamaan Abstract The practice of rain shamans (pawang hujan) persists in rural communities despite the ongoing processes of modernization and Islamization. Rain shamans are understood as social figures who mediate the relationship between humans and nature, and play a role in ensuring the smooth running of important events. This study examines the social legitimacy of rain shamans by highlighting how their practices are interpreted, negotiated, and maintained within the socio-religious landscape. The research employs a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods, including participant observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and field notes. The findings indicate that the practice of rain shamans continues to exist because it functions symbolically, practically, and socially. Moreover, rain shamans have undergone acculturation with Islamic teachings through prayer, Quranic recitations, and fasting. Their social legitimacy arises from spiritual experiences, effective ritual practices, recognition from the community, and symbolic exchanges between service providers and users. Rain shamans are not merely practitioners of magic but social actors who strengthen communal solidarity and preserve local cultural values. Keywords: Rain shamans, social legitimacy, acculturation, religion
